Wix SEO services are the search work a specialist carries out on a site built with Wix: setting the rules in the SEO & GEO dashboard, writing titles and descriptions, handling URL changes in the URL Redirect Manager, checking the structured data Wix writes and adding what it leaves out, and then building the pages, local signals and links that earn rankings and mentions in AI answers. An SEO expert for Wix knows which of those jobs the platform already does, which settings call for judgment and which limits cannot be worked around. This page is for owners and marketing leads of Wix service businesses, stores, studios and portfolios. Progression Agency is based in New York City and works with clients across the United States and worldwide.

The short answerWix keeps a sitemap index current, adds a canonical tag to every page, creates 301 redirects when most page and product URLs change, writes preset structured data for products, blog posts, events and bookings, and can generate an llms.txt file. Choosing a target query for each page, wording titles people click, redirecting renamed blog posts and producing the content and links behind rankings are left to you. Wix SEO services start with Wix Site Inspection, Google Search Console and a crawl, fixes the settings once, then puts most of the budget into pages, local signals and authority, judged on inquiries and sales. Setting fixes show when Google recrawls, which Google says takes a few days to a few weeks; content and authority take months, and we put that timeline in writing at the start.
Settings, limits and tools are taken from Wix’s help center as it read on October 13, 2026; Wix changes them from time to time. Progression’s own prices are those on our SEO services and SEO pricing pages. Every other figure is a published US price band for this kind of work rather than our rate card, and we quote only after a written scope.
What does a Wix SEO expert do?
A Wix SEO expert decides what each page should rank for, sets Wix’s page-type rules and page-level fields to match, repairs what earlier edits broke, and then produces the content, local signals and links that move rankings. Wix supplies the machinery; the expert supplies the decisions and the work Wix cannot automate.
Jobs Wix already does without you
Wix generates a sitemap index with a separate sitemap for each kind of page, keeps it current, adds a self-referencing canonical tag to every page, writes default title and description rules for each page type, adds preset markup to products, blog posts, events and booking services, and creates Local Business markup from the business name and address you enter. None of that needs buying; what is worth checking is whether a past edit has quietly undone any of it.
Jobs only a person can do
Picking the query each page is meant to win, wording titles a buyer would choose over the next result, deciding what Google should never index, planning redirects before a rebuild, adding markup only where it states something new, making pages more useful than the ones ranking now, and earning the links, reviews and mentions that build authority, with every number traced back to an inquiry or an order.
Limits you plan around
The URL Redirect Manager cannot redirect from the homepage, rejects source URLs that contain a #, and holds up to 5,000 redirects per site. Each SEO setting takes up to five structured data markups, preset included. Pages created by Wix apps, such as product and blog pages, keep their own URL hierarchy. Wix Customer Care does not help with robots.txt edits or structured data. Knowing these limits before quoting is what a platform specialist brings that a generalist usually does not.
SEO optimization for Wix, area by area
On the platform side, the job breaks down into a known set of dashboard panels, page types and editor fields, so a written scope can list every item. Here is where each part lives and what it takes.
| Area | Where it lives in Wix | What the work involves |
|---|---|---|
| Page-type rules | SEO & GEO dashboard, SEO Settings, Customize defaults | Title and description patterns built from variables for each page type |
| Single pages | Editor: Pages & Menu, SEO basics; dashboard: Edit by Page | A unique title tag, meta description and slug where the pattern falls short |
| URLs and redirects | SEO Settings, Page URL; URL Redirect Manager | Product and post URL structure, parent pages, single and group 301s |
| Crawling and indexing | Index toggles; Robots.txt Editor; robots meta tag | Which pages stay out of search, and why |
| Structured data | SEO Settings, Structured data markup; Business Info | Checking presets; custom JSON-LD only where it adds facts |
| Wix Stores | Products, Edit SEO Settings | Product titles, descriptions, alt text, the brand attribute |
| Wix Blog | Blog post SEO settings | Post URLs, canonical tags, manual redirects for renamed posts |
| Languages | Multilingual dashboard and the editor’s language switcher | URL structure, translated SEO fields, alt text per language |
| Speed | Site Speed dashboard | Field data from real visitors, heavy elements, third-party code |
| Measurement | SEO reports, Wix Site Inspection, Google Search Console | Queries, index status, bot and AI bot visits, inquiries |
Everything else, from planning content to earning links and local reviews, does not depend on the platform and is covered on our SEO services page. Rendering and crawl problems on large sites are work for a technical SEO agency, and a standalone diagnosis is what our SEO audit service produces.
What Wix handles on its own, and where the budget should go
A good share of the work happens automatically, so a quote that charges to set it up is padding. The money belongs in the jobs the platform leaves undone.
