Construction Company Advertising

Updated October 2026 · Written and maintained by the Progression Agency strategy team

Construction company advertising is paid media that puts a builder in front of the owners, developers, facility managers and homeowners choosing a firm right now, through search ads, Performance Max, Local Services Ads, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Meta, YouTube and retargeting. We plan, build and run those campaigns for commercial general contractors, construction managers, design-builders and residential builders, and we judge them by bids and contracts won. Send us your sectors and service area and we will return a free proposal with a written scope. Progression Agency is based in New York City and works with clients across the United States and worldwide.

The short answerOur construction company advertising runs Google Search by sector and service, Performance Max once it can learn from won bids, Local Services Ads where your category and area qualify, Microsoft Advertising, LinkedIn by job title and company, Meta for residential work and hiring, and YouTube with retargeting. Each ad lands on a page built for that sector, with tracked calls and forms. Leads, bids and wins are imported back into the platforms so bidding chases contracts, not clicks. First qualified inquiries usually arrive within the first month; the program settles by day 90. Management is quoted after a written scope, and spend is paid directly to the platforms.

Market cost figures are LocaliQ’s 2026 search advertising benchmarks. Platform rules are read from Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn and Meta documentation named in each section. Website prices are Progression’s published fixed prices; ad management is quoted from a written scope.

What construction company advertising covers at Progression

Our advertising for construction companies covers every paid channel that can reach a buyer of construction work, plus the landing pages, tracking and reporting that prove which ad produced which contract. We run it as one account plan, not a set of separate media buys.

Search: Intent at the moment of need. Campaigns by sector and service.
PMax: Performance Max, fed real wins. Imported bids train it.
LSA: Google's lead-based format. Checked by category and area.
LinkedIn: Decision makers by role. Owners, developers, architects.
Meta: Homeowners and crews. Residential builds and hiring.
YouTube: Project walkthroughs. Then retargeting to the shortlist.

Which construction firms do we run campaigns for?

Commercial general contractors bidding private and public work, construction managers working at risk or as advisers, design-build firms selling a single contract for design and construction, and residential builders of custom homes, additions and major remodels. Specialty trades such as roofing, HVAC and electrical are covered on our contractor advertising agency page.

One plan across Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn and Meta

Owners do not keep to one platform, so the budget should not either. A developer may first see your firm in a LinkedIn feed, search your name a week later on Microsoft Bing at the office, then click a Google ad from a phone at the site visit. One plan, one set of conversion stages and one report make those touches add up instead of competing for credit.

Your accounts, your data

Every ad account, pixel, tag and audience list is created in your firm’s name or moved into it. We work as users on your accounts. If we part ways, the history, the audiences and the conversion data stay with you.

Who clicks on general contractor ads, and where do they look?

Five kinds of people respond to general contractor ads, and each one looks somewhere different. Matching the channel and the landing page to the buyer is most of the work.

Developers and private owners

Developers buy from firms that have finished the same building type nearby. Their searches name the product, such as a medical office building, a cold storage warehouse or a self-storage facility, together with a city or region. An ad that repeats the building type in its headline and lands on that sector’s projects earns the click.

Facility managers and capital projects staff

Hospitals, universities, manufacturers and property managers run steady renovation and expansion work. Their staff search by scope: interior renovation, roof replacement on a commercial building, laboratory fit-out, emergency structural repair. Service campaigns aimed at those scopes reach them, and LinkedIn reaches them again by title and employer.

Architects and owner’s representatives

Advisers rarely search for a builder in the moment; they recognize names. Video, LinkedIn posts promoted to architecture and real estate firms, and retargeting to people who read your preconstruction page keep the name familiar when a client asks who should bid.

Homeowners, for residential builders

Homeowners search with a town name and scroll past builders in their feeds. Search, Local Services Ads where the category is open in your area and Meta lead ads all work here, as long as each campaign sends people to a page about the home or project type they asked about.

Search is the core of most construction programs because the searcher is already describing a project. We build campaigns around the sectors and services you want more of, never around the word construction alone.

