The short answerWe provide Laravel application development services as a project or retainer team: discovery and architecture, custom Laravel development with tests, API and admin work, upgrades and maintenance. Typical first releases take two to six months depending on scope, and published US price bands for comparable web applications run from $25,000 for a focused tool to $150,000 or more for a portal or platform. Progress is measured in shipped, tested features and a production app that stays inside the framework’s support window. You own the code, the cloud accounts and the documentation from day one.

Laravel, PHP, Composer and OWASP details are as published in their documentation in October 2026 and change with each release. Cost figures are published US price bands (market figures, not a Progression rate card) except the brochure site price, which is Progression’s own; every quote follows a written scope.

What is Laravel used for?

Laravel is used to build database-driven web applications: customer portals, SaaS products, internal tools, APIs, marketplaces and admin panels. It handles routing, validation, authentication, queues, caching, file storage and email so teams spend their time on the product rather than the plumbing.

Is Laravel frontend or backend?

Laravel is a backend framework. Its frontend documentation describes it as a backend framework that provides features such as routing, validation, caching, queues and file storage, and then offers two ways to build the interface: PHP with Blade and Livewire, or React, Svelte or Vue connected through Inertia. That flexibility is one reason it suits full-stack products.

What are Laravel applications, in plain terms?

A Laravel application is a PHP codebase organized by the framework’s conventions: routes that map URLs to controllers, Eloquent models that map database tables to classes, jobs that run in the background and tests that prove each feature works. Laravel web applications run on standard Linux servers or managed platforms.

Who uses Laravel?

Product companies building SaaS, agencies delivering client platforms, ecommerce and marketplace operators, schools, healthcare and financial services teams building portals, and in-house IT teams replacing legacy PHP. It is common wherever a small team has to ship a large, data-heavy application.

Choosing between frameworks in general is covered on our web development frameworks guide; this page is about building with Laravel.

Our Laravel development services

Our Laravel development services run from a first discovery workshop to years of maintenance. Most clients start with one of the six kinds of product below and extend it later.

Portal: Customer and partner portals. Accounts, documents, billing.
SaaS: Multi-tenant SaaS products. Plans, teams, subscriptions.
API: APIs and mobile backends. Tokens, versioning, webhooks.
Ops: Internal tools and CRMs. Replacing spreadsheets.
Market: Marketplaces. Buyers, sellers, payouts.
Admin: Admin panels and dashboards. Roles, audit logs, reports.

Laravel web application development, end to end

Our Laravel web application development services cover product discovery, interface design, database design, backend and frontend code, tests, deployment and the runbook your team needs afterward. Design work is done with our UI and UX design team so the application is usable, not just functional.

Laravel web development services for an existing product

Not every engagement is a new build. We add features to live applications, untangle slow pages and queries, add test coverage where there is none and take over support from a previous Laravel agency or departing developer.

A Laravel web development company for agencies

Design and marketing agencies bring us in as their Laravel development agency, the build partner for client platforms. We work under your project management, or white-label, and hand over code, credentials and documentation in the client’s name.

Laravel is popular because it gives a small team a large, well-documented set of tools that fit together, so common features take days rather than weeks. Its conventions also make an unfamiliar codebase easier for the next developer to read.

First-party packages for the hard parts

Authentication, subscription billing, search, queues, WebSockets and feature flags all have official packages maintained alongside the framework. Using them instead of homemade code means fewer security bugs and easier upgrades.

Predictable releases

Laravel’s release notes say major framework releases come every year, around the first quarter, while minor and patch releases can arrive weekly and should never contain breaking changes. That rhythm lets owners budget upgrades in advance.

Testing is part of the framework

The testing documentation says support for testing with Pest and PHPUnit is included out of the box and a phpunit.xml file is already set up. A Laravel agency that skips tests is choosing to.

Where Laravel is weaker

It is a PHP framework, so it does not share code with a Python data team or a JavaScript-only stack, and long-running real-time workloads need extra components such as Octane or Reverb. We say so in discovery when another stack fits better.

Laravel vs Django, Rails, NestJS and Symfony

Pick the framework your team can staff and maintain for years. Laravel, Django and Rails are all mature, batteries-included frameworks; the deciding factors are usually language, existing code and the shape of the product.