A sitemap index split by page type
Every Wix site has an index at /sitemap.xml that points to separate sitemaps for pages, blog posts, blog categories, products, events, booking services and other page types. Wix’s sitemap guide says the files update whenever the site changes, include image details for main pages, Wix Stores, Wix Events, Wix Blog, Online Programs, Wix Restaurants and Portfolio, and are submitted to Google for you once the SEO Setup Checklist is complete.
Canonical tags to leave alone
Wix adds a self-referencing canonical tag to each page and recommends keeping it. Its canonical tag guide warns that changing the default can drop the page from the sitemap. Change it only where two URLs really serve the same content, such as tracking parameters, and reset it to the default otherwise.
Automatic redirects, with one big exception
When the slug of a regular page, a product page, a store category page, a booking service, an online program or an event changes, Wix creates the 301 itself on a site with a custom domain. Blog posts are left out: rename one and the old address returns a 404 until someone adds the redirect by hand.
The Wix SEO Setup Checklist: useful, and where it stops
The checklist is a good start for a new site: it asks three questions, builds a task list and connects the site to Google. It does not analyze the blog or the store, and it does not replace a plan.
What the checklist asks for
Wix’s SEO Setup Checklist guide describes three inputs: the business name, whether customers are served at a physical address or online, and keywords. Its locations guide allows up to five addresses and up to three keyword phrases of two to four words each, and asks that the addresses match the Google Business Profile. The Wix SEO location step matters more than it looks: it feeds the local details search engines and assistants read.
What it leaves out
The checklist does not analyze blog posts or business features such as Wix Stores and Wix Music, so a store or a content site can show a finished checklist while its most valuable pages have never been reviewed. Only site owners and admin collaborators can open it.
Connecting the site to Google
Connecting through the checklist needs a Premium plan and a connected domain; a site verified manually does not need to connect in the checklist. The manual route, set out in Wix’s Search Console verification guide, is to create a URL-prefix property for the full address, including https and www, and paste Google’s meta tag into Site Verification in the SEO & GEO dashboard.
A Wix SEO setup is a starting line
A finished checklist means the basics are present. It says nothing about whether the pages answer what buyers search for, whether the site has the authority to rank, or whether the right pages are indexed. Treat a complete Wix SEO setup as the point where the real work starts.
Wix SEO settings: patterns, overrides and extra tags
Most title and description work on Wix happens once, as a pattern for each page type, with page-level overrides where the pattern is not good enough. The judgment is in which pages deserve their own wording.
Title and description patterns built from variables
Wix’s SEO Settings guide explains that each page type gets default rules: main pages, for example, use the page name followed by the site name as the title tag, while the meta description pattern is left empty because search engines often write their own. Variables such as the product name or product description let one rule cover hundreds of pages.
When to write a page’s own description
Google’s snippet documentation says it builds snippets mainly from page content and uses the meta description when that describes the page better. An empty description is not an error on Wix, but the pages that bring inquiries deserve a description written as a pitch for the click, and Google’s title link guidance recommends descriptive, concise title text and warns against vague titles.
What can be overridden, and what cannot
Individual product pages, site pages, event pages, blog posts and blog category pages can override the page-type pattern. Pro Gallery expand mode, blog tags and challenges cannot. Bulk changes to indexing status and resets work only for main pages and blog posts, so large stores are edited product by product or through the pattern.
Additional meta tags and the robots meta tag
Each SEO setting takes up to 10 extra tags, limited to meta and link tags, and none may repeat a tag Wix already writes. Wix’s robots meta tag guide lists the directives it supports, including noindex, nofollow, nosnippet, noarchive, noimageindex, max-snippet, max-image-preview and max-video-preview. Most sites need only noindex on thank-you and duplicate pages.
Wix site missing from Google?Tell us the site address and what your buyers search for. A written quote for that exact scope follows the same business day, and no call is needed first.
Wix URL structure and the URL Redirect Manager
Wix handles most redirects itself, but blog posts, migrations and URL structure changes still need a written redirect map, and the Redirect Manager has rules worth knowing before anything moves.
Product and post URL structure
Product pages carry a product-page prefix and blog posts a post prefix by default. In SEO Settings both structures can be edited, as long as the new pattern keeps at least one variable, and Wix offers to redirect all traffic from the old pattern automatically and to export the resulting redirects as a CSV file. Settle the structure before the catalog or the blog grows.
Parent pages and site hierarchy
Main pages can be nested under a parent so URLs read /services/kitchen-remodeling. Wix’s site hierarchy guide notes that app pages such as products and blog posts keep their own structure, that deleting a parent flattens its children’s URLs, and that a multilingual site uses the main language’s hierarchy for every language.