Campaign structure by sector, service and place

A typical account separates sectors (health care, industrial, education, multifamily), services (tenant fit-out, renovation, design-build, preconstruction) and geography (the metros where you have crews and licenses). Each campaign gets its own budget, so a strong month in industrial work cannot starve the health care campaign that feeds your best margins.

Match types and the search terms report

We start with phrase and exact match on proven themes and open broad match only once conversion tracking reflects real bids. The search terms report is read every week in the first two months. Every irrelevant query becomes a negative, and every useful one becomes its own keyword.

Ad copy that states facts owners care about

Building types completed, the delivery methods offered, the states licensed in, and a plain offer such as a preconstruction call or a capability meeting. Specific facts filter out the wrong clicks before you pay for them. License and bonding wording is checked against each state’s advertising rules before an ad runs.

Should a builder bid on its own name?

Usually yes, at a small budget. When a selection committee searches your firm, a brand ad lets you pick the landing page and the message, and it keeps a competitor or a lead marketplace from sitting above you. The cost is low because the ad is so relevant to the search.

How do you keep construction company ads away from job seekers and DIY searchers?

With negative keywords set before launch and pruned every week. Construction terms attract people looking for jobs, homework help, materials and how-to videos, and those clicks can take a large share of an untended budget.

Negative keyword themes for a construction ad account
Search theme to excludeWhat the searcher wantsExample negative terms
Job seekersA job, an apprenticeship or a wage figurejobs, hiring, careers, salary, apprenticeship, resume
DIY searchersTo do the work themselveshow to, DIY, yourself, tutorial, step by step
Students and researchersCoursework, definitions, exam helpcourse, degree, exam, definition, textbook
Materials and equipment buyersProducts, rentals and supply pricesrental, supplies, lumber, equipment, wholesale
Software and template seekersEstimating tools and contract formssoftware, template, app, spreadsheet, form
Work outside your scopeSmall repairs or trades you do not offerrepair, handyman, fix, plus any trade you sub out

Negatives do not cover close variants

Google’s negative keyword guidance is explicit that negative keywords do not match close variants or other expansions, so synonyms and the singular and plural forms need to be added by hand. A negative for job will not block jobs. We build shared lists with every form spelled out and apply them across campaigns.

When not to block hiring terms

If you are recruiting, the same job searches are worth paying for, but in their own campaign that sends people to the careers page. Keeping recruiting separate stops hiring clicks from muddying the cost per qualified project inquiry.

The weekly search term review

For the first eight weeks we read every search term that spent money, then move to a fortnightly review once the lists stabilize. Most of the waste in construction accounts we audit comes from terms nobody looked at.

Performance Max for builders: when it helps and when it hurts

Performance Max helps once it can learn from qualified leads and won bids; before that, it tends to find cheap form fills. We switch it on after offline conversion imports are flowing.

What Performance Max reaches

Google describes Performance Max as a goal-based campaign type that reaches all Google Ads inventory, including YouTube, Display, Search, Discover, Gmail and Maps, from a single campaign. That reach is useful for a builder with strong project photos and video, and risky for one whose only signal is a contact form.

Asset sets per sector

We split creative by sector so the hospital project photos never appear in an ad aimed at warehouse developers. Each sector set gets its own headlines, images, video and landing page, and its results are read separately.

Feeding it the right signal

The conversion that Performance Max optimizes toward is the qualified lead or the won bid, imported from your CRM, with contract value where you are willing to share it. Raw form submissions stay as secondary conversions so they are counted but not chased.

Local Services Ads: which construction categories qualify?

Google’s Local Services Ads list includes general contractor and several building trades, but availability depends on the category and the area. We check eligibility for each office before building a profile.

Google’s Local Services Ads getting-started page says the format is available only for certain service categories and asks businesses to check eligibility for their area. The construction and building categories on that list include:

  • General contractor
  • Kitchen remodeling
  • Bathroom remodeling
  • Carpenters
  • Roofers
  • Foundations services
  • Siding services
  • Flooring services
  • Countertop services
  • Fencing services
  • Pool contractor
  • Solar energy contractor
  • Window repair services
  • Painter
  • Electricians
  • Plumbers
  • HVAC (heating or air conditioning)
  • Home insulation (California and Florida only)

How Local Services Ads charge

The same Google page says advertisers pay only for leads related to their business and the services they offer, and pay when a customer gets in touch from the ad. The Google Verified badge marks a business that has passed Google’s screening, and businesses still completing it appear below verified providers.

