Best CMS for websites (business sites)
WordPress remains the default for a company website: any design is possible, every integration exists, marketers can edit, hosting is plentiful and hiring is easy. Its weaknesses, plugin sprawl and security, are fixed by managed hosting and maintenance. Webflow is the alternative when a design team wants visual control without plugins. Best CMS for SEO
SEO depends more on how a site is built than on the CMS, but the CMS must allow control of titles, metadata, URLs, schema, redirects, sitemaps, image optimization and speed. WordPress (with Yoast or Rank Math), Webflow and Shopify all provide this; headless setups with Astro or Next.js can outperform them on speed and structured data because the front end is fully controlled. For an owner who will edit the site without help: Squarespace for the simplest experience, Wix for more features and apps, Webflow for a designer-built site the owner updates, WordPress.com Business or managed WordPress when the site will grow into content marketing. Best CMS for enterprise
Enterprises need governance, workflows, permissions, localization, integrations with CRM and DAM, compliance and support contracts. Contentful and Sitecore, Adobe Experience Manager and Optimizely serve that market, with enterprise WordPress (WordPress VIP, WP Engine Enterprise) as the lower-cost, high-flexibility option and Sanity or Storyblok for enterprises going headless. The deciding factors are the existing marketing stack and the team’s capacity to run a complex platform.
Best CMS for ecommerce
Shopify for most stores: hosting, payments, PCI and checkout included, with content pages adequate for product marketing. WooCommerce when the store must live inside a WordPress content site. Best CMS for Next.js and Astro
Payload runs inside a Next.js project in TypeScript; Sanity offers a customizable studio and real-time APIs; Storyblok adds visual editing; headless WordPress keeps a familiar admin. - List who edits, how often and how technical they are.