Single and group redirects
In the URL Redirect Manager, a single redirect sends one old path to a page on the site or to an external URL, and a group redirect moves every page that shares a path, such as a whole set of product or post URLs. Redirects work only on a custom domain, take a few minutes to start working and cannot be recovered once deleted.
Conflicts
If a manual redirect already covers a page whose slug changes, Wix flags a conflict and asks whether to update the manual rule or keep it.
Redirects from the homepage and the free address
The Redirect Manager cannot redirect from the homepage; that is done by connecting an old domain to the site so it redirects to the primary one. It also cannot redirect from a free wixsite.com address to a Premium site, so links built to the free address before upgrading stay where they were.
Common Wix SEO problems an audit finds
Many Wix SEO problems come from a setting changed without its follow-up step, or from a default left in place that does not suit the site. These are the ones a review of a Wix site’s SEO usually turns up:
| Problem | What you see | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| A blog post renamed without a redirect | 404s from old links and old search results | Add a single 301 in the URL Redirect Manager |
| A page’s canonical tag edited | The page missing from the sitemap | Reset the canonical tag to the Wix default |
| A whole page type set to not indexable | No product or post pages in Google | Switch the page type’s index toggle back on in SEO Settings |
| robots.txt edited by hand | Blocked by robots.txt in Site Inspection | Reset the file to default, then fix page-level settings |
| Empty line breaks styled as Heading 1 | Blank H1 tags in the page code | Delete the empty lines or restyle them |
| Gallery images relying on their titles | Alt text that only repeats the image title | Write alt text for each image in the gallery settings |
| Manufacturer product descriptions | Thin, duplicated product pages | Rewrite descriptions for the buyer, then the meta description |
| Language versions on ?lang= parameters | Translated pages missing from search | Switch the Multilingual URL structure to subdirectories |
| A manual redirect on a page whose slug later changes | A conflict notice in the URL Redirect Manager | Choose Update Redirect or Keep Existing Redirect |
Why the same problems keep returning
Wix makes publishing easy, so sites gain pages, apps and edits faster than anyone reviews them. Each fix in the table is small; together they decide whether Google reads the site cleanly. A quarterly check of Site Inspection and the redirect list catches most of them early.
Wix site not showing on Google? Check these in order
A Wix site that is absent from Google, or losing ground, almost always has its cause in one of five spots. Working through them in sequence avoids buying content when the real problem is a toggle.
Is the site open to search engines?
Wix’s indexing guide says every Wix site can be crawled and indexed whether it is upgraded or not, as long as ‘Let search engines index your site’ is on in SEO Settings. Turning it off, often done during a rebuild and then forgotten, hides the whole site.
Can this page be indexed?
A page can be hidden by its own toggle in the editor, by the toggle for its whole page type, by a noindex robots meta tag, by a password or by a members-only setting. The Indexable column under Edit by Page shows the status at a glance.
Is Search Console connected?
Without a Premium plan and a connected domain there is no Search Console connection through Wix, and without Search Console there is little to diagnose with. Connect it before deciding anything else.
What does Wix Site Inspection report?
Wix’s Site Inspection overview explains that it pulls Google’s URL Inspection data into one report of each page’s index status, that it reflects the version Google last indexed rather than the live page, that Google allows 2,000 pages a day, and that some pages, such as duplicates, are never expected to be indexed.
Does the page deserve to rank?
With every switch confirmed, what is left is ordinary competition: the page may target a different intent from the query, cover less ground than the results above it, or belong to a site that fewer people link to and talk about. Fixing that means better pages and more authority, not more settings.
Headings, alt text and page structure in the Wix editors
Wix lets you change a heading’s HTML tag without changing its look, and it takes alt text from different places depending on the element. Both are quick wins on most Wix sites.
Heading tags that match the outline
Wix’s heading tag guide shows how to pick H1 to H6 for any text element under SEO & accessibility, keeping the design. It also warns that empty line breaks styled as Heading 1 produce blank H1 tags in the code, a fault worth checking on every template page.
Alt text by element
Single images take alt text in the editor. Gallery images use their titles as alt text unless you write something different, according to Wix’s alt text guide. Product images take alt text in the product editor, with an option to copy one text to every image, which is quick and rarely right for more than one photo.
Sections that answer one question each
A heading phrased as the buyer’s question, followed by a direct answer in the first sentence or two, is easy to scan and easy for a search engine or an assistant to lift. No toggle does this for you; it is how the page is written, in whichever Wix editor you use.
Structured data on Wix: presets, custom JSON-LD and limits
Wix writes preset markup for the main app page types and Local Business markup for the homepage. Custom JSON-LD is worth adding only where it states visible facts the presets do not.