Where LSA fits a builder

Local Services Ads suit residential builders, remodelers and small general contractors who take homeowner calls. Large commercial firms rarely get bid invitations through them, so for those firms we keep LSA small or leave it out and put the budget into sector search and LinkedIn.

Answering every LSA lead

Leads arrive as calls and messages, and an unanswered call is a paid lead lost. We set up call recording, a response routine and a weekly review of leads that fall outside your services, and we report LSA alongside search so the two are judged on the same terms.

LinkedIn and Microsoft ads to reach owners, developers, facility managers and architects

LinkedIn and Microsoft let a builder aim ads at the people who award work by their role and employer. That makes them the strongest paid channels for commercial firms whose buyers rarely search for a contractor.

LinkedIn targeting by job title and company

LinkedIn’s targeting options include job title, job function, seniority, company name, company industry and company size, with a location required on every campaign. We build audiences such as directors of facilities at hospital systems in your states, development managers at named real estate firms, and principals at architecture practices you want to work with.

Account lists for owners you want to win

Most commercial GCs can name the fifty owners they would most like to build for. We load those organizations as a company list and run capability content to their decision makers, then retarget anyone from those companies who visits your site.

What to offer on LinkedIn

A capability statement for one sector, a short case study of a comparable project, a preconstruction checklist or an invitation to a site tour. A direct request for a bid rarely works on a social feed; a useful document that starts a conversation does.

Microsoft Advertising with LinkedIn profile targeting

Microsoft Advertising says advertisers can target people by LinkedIn profile information, including company, industry and job function. For a builder that means a search ad on Bing can be aimed at people who work at a property developer or a health system. Our Microsoft Ads management runs it next to Google search, and our LinkedIn ads team handles the campaigns on LinkedIn itself.

Facebook ads for general contractors: residential work and recruiting

Meta works for builders in two places: homeowners planning a build or remodel, and tradespeople looking for their next job. It is a weak channel for reaching commercial owners, so we use it only where it fits.

Residential builders and remodelers

Homeowners respond to finished-home photos, short walkthrough videos and a clear next step such as a design consultation. Lead forms with two or three qualifying questions about budget band, lot status and timing cut the number of casual inquiries your estimators have to call back. Our Facebook ads team builds and tests the creative.

Recruiting crews, superintendents and project managers

Labor is the limit for many builders. Hiring campaigns on Meta reach tradespeople in the counties where you have work, with the pay, schedule and project types they care about. Results are measured as applications and hires, kept apart from project leads.

Special ad categories for housing and employment

Meta requires some campaigns to run under a special ad category, including housing and employment. Those categories remove several targeting options, which changes how a builder’s hiring ads and home listing ads are planned:

How Meta’s housing and employment categories change targeting
SettingStandard Meta campaignHousing or employment category
AgeChosen by the advertiserGenerally fixed at 18 through 65+
GenderCan be chosenCannot be chosen
LocationZIP codes and small areas availableNo ZIP code targeting, at least a 15 mile radius, no location exclusions

Lookalike audiencesAvailableUnavailable

Writing campaigns that pass review

We decide the category before the creative is made, write copy that describes the role or the home rather than the ideal applicant or buyer, and let the landing page do the qualifying. That keeps campaigns live and inside the rules.

YouTube and retargeting through a long selection

Commercial selections run for months, so the firm that stays visible during that time has an edge. YouTube and retargeting do that job cheaply.

Project walkthrough video

A two-minute walkthrough of a finished building, narrated by the project manager, does more for an owner than any banner. We cut it into short versions for YouTube and LinkedIn and show them to people who visited the sector page. Our YouTube ads team handles placement and targeting.

Retargeting by page, not by site

Someone who read your health care projects should see health care work next, not a generic logo ad. We build audiences by the pages people read and cap how often they see an ad. Our retargeting agency page covers the mechanics.