Check grid of eight project types marked by whether Laravel is a strong fit and whether alternatives such as Django, Rails, NestJS, Symfony or a static site builder are worth comparing first.Check grid of eight project types marked by whether Laravel is a strong fit and whether alternatives such as Django, Rails, NestJS, Symfony or a static site builder are worth comparing first.

NestJSTypeScript (Node.js)A JavaScript team sharing types between frontend and backendYou want more built in on day one
SymfonyPHPLarge PHP systems that want component-level controlYou value speed of delivery over configuration

Laravel vs Django in one paragraph

Both are excellent. Django suits teams already working in Python, especially where the product sits next to analytics or machine learning code; Laravel suits teams in PHP and products that lean on queues, billing and a rich first-party ecosystem. Python builds are covered on our Python development company page.

When we would not recommend Laravel

A content-only marketing site, a product whose core is a Python data pipeline, or a team that writes only TypeScript and wants one language end to end. Our Next.js development and web development pages cover those cases.

Is Laravel good for large applications?

Yes, when the application is designed for it. Large Laravel applications stay healthy through clear module boundaries, background queues, caching, careful database work and horizontal scaling, not through the framework alone.

Start with a modular monolith

One deployable application, organized into modules with clear boundaries, is faster to build and easier to change than microservices for most products. Modules can be split out later if one part genuinely needs to scale on its own.

Move slow work to queues

Laravel’s queue documentation describes a unified queueing API across backends such as Amazon SQS, Redis or a relational database. Reports, imports, emails and calls to other systems run in the background so pages respond quickly, and Horizon adds a dashboard for Redis queues covering job throughput, runtime and failures.

Octane when request speed matters

Laravel Octane serves the application through application servers such as FrankenPHP, Open Swoole, Swoole and RoadRunner, booting it once and keeping it in memory between requests. We use it after profiling shows the boot cost matters, because code must then be written to avoid memory leaks.

Database work decides most performance

Indexes, eager loading to avoid repeated queries, read replicas and caching of expensive results matter more than any framework setting. Scaling projects of this kind are described on our backend and full-stack development page.

The Laravel ecosystem we build with

We use first-party packages wherever they fit, add well-maintained community packages where they save real time, and write custom code only for what makes your product different.

ORM: Eloquent models. Tables as PHP classes.
Queue: Queues and Horizon. Background jobs, monitored.
UI: Livewire or Inertia. PHP-driven or React, Vue, Svelte.
Auth: Sanctum or Passport. Tokens, SPAs, OAuth2.
Bill: Cashier. Stripe or Paddle subscriptions.
Test: Pest and PHPUnit. Included out of the box.

FilamentCommunity admin panel builder for LaravelBack-office screens built quickly

Laravel Livewire development

Livewire lets developers build dynamic screens as PHP components, which keeps a small team in one language. It is our default for admin panels and internal tools, often alongside Filament, an open-source builder for Laravel apps and admin panels.

Laravel Inertia development

Inertia connects Laravel routes and controllers to a React, Svelte or Vue frontend without a separate API, which suits products that need a rich interface. Laravel’s starter kits ship in React, Svelte, Vue and Livewire versions. Our React development team works on the same projects.

Authentication and billing without reinventing them

Sanctum provides authentication for single page apps, mobile apps and simple token APIs; Passport provides a full OAuth2 server; Cashier wraps Stripe subscription billing, including coupons, plan swaps, quantities and cancellation grace periods. We customize them rather than replace them.

AI features inside Laravel applications

The Laravel AI SDK provides one API for AI providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini, and Laravel MCP lets AI clients interact with an application through the Model Context Protocol. We use them to add assistants, summaries and search to products; deeper work is on our AI integration services page.

Architecture choices we settle in discovery

The expensive mistakes in a Laravel project are made in the first weeks: tenancy, data model, authorization and where heavy work runs. We decide them in writing before feature work starts.

Multi-tenancy options for a Laravel SaaS product
ApproachHow it worksGood forTrade-off
Shared database, tenant columnEvery table carries a tenant ID, enforced by global scopesMost SaaS productsA missed scope can leak data, so tests cover it
Schema per tenantOne database, a separate schema for each customerMid-sized customers wanting separationMigrations run once per schema
Database per tenantEach customer gets its own databaseEnterprise or regulated customersMore infrastructure and slower rollouts

Events and jobs instead of tangled controllers

When an order is placed, an event fires and separate listeners send email, update stock and notify the warehouse. Each piece is small, tested and easy to change without touching the others.