The preset markups
Wix’s preset markup guide lists a Product preset for store products, a Course preset for booking services, an Event preset for events, an Images preset for portfolio projects and collections, and three options for blog posts, with Blog Posting as the default and News Article and Article as alternatives. Presets can be previewed, switched, excluded or copied into a custom markup.
Check that the preset fits the business
A Course preset suits a class or a lesson. A salon appointment or a consultation booked through Wix Bookings is not a course, and describing it as one gives search engines the wrong idea. An expert checks each preset against what the page really offers and switches, excludes or replaces it.
Local Business markup from Business Info
When a business name and address are entered in Business Info, Wix adds Local Business markup to the homepage with the name, site URL, logo and address. Its Local Business markup guide notes that this covers the primary location only, so a business with several offices adds the others itself.
Custom markup: five per setting
Custom JSON-LD is added in SEO Settings, with variables for dynamic values, up to five markups per setting including the preset. Google’s structured data policies say markup must describe the page’s visible content and does not guarantee a rich result. Our free FAQ schema generator produces a JSON-LD block and warns when a required property is absent.
Crawling controls: robots.txt, noindex and the llms.txt file
Wix gives owners a full robots.txt editor, a noindex toggle on every page and an llms.txt file it maintains for AI agents. The first is the riskiest, and the second is usually the right tool.
The Robots.txt Editor
Wix’s robots.txt guide calls editing the file an advanced feature that Wix Customer Care cannot help with. The default allows bots everywhere except password-protected pages, members-only pages and pages set not to be indexed, and Wix updates the file itself when those settings change. A ‘Blocked by robots.txt’ error usually points to a page setting, not to the file.
Hiding a page and blocking a crawler are different jobs
Google’s robots.txt introduction says the file is not a way to keep a page out of Google; a noindex rule is. On Wix that means the page’s index toggle. Robots.txt rules are for managing crawling, such as keeping bots away from internal search results.
AI crawlers on a Wix site
Wix says its sites are open to search engine and AI crawlers by default. The crawlers differ: OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT’s search features and GPTBot separately, Perplexity says PerplexityBot surfaces sites in its search results, and Anthropic describes ClaudeBot for training and Claude-User for user requests. Decide which uses to allow before writing any rule.
The llms.txt file Wix maintains
Wix’s llms.txt guide says the file is generated and kept current automatically on upgraded sites with a custom domain and indexing switched on, contains only public content and can be switched off. Editing it stops the automatic updates until it is reset to the default, so edit only when the default misdescribes the business.

Wix Stores product SEO
Each product has its own title tag, meta description, slug, alt text, brand attribute and preset Product markup. The defaults are reasonable; the work is replacing them on the products and categories that sell.
| Field | Wix default | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Title tag | Product name plus site name | Lead with what the buyer searches for; Wix suggests 60 characters at most |
| Meta description | The product description | Write a short pitch; Wix suggests 156 characters at most |
| URL slug | The product name | Keep it short; change only with the redirect toggle on |
| URL prefix | product-page | Edit the Products URL structure in SEO Settings if a cleaner path matters |
| Image alt text | Set per image in the product editor | Describe each photo; avoid one text copied to all images |
| Markup | Product preset | Add the brand attribute; check price, availability and images |
Product descriptions worth ranking
Wix’s own ecommerce SEO guidance advises against reusing manufacturer descriptions and suggests covering who the product is for and how it is used. Because the description also feeds the default meta description, rewriting it improves two things at once.
Hiding a product, and what that also hides
A product can be removed from search with its own index toggle, as Wix’s product SEO guide describes. The same switch removes it from the site’s own search results, which suits private or wholesale items and not much else.
When the catalog outgrows the defaults
Large catalogs with filtered views, many variants and frequent stock changes need more than per-product fields. Our ecommerce SEO services page covers that work, and our Shopify SEO and BigCommerce SEO pages describe the platforms larger stores often compare.
Blog SEO on Wix
Posts on a Wix blog earn rankings like posts anywhere, by answering what readers ask, yet three Wix habits need managing: the post URL prefix, the missing automatic redirects and settings that differ from regular pages.
Post URLs and the post prefix
Wix gives each post a URL with the domain, a post prefix and a slug based on the title, according to its blog SEO guide. The post URL structure can be edited for all posts in SEO Settings, though Wix’s blog guide says the post prefix usually cannot be removed; settle it once, early, with the automatic redirect option left on.
Renamed posts need a manual redirect
Because blog posts are excluded from Wix’s automatic redirects, every renamed post needs a single 301 in the URL Redirect Manager. Keep a running list of renamed posts; it is the first thing to check when old links start returning errors.