Construction advertising off the screen

Jobsite signs, trade press, association directories and event sponsorships still matter. We give each one its own short web address or tracked number, so the offline spend shows up in the same report as the online campaigns.

Landing pages for each service and sector

An ad is only as good as the page it opens. Every campaign gets a page about the exact work in the ad, with proof next to a short form and a tracked phone number.

Sector: One page per market. Health care, industrial, retail.
Service: One page per offer. Fit-out, renovation, design-build.
Proof: Projects beside the form. Size, value range, year.
Form: Short and qualifying. Type, location, timing.
Phone: Tracked and answered. Same day, every time.
Speed: Fast on a phone. Compressed project photos.

Forms that qualify without scaring people off

Ask for project type, location, approximate size and timing, and leave budget optional. Those four answers let an estimator decide in a minute whether to call back today, and they become the CRM fields that the reports use.

What landing pages cost to build

From our fixed-price website design and development table: a single landing page from $1,400, a brochure site of 5 to 8 pages from $9,500, and a business site of 10 to 16 pages from $18,000. Larger builds and sites for construction firms are covered by our construction website design team, and conversion testing by our landing page design service.

Call tracking, form tracking and offline conversion import tied to bids won

We record every call and form with its source, follow it through your CRM to the bid and the contract, and send those outcomes back to the ad platforms. That loop is what separates construction PPC that pays from construction PPC that just spends.

GCLID: Click ID saved. Stored with every form lead.
Calls: Tracked numbers. Recorded and tagged by project type.
CRM: Stages that matter. Qualified, invited, bid, won.
Value: Contract value. Sent back with each win.
Negatives: Weekly search term review. Job seekers, DIY, students.
Report: Monthly, by source. Spend to bids to contracts.
Process map in six steps: the click carries an ID, the lead lands in the CRM, estimating qualifies it, the bid and outcome are recorded, stages go back to the ad platforms, budget follows contracts.Process map in six steps: the click carries an ID, the lead lands in the CRM, estimating qualifies it, the bid and outcome are recorded, stages go back to the ad platforms, budget follows contracts.
Editorial process map, not measured data.

Saving the click ID with every lead

Google’s offline conversion import guide explains that Google Ads issues a unique Google Click ID (GCLID) for each click, which is saved with the lead and sent back with the conversion details when the sale happens offline. The same page describes enhanced conversions for leads as an upgraded version of offline conversion import, which we set up for new accounts.

The CRM stages we import

Qualified inquiry, invited to bid or proposal requested, bid submitted, and contract won with its value. Four stages are enough for the platforms to tell a tire-kicker from a real project, and few enough that your estimators will keep them up to date.

Call tracking that estimators will use

Each campaign and each offline placement gets its own number. Calls are recorded where your state allows it with the right notice, tagged by project type, and matched to the CRM record, so a phone inquiry that becomes a contract is credited to the ad that produced it. Our marketing analytics team builds the reporting.

What does construction PPC cost, and how is the budget set?

In construction company advertising, spend depends on your sectors, area and how many bids you need; management is quoted after a written scope. Spend is paid directly to Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn and Meta, never marked up by us.

Bar chart: average cost per lead of 90.92 dollars for home and home improvement advertisers and 75.19 dollars for industrial and commercial advertisers in LocaliQ's 2026 search advertising benchmarks.Bar chart: average cost per lead of 90.92 dollars for home and home improvement advertisers and 75.19 dollars for industrial and commercial advertisers in LocaliQ's 2026 search advertising benchmarks.
Market averages across many advertisers; your own figures depend on sector, area and tracking.

For context, these are published US price bands (market figures, not a Progression rate card) from LocaliQ’s 2026 search advertising benchmarks: home and home improvement advertisers averaged $8.33 a click and $90.92 a lead, and industrial and commercial advertisers averaged $5.87 a click and $75.19 a lead. A qualified commercial inquiry usually costs more than an average lead, because many leads are not a fit.

General contractor PPC budgets, worked backwards

Start with the contracts you want, divide by your win rate to get bids, divide bids by the share of inquiries that become bids, then multiply the inquiries needed by the cost per qualified inquiry in your market. The answer is the spend the goal requires. If it is higher than you want to pay, narrow the sectors rather than spreading a thin budget across all of them.