Caching with a plan for invalidation

We cache expensive queries and rendered fragments with clear keys and expiry rules, and write down what clears each cache, so users never see stale prices or permissions.

Laravel API development services and mobile app backends

Laravel is a strong choice for the API behind a mobile app or a JavaScript frontend. We design the endpoints, authentication, versioning, rate limits and documentation together, so the apps that depend on the API can rely on it.

Laravel mobile app backend development

Mobile apps need stable, versioned endpoints, token authentication, push notification jobs, file uploads and background processing. We publish an API contract early so iOS and Android work can proceed in parallel; our app development team builds the apps themselves.

Webhooks and integrations

Payment providers, CRMs, accounting tools and shipping services talk to the application through webhooks and scheduled syncs. We queue every incoming webhook, make handlers safe to run twice and log each call. Standalone API products are covered on our API development page.

Laravel SaaS development and MVPs

Laravel shortens the path to a paid SaaS product because accounts, teams, billing, email and an admin panel are largely solved problems in its ecosystem. The MVP budget goes to the features customers pay for.

Laravel MVP development that survives success

A minimum viable product still needs tests, migrations and a deployment pipeline, because the first paying customers arrive before any rewrite would. We cut scope, not foundations. See our MVP development page for the wider process.

Billing, trials and plans

Cashier handles subscriptions, trials, coupons, seat counts and failed payments on Stripe or Paddle; we add the plan rules, usage limits and dunning emails specific to your product. SaaS beyond the code, from pricing to hosting, is on our SaaS product development page.

Laravel CRM, portal and internal tool development

Many of the most valuable Laravel projects never face the public: a CRM shaped around how your team sells, a portal where customers download documents and pay invoices, or an operations tool that replaces a fragile spreadsheet.

Laravel CRM development

A custom CRM earns its cost when an off-the-shelf one forces your process into the wrong shape. We build the pipeline stages, permissions, integrations and reports you need; when extending an existing CRM is cheaper, our CRM development team says so.

Laravel portal development

Portals need careful authorization so each customer, partner or employee sees only their records. Laravel’s authorization features provide gates and policies for exactly that; portals at scale are covered on our web portal development page.

Internal tools and dashboards

Approval workflows, inventory screens, scheduling and reporting dashboards are quick to build with Livewire and an admin panel builder, and they remove hours of copy and paste each week. Reporting-heavy tools draw on our dashboard development work.

Laravel upgrades, migrations and maintenance

An application that falls behind the framework’s support window stops receiving security fixes. Laravel maintenance services keep it current; a Laravel upgrade service brings an older one back inside the window.

Timeline of one Laravel major release: released around the first quarter of the year, bug fixes for 18 months, security fixes for 2 years, then end of life.Timeline of one Laravel major release: released around the first quarter of the year, bug fixes for 18 months, security fixes for 2 years, then end of life.
Laravel’s support policy as published in its release notes. PHP itself has its own, separate support schedule.

The support windows to plan around

Laravel’s support policy gives every major release 18 months of bug fixes and 2 years of security fixes. PHP’s own supported versions page says each PHP branch is fully supported for two years from release and then receives critical security fixes for two more years. An upgrade plan has to respect both clocks.

How a Laravel upgrade service works

We audit the application and its dependencies, add tests around the riskiest paths, then move one major version at a time using the official upgrade guide, which rates each breaking change by its likelihood of impact. Each step is deployed and verified before the next.

Laravel migration services for legacy PHP

Older PHP applications, whether framework-free or built on frameworks such as CodeIgniter, can move to Laravel without a risky big-bang rewrite. We route traffic through the new application and move one area at a time, with tests proving each area behaves as before.

What a Laravel maintenance retainer includes

Framework and dependency updates, security patches, uptime and error monitoring, backups checked by restore, small fixes and a monthly backlog of improvements, with a written report. Maintenance for marketing sites is on our website maintenance page.