Categories and tags
Wix publishes a separate sitemap for blog categories, and category pages can take their own SEO settings, while blog tags cannot be overridden one by one. A few categories that match how readers search are worth writing for; dozens of thin tag pages are not.
Multilingual SEO with Wix Multilingual
Wix Multilingual adds hreflang and x-default tags for you, and lets each language carry its own title, description, slug and alt text. The decision that matters most is the URL structure, which is best settled before launch.
| Structure | Example | What Wix says about SEO | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Subdirectories (default) | example.com/fr | Every language shares one domain’s discoverability | None beyond the site plan |
| Subdomains | fr.example.com | Each subdomain is treated as a separate site | Premium or Studio plan; domain on Wix name servers |
| Language parameters | example.com/?lang=fr | Not recommended; versions may be treated as duplicates | None |
hreflang and x-default come built in
Wix’s multilingual SEO guide says the tags are added to multilingual pages by default, which spares a job Google’s localized versions guidance lists common mistakes for, such as missing return links. The content each language version carries is still yours to get right.
Translate the SEO fields, not only the page
Each secondary language needs its own title tag and meta description, and can have its own slug, written for how people in that market search, plus alt text per language. Wix creates a redirect when a translated slug changes. Our multilingual website design page covers translation workflow and design for several languages.
Subdomains have extra requirements
Subdomains need a Premium or Studio plan and a domain connected through Wix’s name servers rather than pointing; each subdomain gets its own sitemap and robots.txt file, and Wix’s subdomain guide allows up to 48 hours for a new one to propagate. Wix’s URL structure guide recommends staying on subdirectories unless there is a reason not to.
Site speed and Core Web Vitals on Wix
Wix compresses images, serves pages from a CDN and lazy-loads images on every site. Slow Wix pages are usually slow because of what was placed on them: heavy media above the fold, animations, third-party apps and custom code.
What the Site Speed dashboard shows
Wix’s Site Speed guide describes two views: a real visitor experience section built from Wix’s own data on actual visits, and a Google PageSpeed simulation that tests a low-end device on a slow 4G connection. Data appears once a site has had 10 or more sessions in the last seven days.
What Wix already does
Images under 25 MB are compressed on upload, pages are delivered through a CDN, and lazy loading, which shows a low-resolution placeholder while the full image loads, cannot be switched off, according to Wix’s loading time guide.
What still slows Wix pages
Wix’s Core Web Vitals guide points to the usual causes: custom fonts on the largest text element, PNG images where JPG or WebP would do, galleries, videos and store widgets above the fold, and animated hero elements, since animations start only after loading. Third-party apps and custom code add the rest.
Google’s thresholds
For a good experience, Google’s Core Web Vitals page sets the bar at a Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less, an Interaction to Next Paint below 200 milliseconds and a Cumulative Layout Shift below 0.1. Pages that miss those marks are the subject of our website speed optimization service.
Local SEO for Wix service businesses
Wix stores one primary address for its Local Business markup and up to five locations in the SEO Setup Checklist. Map results still depend mainly on the Google Business Profile, which Wix can manage from the dashboard once a domain is connected.
Business Info and the primary location
Keep the name, address and phone in Business Info identical to the Google Business Profile and the site footer. For several offices, add each real location to the checklist and give each one a page with its own staff, hours and reviews.
Google Business Profile from the Wix dashboard
Wix’s Business Profile overview says a profile can be created or linked from the dashboard with a connected domain and a physical location where customers are served, and that edits made in Wix are saved to the profile. Our Business Profile optimization page covers the work beyond the basics.
Location pages, not doorways
Google’s spam policies list pages aimed at specific cities or regions that funnel visitors to one page among their doorway-abuse examples. A page for each real office or service area, with its own detail, is a different thing from the doorway examples Google lists; dozens of near-identical city pages are the pattern the policy describes. Our local SEO services page and the free Business Profile audit, which scores a completeness checklist and compares the name, address and phone across the listings you paste in, are the next stops.
AI search on Wix: the AI Visibility Overview and AI bot reports
Wix now reports on AI search in two places: an AI Visibility Overview that runs test questions in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and SEO reports that log AI bot visits. Both are useful spot checks, and neither measures all demand.
How the AI Visibility Overview works
Wix’s AI Visibility Overview guide says the tool needs a Premium plan, generates questions from the site description, sends them to the chosen platform and scores the share of questions in which the site was mentioned or cited. It also shows competitors, the sources the answers drew on and a brand perception summary.
Its limits
Data appears only after 50 unique visitors in 30 days. A new test can run once a day and five times a month, up to 50 questions are stored, and each test uses AI credits. Wix itself notes that asking the same questions directly in an assistant can give different results, so read the score as a trend, not a ranking.
