The short answerChoose React when you want the largest talent pool and ecosystem, need a matching mobile app (React Native) or a full-stack framework (Next.js). Choose Vue when a small team wants the gentlest learning curve and a framework that is productive without heavy tooling. Choose Angular when a large team wants one opinionated, batteries-included framework with strong conventions, TypeScript throughout and long-term support from Google. For most US business web apps we recommend React with Next.js; for content-heavy marketing sites a CMS or Astro often beats all three.

Comparisons are based on each project’s official documentation as linked in the text. Progression Agency builds with all of the technologies compared and has no affiliate relationship with any of them.

React vs Vue vs Angular at a glance

All three render interactive interfaces in the browser from components, and all three can be server-rendered for SEO. The differences are in how much each one decides for you, how it is learned and who maintains it.

What each framework is

React, Vue and Angular solve the same problem, building interactive interfaces from components, with different amounts of structure imposed. Each is described from its own documentation below.

React

React is a JavaScript library for building user interfaces from components, released by Facebook in 2013 and now maintained by Meta with a large community. It describes the interface with JSX, updates the page through a reconciliation process, and since React 19 supports Server Components and Actions that run on the server. React itself does not include routing or data fetching; teams add them or use a framework such as Next.js. Official documentation: react.dev.

Vue

Vue is a progressive framework created by Evan You in 2014. It can be dropped into a single page or run an entire application, uses single-file components that keep template, script and style together, and ships an official router, state library (Pinia) and full-stack framework (Nuxt). Vue 3 introduced the Composition API, which gives it a React-like way to organize logic while keeping its templates. Official documentation: vuejs.org.

Angular

Angular is a complete application framework from Google, written in TypeScript and released in 2016 as a rewrite of the earlier AngularJS. It includes routing, forms, an HTTP client, dependency injection, testing utilities and a command-line tool, so large teams share one way of doing everything. Recent versions added standalone components, signals for reactivity and built-in server-side rendering. Official documentation: angular.dev.

React vs Vue

React and Vue solve the same problem with different amounts of structure. React gives you a rendering model and expects you to assemble the rest from the ecosystem; Vue provides more out of the box and a template syntax that designers and back-end developers pick up quickly.

Choose React over Vue when you expect to hire many developers, want a mobile app from a shared codebase, or need the widest selection of libraries and vendor SDKs. Choose Vue over React when a small team wants to ship quickly with fewer decisions, when the app is being added to an existing server-rendered site, or when developers come from an HTML and CSS background.

React vs Angular

React is a library that you build a framework around; Angular is the framework. That difference drives every other comparison.

Bundle size (typical app)Smaller starting pointLarger starting point

Choose Angular over React when a large or rotating team needs strict conventions, when the organization already runs Angular, or when enterprise features such as complex forms, role-based routing and dependency injection are central. Choose React over Angular for products that must move fast, for teams that want to choose their own tools, and when a React Native mobile app is planned.

Vue vs Angular

Both ship official routing and state tools, so the choice is mostly about scale and strictness. Vue is lighter and friendlier for small and medium teams; Angular enforces more structure, which pays off when dozens of developers work on one codebase for years.

Performance: React vs Vue vs Angular

For business applications all three are fast enough; the performance a user feels comes from rendering strategy, bundle size, image handling and hosting far more than from the framework. Independent benchmarks such as the js-framework-benchmark show small differences on synthetic tests, with Vue and Svelte usually a little ahead of React and Angular on raw DOM updates. What moves Core Web Vitals in practice is server rendering or static generation, code splitting, caching and a CDN, which every framework supports through Next.js, Nuxt or Angular SSR. See SSR vs CSR and speed optimization.

Ecosystem, hiring and long-term cost

The Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2024 found React the most used front-end framework among professional developers, ahead of Angular and Vue. That translates into more libraries, more vendor SDKs, more tutorials and, in the US, more candidates, which is the largest long-term cost factor for a business. Vue’s community is large and well organized; Angular’s is smaller but concentrated in enterprises and consultancies. All three are actively maintained and none is at risk of abandonment.

React — React. Library, huge ecosystem, Next.js, React Native..
Vue — Vue. Progressive, gentle curve, Nuxt..
Ang — Angular. Full framework, TypeScript, Google LTS..
SSR — Server rendering. All three support it for SEO..
Hire — Hiring. React largest US pool..
Fit — Fit over fashion. Team, mobile, content decide..

Which should you choose? A decision rule

Answer four questions: How big will the team be? Do you need a mobile app from the same code? Is the site mostly content or mostly application? Does your organization already standardize on one of them? Then use the table.

How Progression Agency chooses

We build in React and Next.js by default, Vue and Nuxt when a client team already uses them, and Angular for enterprise clients standardized on it. The choice is written into the proposal with the reasons, and the same team that recommends the framework builds, deploys and hosts the application. See React development, front-end development and web app development.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, React, Vue or Angular?
None is better in general. React suits products and wide hiring, Vue suits small teams that want speed with few decisions, and Angular suits large enterprise teams that want strict conventions.
Is React a framework or a library?
React is a UI library; frameworks such as Next.js and Remix add routing, data loading and server rendering around it.
Is Vue easier than React?
For most developers, yes. Vue’s templates and official tooling mean fewer decisions and a gentler learning curve.
Is Angular still relevant?
Yes. Angular is maintained by Google with long-term support releases and is widely used in enterprise applications.
Which framework is fastest?
Differences on synthetic benchmarks are small; real performance comes from rendering strategy, bundle size and hosting.
Which framework is best for SEO?
Any of them when server-rendered or statically generated: Next.js for React, Nuxt for Vue and Angular SSR for Angular.
Which is best for a small business website?
Usually none: a CMS such as WordPress or a static framework such as Astro fits content sites better than an application framework.
Which framework is easiest to hire for in the US?
React, by a wide margin, according to developer surveys and job postings.
Can React, Vue and Angular be used together?
Technically yes through micro-frontends, but it adds complexity; most teams standardize on one.
What is the difference between Angular and AngularJS?
AngularJS (2010) is the original JavaScript framework, now unsupported; Angular (2016 onward) is a TypeScript rewrite.
Should I use TypeScript with React or Vue?
Yes for any application that will be maintained for years; Angular requires it.
Which framework has the best mobile story?
React, through React Native; see React Native vs Flutter.
How much does it cost to build a React, Vue or Angular app?
The framework barely changes the price; scope does. See website development cost.
Can I migrate from Angular to React or Vue?
Yes, usually route by route behind a shared shell rather than in one rewrite.
Which framework does Progression Agency use?
React with Next.js by default, Vue with Nuxt or Angular when a client standardizes on them.
What is Svelte and should I consider it?
A compiler-based framework with excellent performance and a smaller ecosystem; see Svelte vs React.
Vue vs React vs Angular: which is easiest to learn?
Vue is the easiest of the three, React is moderate, and Angular is the steepest because of TypeScript, dependency injection and RxJS. The vue vs react vs angular learning-curve gap narrows once a team has built one production app.
Angular vs React vs Vue for a long-lived enterprise application?
Angular vs React vs Vue at enterprise scale usually resolves to Angular when strict conventions and a single upgrade path matter most, React when hiring breadth matters most, and Vue when a smaller team wants productivity without heavy tooling.
React vs Angular vs Vue: which is the best framework for a website?
React vs Angular vs Vue for a website: React (via Next.js) for the largest ecosystem, Vue (via Nuxt) for approachability, Angular for large enterprise applications with strict structure. The best framework for website work that is mostly content is often none of them: Astro or WordPress, with components only where needed.