Laravel consulting and code audits

Laravel consulting suits teams that want a second opinion: a code and security review, an architecture plan, a performance investigation or an upgrade estimate. You get a ranked list of findings and the effort each fix takes. Broader advice is on our software consulting page.

How do you test and deploy a Laravel application?

Every change runs through automated checks, a staging environment and a reviewed merge before a zero-downtime release. The pipeline is set up in week one so it protects every feature that follows.

Process map of a Laravel delivery pipeline in six steps, from pull request checks and tests through dependency audit, staging, review and a zero-downtime production release.Process map of a Laravel delivery pipeline in six steps, from pull request checks and tests through dependency audit, staging, review and a zero-downtime production release.
Editorial process map, not measured data.

Tests that prove features, not just lines

Feature tests exercise real routes, database writes, emails and queued jobs; unit tests cover pricing rules and other logic. We write tests for permissions explicitly, because authorization bugs are the ones that leak data.

Environments and releases

Local, staging and production environments use the same configuration with different secrets. Releases cache configuration and routes, run migrations safely and restart queue workers. Pipeline and infrastructure work is described on our DevOps services page.

Hosting a Laravel application: Laravel Cloud, Forge and your own cloud

Choose hosting by who will operate it. A managed platform removes server work; a provisioning tool gives you servers you control; a custom cloud setup suits strict compliance or unusual scale.

Hosting options for a Laravel application
OptionWhat it isFitsTrade-off
Laravel CloudLaravel’s managed platform that provisions, builds, deploys and patchesTeams that want no server workLess low-level control

AWS, Google Cloud or Azure directlyContainers or virtual machines you configureCompliance needs or existing cloud contractsMore DevOps effort
Managed PHP hostingA hosting company runs the serversSmall applicationsQueues and workers may be limited

Is Laravel serverless?

Laravel itself is a framework, not a hosting model. Laravel Vapor is a serverless deployment platform on AWS, but its site says it is no longer accepting new signups. Laravel Cloud offers compute that can scale to zero, preview environments for each pull request and regions across the US, Canada, Europe and Asia Pacific.

When Forge or your own servers make sense

Forge advertises one-click provisioning, zero-downtime deployments and automated SSL on servers you control. Hosting providers and platform costs are compared on our PHP hosting and backend hosting options guides.

Security in a Laravel application

Laravel ships with protections against the most common web attacks, but they only work when the code uses them correctly. We review every build against the OWASP Top 10 and check the Laravel-specific mistakes that tools miss.

Laravel security controls we check on every project
RiskLaravel’s protectionWhat we add
Mass assignmentEloquent models are protected by default and need fillable or guarded fieldsReviews of every fillable list
Broken access controlGates and policies for authorizationA test for each role and record type
Cross-site request forgeryA CSRF token generated for each active user sessionChecks on every state-changing route
Vulnerable dependenciesComposer’s audit command checks packages against advisoriesThe audit runs in every build
Leaked secretsEnvironment files kept out of the repositorySecrets in a managed vault, rotated on staff changes
Unlogged admin actionsEvents on model changesAn audit log for sensitive records

The OWASP Top 10 as a baseline

The OWASP Top 10 is the standard awareness document for the most critical web application security risks. We use its current edition as the checklist for code review, and our website security team handles hardening and monitoring after launch.

Mass assignment and authorization, specifically

Laravel’s Eloquent documentation explains that models are protected against mass assignment by default, the attack in which an unexpected request field, such as an admin flag, changes a database column. Its CSRF protection generates a token for each active user session. We test both rather than assume them.

Dependency hygiene

Composer’s audit command lists security advisories for installed packages and flags abandoned ones. We run it on every build and keep the package list short.

Hire Laravel developers as an agency project team

When you hire Laravel developers from Progression, you hire a managed team that owns delivery: a lead developer, developers, testing and project management working to a written scope. We are not a staffing agency and we do not place individual contractors on day rates.

Ways to engage a Laravel development team
ModelHow it worksFitsYou get
Fixed-scope projectAn agreed scope, price and milestonesNew builds and upgrades with a clear endA delivered release and handover
Monthly retainerA set number of team hours each month on a prioritized backlogLive products with steady changeReleases, maintenance and reports
Dedicated project teamThe same Laravel developers on your roadmap full time, managed by usProducts with a long roadmapA stable team, our process and cover for absences

How to hire PHP Laravel developers without a technical background

Ask to see tests running on a recent project, ask how they would upgrade an application that is two major versions behind, and ask who owns the repository during the project. A strong answer to all three matters more than a list of packages.