AI bot traffic in the SEO reports
Wix’s SEO reports include AI bot traffic over time and AI bot visits by page, alongside search performance, bot visits and response status codes. The AI Visibility Overview adds that user-query data is available for ChatGPT and Perplexity bots only.
Google’s AI features use the same index
According to Google’s guide to AI features in Search, a page needs nothing special to be shown in AI Overviews or AI Mode: it has to be indexed and eligible for a snippet. Wix fixes that keep a page indexed and eligible for a snippet, such as index settings, redirects and a current sitemap, meet the one requirement Google lists; Google does not promise a place in those answers.

How owners ask AI assistants about Wix SEO
When Wix site owners turn to ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot or an AI Overview, they usually want one of two things: a fix for a setting, or the name of someone who can fix the site for them. Different sources answer each.
The questions owners type
Owners ask assistants whether Wix is good for SEO, how it compares with WordPress, why a blog post returns a 404 and how to do SEO on Wix themselves; a smaller number ask who can fix the SEO on a Wix site for a business like theirs. The first kind are how-to questions; the second is a request for a name.
What assistants tend to draw on
Setting questions are answered from Wix’s own help articles and from guides precise enough to name the panel and the toggle. Requests for a provider lean on pages where the service, what it includes and what it costs are written out, backed by reviews and directory listings that say the same. Pages that only invite a call leave an assistant nothing to quote.
What a Wix business should publish
Write down, in plain text on the site, the answers buyers want before they call: what you do, where, for whom, roughly what it costs, how a job runs and who does it, with real customer feedback beside it. We cover that work on our answer engine optimization and LLM SEO pages, and it is part of every SEO retainer we run rather than an add-on.
Wix Editor, Wix Studio and Wix Harmony: what changes for SEO
The dashboard tools, from SEO Settings to the URL Redirect Manager, are shared. What differs is how pages are built, which apps are available and whether a site can ever move to another editor.
| Editor | Built for | What it means for SEO |
|---|---|---|
| Wix Editor | Owners building with drag and drop | Page SEO in the SEO basics panel; a site cannot be migrated to the Studio Editor, only rebuilt |
| Wix Studio | Agencies and enterprises | Custom CSS, a VS Code-based IDE, GitHub integration and responsive layout tools |
| Wix Harmony | Owners who mix drag and drop with an AI assistant | In-editor SEO tasks with an Optimize With AI option; Multilingual and the CMS not yet available |
Wix Studio vs the Wix Editor for SEO
Wix’s Wix Studio overview describes a workspace for agencies with concurrent editing, custom CSS and coding in a VS Code-based IDE. None of that changes the SEO settings themselves; it changes how cleanly pages can be built. Wix’s rebuild note is clear that a Wix Editor site cannot be migrated to Studio, so a move is a rebuild with a redirect map. Our Wix vs Webflow comparison covers Wix Studio against Webflow.
Wix Harmony’s built-in SEO tasks
Wix’s Harmony SEO guide describes a per-page task list (focus keyword, title tag, meta description, index setting, page URL and heading structure) that can be completed by hand or with Optimize With AI, after reviewing the suggestions. Review them: AI-drafted titles can read like everyone else’s.
Choosing an editor before a rebuild
Wix’s Harmony introduction lists Wix Multilingual and the CMS among apps not yet available in Harmony, and says a Harmony site cannot be moved to the Wix Editor or Wix Studio. A site that needs several languages or database-driven pages should check that list on the day it chooses.
Moving a site to Wix, or rebuilding on it, without losing rankings
A move keeps its search traffic when old addresses either survive unchanged or point permanently at their nearest new page, the domain does not change, and those redirects are left running for a long time.
Match URLs first, then redirect the rest
Wix’s migration advice is to recreate pages at their old URLs where possible, redirect the rest, keep search engines out with the site-wide index setting while building, and switch it back on at launch. Redirects need a Premium plan and a connected domain.
Leave redirects running for at least a year
Google’s site move guidance advises keeping them as long as possible, and generally for a year or longer. Because a Wix site holds at most 5,000 redirects, group redirects that move a whole set of product or post URLs in one rule are the efficient choice after a large rebuild.
Leaving Wix
Moving away is a migration with its own redirect map. Our Wix vs WordPress comparison answers whether Wix can rank and when switching makes sense, and our website migration services page covers the move itself.
Wix SEO services compared: specialist, consultant, agency or company
These titles are used loosely, yet the work behind them varies a great deal in duration, breadth and who actually carries it out. Match the provider to the job in front of you rather than to the label.