How management is priced

Ad management is quoted after a written scope that lists the platforms, campaigns, landing pages and reporting involved. The proposal is free and states the monthly spend we recommend for each platform alongside the management quote.

Search and AI visibility alongside ads

Paid and organic work best together: ads produce inquiries now, and organic pages lower the cost of each one over time. Our SEO and AEO retainers for construction firms are $2,500 to $10,000 a month, described on our general contractor SEO and AEO page.

The first 90 days of general contractor advertising

The first two weeks build tracking and negatives, the next two launch search, the second month prunes and tests, and the third month imports outcomes and moves budget. You get a written report at day 30, 60 and 90.

Taking over an existing account

If you already run ads, we audit before changing anything: conversion settings, search terms, location settings, negatives and landing pages. Most of the early savings come from fixing what is already there. Our Google Ads audit page lists what we check.

What to expect from month four

By then the platforms have a few months of outcome data. Budget moves toward the sectors producing bids, weak campaigns are cut, and new sector campaigns launch only where you have projects to show.

How builders ask AI assistants about advertising, and what gets cited

Owners of construction firms now ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google AI Overviews how to advertise, what ads should cost and who to hire for construction company advertising. The answers lean on pages that state methods, prices and rules plainly.

The questions builders ask

Typical prompts read like a budget meeting: how much a general contractor should spend on Google Ads, whether LinkedIn works for commercial construction, which agencies run ads for design-build firms, and how to stop paying for job seeker clicks.

What assistants tend to cite

Platform help pages for rules and formats, published benchmark reports for costs, and agency pages that give a specific method, a clear pricing statement and a process with steps. Vague service pages with no figures or steps are rarely quoted.

Your own firm in AI answers

When an owner asks an assistant for builders, the answer draws on your project and capability pages, not your ads. That work sits in our general contractor SEO program and our AEO for construction companies service, and AEO and paid search together explains how the two share one set of facts.

How to choose a construction advertising agency

Which two sectors would you launch first, and why? What would you cut from our current account? How will we see bids and contracts by campaign? Who on your team reads our search terms each week?

Warning signs

Be cautious with any of these:

  • Reports that stop at clicks, impressions or cost per lead
  • Spend billed through the agency with no access to the platform invoices
  • Every ad pointing at the homepage
  • Broad match on day one with no negative lists
  • Contracts that keep the ad accounts after you leave