Hire dedicated Laravel developer time, or a dedicated team?

If you want to hire a dedicated Laravel developer, consider what happens during holidays, illness or a resignation. Our dedicated project team keeps the same people on your product, with a lead who reviews their code and a replacement plan built in.

Laravel developer for hire, or a contractor?

If you need one Laravel developer for hire embedded in your own engineering team on a day rate, a contractor or a staffing firm is the right supplier, and our hire PHP developers guide explains how to screen one. If you need software delivered and maintained, hire a Laravel development team.

Hire remote Laravel developers who work your hours

Our team is based in New York and works with clients remotely across US time zones, with overlap for clients in Europe. When you hire a Laravel developer through us, they join your standups, chat and tickets while we manage delivery.

Hire expert Laravel developers for the hard parts

Some clients have capable in-house developers and want to hire Laravel programmers with deep experience for one hard problem: a multi-tenancy redesign, a major upgrade, a performance crisis or a security review. We take those on as short fixed-scope projects. Wider outsourcing models are compared on our software development outsourcing page.

Laravel development cost

Most Laravel projects fall inside the published US price bands below (market figures, not a Progression rate card). Your price follows a written scope, and the biggest drivers are integrations, user roles, data migration and compliance.

Laravel project cost bands by type of build
BuildPublished US price bandTypical timeline
Integration or automation$15,000 to $50,0004 to 10 weeks
Focused web app or internal tool$25,000 to $75,0002 to 4 months
Mobile app backend$30,000 to $100,0002 to 4 months
Client portal$60,000 to $150,0003 to 6 months
SaaS MVP$60,000 to $150,0003 to 6 months
SaaS backend$60,000 to $200,0003 to 6 months
Performance or scaling project$15,000 to $60,0002 to 8 weeks
Marketplace or complex platform$150,000 and up6 to 9 months or more
Maintenance retainerQuoted monthly after an auditOngoing

Cost to hire Laravel developers by the hour

Published US price bands for app development put freelance developers at $60 to $150 an hour and agency teams at $100 to $250 an hour or a fixed first-release price (market figures, not a Progression rate card). An agency rate includes project management, testing and cover for absences that a freelance rate does not.

Laravel website development cost

If you need a marketing website rather than an application, Laravel is usually the wrong tool and a CMS is cheaper. Progression’s own fixed-scope list on website design and development starts a brochure site of five to eight pages from $9,500.

What pushes a Laravel quote up or down

Up: many user roles, third-party integrations, data migration from a legacy system, multi-tenancy, audit and compliance requirements. Down: an admin panel builder instead of custom screens, a phased first release and clear decisions from one product owner. More examples sit on our web app development page.

A Laravel development company in the USA

Progression is a Laravel development company in New York City that delivers for clients in all 50 states and abroad. Contracts, invoicing and intellectual property assignment follow US terms, and working hours overlap with every US time zone.

Laravel development company in New York, working nationally

Clients in New York can meet us in person; clients in Florida, Texas, California and elsewhere work with us through video calls, shared boards and a weekly demo. The process is the same either way.

Laravel outsourcing without the usual gaps

Teams that outsource Laravel development usually worry about time zones, code quality and ownership. We answer all three in the contract: overlapping hours, a test suite and review on every change, and repositories in your name from the first commit.

How to choose the best Laravel development company

The best Laravel development company for you can show tests, staging and ownership terms on a real project, explain its upgrade plan and give you a written scope with milestones. A portfolio alone proves design, not engineering.

Scorecard of eight signals when choosing a Laravel development company: visible tests, staging, client ownership and an upgrade plan are positive; no tests, zip-file handover, homemade authentication and unscoped hourly billing are warning signs.Scorecard of eight signals when choosing a Laravel development company: visible tests, staging, client ownership and an upgrade plan are positive; no tests, zip-file handover, homemade authentication and unscoped hourly billing are warning signs.