| Wix SEO specialist | A project with an end date: inspection, settings, redirects, markup | The structure is fine but the setup needs tidying |
| Wix SEO consultant | Hours of advice, or a written plan | Your own team will make the changes and wants a direction |
| Wix SEO agency or company | An ongoing retainer covering technical, content, local and link work | Organic search brings in a large share of leads or revenue |
| Wix Marketplace professional | A design or build, with SEO often offered alongside | The site has to be built or rebuilt first |
A Wix SEO specialist for a defined fix
What a specialist sells is knowledge of the platform’s rules, which lets the work be quoted as a finite project: read Site Inspection, correct the settings, write the redirects, check the markup, tune speed. That is the right first purchase for most Wix sites.
A consultant for direction
Consulting fits a business that has someone on staff to carry out changes but wants an outside view on what comes first. Expect a short written plan that names pages and reasons, not a printout of tool alerts.
When a Wix SEO company or agency makes sense
Monthly fees from a Wix SEO agency or company are justified when new pages, local work and outreach keep going every month. A retainer that only ever touches settings should raise a question: what new work will exist in month four that did not exist in month one?
Wix SEO experts and Wix designers do different jobs. The designer delivers a working site and may fill in the basic fields at launch; search work begins once the site is live. When a redesign has to come first, our website design and development page explains how builds work, and our Webflow development page covers a platform many teams consider instead.
Hiring through the Wix Marketplace
The Wix Marketplace lists professionals for design, development, marketing and SEO, and Wix’s help articles point owners to it for help with structured data and other advanced settings. It suits owners who want a Wix-first provider for a build with SEO included.
What to ask a Marketplace professional about SEO
Ask which Wix editor they build in, what happens to blog posts that are renamed, who writes titles and descriptions, whether they write custom markup and for what reason, and whether their involvement stops at launch. Some Marketplace professionals are designers first, which is ideal for a build; long-running search work can call for someone else.
Wix SEO support from Wix itself
Wix’s help center is thorough, and Wix Customer Care helps with the product. Its own articles say Customer Care cannot help with robots.txt changes or structured data, so Wix SEO support for strategy and advanced settings comes from a specialist, the Marketplace or your own team.
How to choose an SEO expert for Wix
Pick someone who can point to specific problems on your own site in the first conversation, quotes in writing and keeps you as the owner of every account. Each requirement below can be tested before a contract is signed.
| Requirement | How to check it |
|---|---|
| Knows the three editors apart | Ask which editor your site runs on and what difference it makes to the plan |
| Looks before recommending | Ask them to name the first pages they would work on, with a reason for each |
| Plans redirects ahead of URL changes | Ask how renamed blog posts and group redirects will be handled |
| Adds markup only with a purpose | Ask which pages would get custom JSON-LD and what facts it would add |
| Measures leads and revenue | Ask to see an example of a monthly report with client details removed |
| Leaves ownership with you | Search Console, analytics and the Business Profile stay in your accounts; the provider is a user |
| Promises effort, not positions | Ask how links will be earned and what is never done to get them |
| Puts terms on paper | Ask for the scope, the price and the notice period in writing before work starts |
Questions to ask Wix SEO experts before you sign
Does my editor or plan get in the way of anything you would do? Where would you start, and why there? What happens to our blog links when a post is renamed? By month three, what should the report be showing, and how does it connect to leads? If we part ways, what stays with us?
Red flags
Promises of a top position, charges for submitting a sitemap that Wix submits itself once the SEO Setup Checklist is complete, plans built on many look-alike town pages, monthly fees for settings that only needed fixing once, and reports full of rankings that never mention leads.

Reviews, case studies and the FTC rule
Provider reviews show whether a firm answers emails and delivers on time, and say little about results. Look for patterns in reviews and for method in case studies.
What the FTC’s review rule bans
Under the FTC’s rule on consumer reviews and testimonials, a business may not publish invented reviews, pay for reviews on condition they are favorable or unfavorable, let officers or managers review it without saying so, pass off a site it controls as an independent reviewer, or silence critics with baseless legal threats. Reviews posted in a burst, or that read as if one person wrote them all, are worth questioning.
What a useful case study shows
Where the site started, which changes were made in which month, what was measured and for how long, and what failed along the way. A rising line on a chart without dates, page names or any tie to leads proves very little.
Wix SEO expert cost and our published prices
Progression’s published SEO retainers run from $1,500 to $2,500 a month for a small local business, $2,500 to $5,000 for competitive local or regional markets and $5,000 to $10,000 for national terms or larger sites; below about $1,500 a month we do not take the work. One-off projects start at $1,900 for a technical audit, $1,200 for keyword research and mapping, $3,200 for migration support with redirect mapping and $2,400 for analytics and conversion tracking.