Frequently asked questions

What is construction company advertising?
It is paid promotion of a construction firm on search engines, social platforms and video, aimed at the owners, developers, facility managers and homeowners who hire builders. Done well, it sends each audience to a page about the exact work it is looking for and measures results in bids and contracts, not clicks or impressions.
What is the best way to advertise a commercial general contractor?
Combine search campaigns built around your sectors and services with LinkedIn ads aimed at owners, developers and facility managers by job title and company, then retarget people who read your project pages. Track every inquiry to a bid and a contract so the budget follows the work you win.
Is general contractor PPC worth it for commercial work?
It is when the campaigns target specific building types and scopes, the ads land on sector pages with comparable projects, and won bids are imported back into the platforms. It rarely pays on broad terms such as construction company near me, which attract homeowners, job seekers and small repair requests.
Which construction businesses can use Google Local Services Ads?
Google’s Local Services Ads list includes general contractor, kitchen and bathroom remodeling, roofers, carpenters, foundations, siding, flooring, pool and solar contractors and several other building categories. Availability depends on the category and the area, so each office’s eligibility has to be checked before setup.
How much does a click cost in construction PPC?
Costs vary by sector and city. LocaliQ’s 2026 search advertising benchmarks report average clicks of $8.33 for home and home improvement advertisers and $5.87 for industrial and commercial advertisers. Those are market figures, not a Progression rate card, and competitive metros or high-value services often cost more.
How do you work out an ad budget for a general contracting firm?
Work backwards from the contracts you want: divide by your win rate to get bids, divide by the share of inquiries that turn into bids, and multiply by the cost per qualified inquiry in your market. If the result is more than you want to spend, narrow the sectors instead of thinning the budget.
How does Progression price ad management for builders?
Ad management is quoted after a written scope that lists the platforms, campaigns, landing pages and reporting involved. Ad spend is paid directly to Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn and Meta on your own accounts, and the free proposal states the spend we recommend for each platform.
What search terms should builders block in Google Ads?
Start with job seeker terms such as jobs, hiring, careers and salary; DIY terms such as how to and tutorial; student terms such as course and exam; materials and rental terms; and any trade or repair you do not offer. Add singular, plural and synonym forms, because Google does not apply negatives to close variants.
Should a builder use Performance Max?
Yes, once qualified leads and won bids are being imported from the CRM, so the campaign learns what a real project looks like. Before that, it tends to chase cheap form fills. We split creative by sector and keep raw form submissions as secondary conversions.
Can LinkedIn ads reach developers and facility managers?
Yes. LinkedIn lets campaigns target by job title, job function, seniority, company name, industry and company size, with a location on every campaign. That makes it possible to show a capability message to facility directors at hospital systems or development managers at named real estate firms.
Does Microsoft Advertising let a builder target by LinkedIn profile?
Microsoft says advertisers can target people based on LinkedIn profile information, including company, industry and job function. For a commercial builder that means raising bids on Bing searches made by people who work at developers, health systems or other target owners.
Do Facebook ads for general contractors work?
For residential builders and remodelers, yes: homeowners respond to finished-home photos, walkthrough videos and a consultation offer. For commercial general contractors, Meta works best for recruiting tradespeople and project managers rather than for reaching owners.
Why are some Meta targeting options missing on housing or hiring ads?
Meta requires housing and employment ads to run under a special ad category. In those campaigns age is generally fixed at 18 through 65+, gender cannot be chosen, ZIP code targeting is unavailable, locations need at least a 15 mile radius, and lookalike audiences cannot be used.
What is offline conversion import, and why does it matter to builders?
It sends outcomes that happen after the click, such as a bid invitation or a signed contract, back to the ad platform. Google Ads matches them by the click ID saved with the lead. Without it, bidding optimizes toward any form fill; with it, bidding favors the searches that end in contracts.
How soon do construction company ads produce bid invitations?
Search and Local Services Ads usually produce qualified inquiries within the first month. Bid invitations from commercial owners take longer because selections run for months, so we judge the program at day 90 and again at six months, by source.
Do construction ads need separate landing pages?
Yes. An ad for laboratory fit-outs should open a page about laboratory fit-outs, with comparable projects, the people who ran them and a short form. Sending every ad to the homepage is one of the most common reasons construction campaigns waste money.
Should a construction firm run ads on its own brand name?
Usually, at a small budget. When an owner or selection committee searches your firm, a brand ad controls the landing page and the message and keeps lead marketplaces or competitors from appearing first. The cost per click tends to be low.
Is YouTube advertising useful for a construction company?
It is useful for staying visible during long selections. Short walkthroughs of finished buildings, narrated by the project manager, can be shown to people who already visited a sector page, so owners and architects keep seeing your work while they decide.
Can paid ads help a builder hire tradespeople?
Yes. Recruiting campaigns on Meta and search reach tradespeople, superintendents and project managers in the counties where you have work. They run under Meta’s employment rules, send people to a careers page and are reported as applications and hires, separate from project leads.
Does a builder keep its ad accounts and data when an engagement ends?
You do. Every Google Ads, Microsoft, LinkedIn and Meta account, tag and audience is created in your firm’s name or moved into it, and we work as users. If the engagement ends, the history, audiences and conversion data stay with you.
Do you run construction advertising for firms outside New York?
Yes. Progression Agency is based in New York City and runs campaigns for general contractors, construction managers, design-builders and residential builders across all 50 states and worldwide, with scheduled calls and shared reporting.
Should a construction company do SEO or ads first?
Ads first when you need inquiries this quarter, SEO and AEO together when you want the cost of each inquiry to fall over time. Most builders run both: ads fill the pipeline while project and sector pages build organic rankings and AI answer mentions.