Questions to ask a Laravel agency before signing

What would you build first and what would you cut? Which first-party packages would you use? How do you handle a production incident at night? What happens to the code if we part ways?

Red flags that cost money later

No tests, no staging, code that lives only on the agency’s account, custom authentication, version numbers nobody can explain and a quote with no assumptions written down.

What you own when the project ends

Everything. The repository, cloud and platform accounts, domains, third-party service accounts, documentation and runbooks are in your name throughout, and we transfer any admin access on request.

  • Source code in your repository, with full history
  • Hosting, database and storage accounts registered to your company
  • Domains, DNS and email sending accounts in your name
  • Payment, search and email service accounts owned by you

AI answers: how buyers ask assistants for a Laravel agency

Founders and CTOs now ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google AI Overviews for a shortlist before they ask anyone else. Those answers are built from pages the assistants can read and cross-check.

The prompts buyers type

Typical prompts are “best Laravel agency for a SaaS MVP”, “Laravel development company in the USA”, “how much does a Laravel portal cost”, “Laravel vs Django for a marketplace” and “who can upgrade an old Laravel app”. Each mixes a technology, a product type and often a location.

What assistants tend to cite

Official documentation for technical questions, agency service pages with plain answers and price bands, review directories, comparison articles and public code or package pages. A page that states scope, process, cost and ownership in plain sentences is easier to quote than one built around slogans.

What a software company should publish to be named

A service page per framework or product type with direct answers, a cost table, a process, ownership terms and real FAQs, plus consistent company facts everywhere it is listed. Our answer engine optimization team does this work for software firms.

How a Laravel project runs with Progression

Frequently asked questions

What is included in Laravel app development services from Progression?
They cover discovery, architecture, interface design, backend and frontend code, automated tests, deployment pipelines, hosting setup and ongoing maintenance for software built on the Laravel framework. With Progression the client also receives the repository, cloud accounts, documentation and runbooks in its own name, so the application can be maintained by any competent Laravel team later.
What work does a Laravel app development company take on for a client?
A Laravel development company plans, builds, tests, deploys and maintains web applications written with Laravel. That includes customer portals, SaaS products, APIs and mobile backends, internal tools, upgrades of older Laravel applications and migrations from legacy PHP. A good one works to a written scope and leaves you owning everything it builds.
What is Laravel used for?
Laravel is used to build database-driven web applications such as SaaS products, customer and partner portals, marketplaces, internal tools, CRMs, admin panels and the APIs behind mobile apps. It provides routing, validation, authentication, queues, caching, file storage, email and testing support, so teams can focus on the features that make their product different.
Why do companies choose Laravel?
Companies choose Laravel for speed of delivery, clear conventions and a large set of official packages for authentication, billing, search, queues and real-time features. Major releases arrive yearly with published support windows, which makes upgrades predictable, and testing with Pest and PHPUnit is included out of the box.
Who uses Laravel?
SaaS startups, agencies building client platforms, marketplace and ecommerce operators, and in-house teams in education, healthcare, finance and logistics that need portals and internal tools. It is especially common where a small team must ship and maintain a large, data-heavy application.
Is Laravel frontend or backend?
Laravel is a backend framework. It can render pages itself with Blade templates and Livewire components written in PHP, or pair with a React, Svelte or Vue frontend through Inertia, or serve a separate frontend or mobile app through an API. That is why it is often described as a full-stack choice.
Is Laravel good for large applications?
Yes, when the application is designed for scale. Large Laravel systems use a modular structure, move slow work to queues, cache expensive results, tune database queries and scale horizontally across servers. Octane can keep the application in memory between requests when profiling shows it helps.
Laravel vs Django: which should we choose?
Choose Django if your team already writes Python or the product sits beside data science or machine learning code. Choose Laravel if your team and hosting are PHP, or the product leans on subscriptions, queues and a rich first-party ecosystem. Both are mature and productive; staffing and existing code usually decide it.
How much does a custom Laravel application cost to build?
Published US price bands (market figures, not a Progression rate card) put a focused Laravel web app or internal tool at $25,000 to $75,000, a client portal or SaaS MVP at $60,000 to $150,000 and a marketplace or complex platform at $150,000 and up. Integrations, roles, data migration and compliance move the price, and every quote follows a written scope.
What is the hourly cost to hire Laravel developers in the US?
Published US price bands for app development put freelance developers at $60 to $150 an hour and agency teams at $100 to $250 an hour, or a fixed first-release price. These are market figures, not a Progression rate card. An agency team rate includes project management, code review, testing and cover when someone is away.
Do you place Laravel developers on our team, or build the project for us?
We build and maintain the project for you as a managed team, through a fixed-scope project, a monthly retainer or a dedicated project team on your roadmap. We are not a staffing agency and do not place individual contractors on day rates; if that is what you need, a contractor or staffing firm is the better supplier.
Can you take over and upgrade an existing Laravel application?
Yes. We start with a code audit covering versions, dependencies, tests, security and hosting, then propose an upgrade path one major version at a time using the official upgrade guide. Tests are added around the riskiest areas first, and each step is deployed and verified before the next one begins.
Which Laravel version should a new project start on?
A new project should start on the current major release, checked against Laravel’s published support policy at kickoff, along with a PHP version that is still in active support. Each Laravel major release receives 18 months of bug fixes and 2 years of security fixes, so starting current gives the longest runway before an upgrade.
What does your Laravel testing and deployment pipeline look like?
Every change runs code style checks, static analysis, Pest or PHPUnit tests and a Composer dependency audit, then deploys to a staging environment for review. After approval, a zero-downtime release runs migrations, caches configuration and routes and restarts queue workers, followed by a health check and monitoring.
Can Laravel power a mobile app backend or a public API?
Yes. Laravel handles versioned REST or GraphQL endpoints, token authentication through Sanctum, OAuth2 through Passport when third parties need access, rate limiting, push notification jobs, file uploads and webhooks. We publish the API contract early so mobile development can proceed in parallel with the backend.
Is Laravel serverless?
Laravel is a framework, so it can run on traditional servers or on managed platforms. Laravel Vapor offered serverless deployment on AWS but is no longer accepting new signups. Laravel Cloud, the managed platform, offers compute that can scale to zero along with managed databases, caches and storage.
Where should we host a Laravel application?
Laravel Cloud suits teams that want no server work, Forge suits teams that want servers they control with automated provisioning and deployments, and a direct AWS, Google Cloud or Azure setup suits strict compliance or existing cloud contracts. The right choice depends on who will operate the application after launch.
What does a Laravel maintenance retainer include?
Framework and dependency updates, security patches, uptime and error monitoring, backups tested by restore, small fixes and a monthly backlog of improvements, with a written report each month. The retainer also tracks the Laravel and PHP support windows so upgrades are planned well before security fixes end.
Who owns the code, repository and cloud accounts when the project ends?
You do. With Progression the repository, hosting and database accounts, domains and third-party service accounts are registered to your company from the start, and you receive an architecture note, a deployment runbook and a test suite that runs without us. Admin access we hold is transferred on request.
Can you move a legacy PHP or CodeIgniter application to Laravel?
Yes, usually in stages rather than one rewrite. We place the new Laravel application in front of the old one, move one area at a time and prove with tests that each area behaves as before. Users keep working throughout, and the old code is retired once nothing routes to it.
Which security checks do you run on a Laravel codebase?
We review the code against the OWASP Top 10 and check Laravel-specific risks: mass assignment lists, gates and policies for every role, CSRF protection on state-changing routes, secrets kept out of the repository and Composer’s audit run on every build. Sensitive records get an audit log, and security patches are applied through the maintenance retainer.
Which questions reveal whether a Laravel agency is any good?
Ask to see tests running on a recent project, how changes reach production, how they keep applications inside the support window, who reviews the code and whether the repository and accounts stay in your name. Ask for a sample scope with milestones and a sample runbook. Clear answers to those questions predict delivery better than a portfolio.
Can a Laravel application use AI features?
Yes. The Laravel AI SDK provides one interface for providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini, covering agents, structured output, embeddings and more, and Laravel MCP lets AI clients interact with an application through the Model Context Protocol. We add assistants, summaries and smarter search where they help users.
Can a New York Laravel team build for a company in another state or country?
Yes. Progression Agency is based in New York City and works with clients across the United States and worldwide. Laravel projects run through shared repositories, boards and weekly demos, and our working hours overlap with every US time zone.