Where those prices come from
Both lists are published on our SEO services and SEO pricing pages. Under a retainer, technical fixes, page work, content, outreach, local listings and measurement sit in one written scope, reported on a single page each month, and either side can end it on thirty days’ notice. Plenty of buyers of Wix SEO services only need the one-off project, and we will tell you if that is you.

Wix SEO plans and what they include
Wix does not sell SEO as a separate plan. Its plan guide lists Light, Core, Business and Business Elite, each with a custom domain; the SEO tools come with the site, while connecting Google, redirects and the llms.txt file need an upgraded site with a connected domain, and the AI Visibility Overview needs a Premium plan.
What moves Wix SEO cost up or down
Page and product counts, how many old URLs were changed without redirects, the editor in use, whether pages must be written or only adjusted, how many language versions exist, and how many locations need local work.
A typical first six months of Wix SEO
Most engagements open with diagnosis and redirect work, move on to settings, and spend the later months on pages, local listings and authority, reporting every month along the way. Sequence matters more than exact dates.
The first conversation
A provider should be able to name the pages it would start with in month one, with a reason for each. If it cannot be that specific, what is on offer is a package, not a plan for your site.
Monthly reporting
The report is one page: work delivered, changes in results, anything that stalled, our own mistakes and the next steps, all set against the leads and sales organic search produced.
How long does Wix SEO take to work?
Setting fixes show once Google recrawls the pages; new pages and authority take months. Wix updates the sitemap as soon as the site changes, yet crawling and indexing happen on Google’s schedule, which no provider controls.
Fast: changes Google sees on its next crawl
Corrected index settings, restored redirects, rewritten titles and descriptions, and fixed headings. Google’s recrawl guidance says crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, and requesting indexing for key URLs can help.
Slow: content, local signals and links
New pages for new queries, a steady flow of reviews, consistent listings and links from other sites take months to show. The expected pace goes into the written plan on day one, so progress in month four is judged against what was agreed.
Measuring Wix SEO
Wix’s own SEO reports give the quick picture; Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools give the detail; analytics with conversion events shows whether search is producing leads and orders.
Wix’s SEO reports
The reports show Google search performance over time, top queries, top pages, average position, bot and AI bot traffic and response status codes. Search data comes from Search Console, and Wix notes the most recent 72 hours may not appear yet.
Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools
Both connect through the Site Verification tool in the SEO & GEO dashboard; Wix’s Bing verification guide uses a meta tag, as Google does. Both show indexing problems that Wix’s own panels summarize.
Inquiries and orders
For a small site, Wix Analytics often covers it. Once paid campaigns or long sales cycles enter the picture, fire a conversion event on each form and on the order confirmation so revenue can be traced to search. The setup is described on our marketing analytics page.
SEO for Wix website owners who do it themselves
Owners with a few spare hours each month can cover the essentials themselves. Follow this sequence; every step builds on the one before it.
- Upgrade, connect a custom domain and confirm ‘Let search engines index your site’ is on.
- Complete the SEO Setup Checklist with your real locations, then confirm Search Console is connected.
- Write down the handful of searches your buyers really use, and give each one its own page.
- Set the title and description pattern for each page type in SEO Settings.
- Write your own title tag and meta description for the pages that bring inquiries.
- Fix headings so each page has one clear H1 and no empty Heading 1 lines.
- Write alt text for images and gallery photos that matter.
- Rename unclear slugs, and add a manual 301 for every renamed blog post.
- Hide thank-you pages and duplicates with the page’s index toggle.
- Check each preset markup fits what the page offers.
- Open the Site Speed dashboard and move heavy elements below the fold.
- Review the SEO reports monthly and improve pages with many impressions and few clicks.

SEO for Wix sites by type of business
Every Wix site uses the same settings. What differs from one business to the next is which pages bring in revenue and what a customer needs to read before making contact.
Service businesses on Wix Bookings
Give each service its own page, and each real service area its own page where it is warranted, showing prices or ranges, how the job runs, qualifications and reviews. Review the Course preset on booking pages, and count booked appointments as the result.
Stores on Wix Stores
Category pages with real introductions, rewritten product descriptions, product alt text and the brand attribute carry most of the weight. The SEO Setup Checklist does not review store pages, so they need their own audit.
Restaurants, studios and venues
Menus, class schedules, hours and booking are what people search for. Text on the page is easier for search engines and assistants to read than a menu or schedule posted only as an image or a PDF.
Portfolios and creative businesses
Portfolio projects get an Images preset and image details in the sitemap. Describe each project in text, with the place, the client type and the kind of work, so the page can rank for more than the studio’s name.
Event organizers
Event pages get an Event preset with dates and location. Keep past events from piling up as thin pages, and redirect retired event URLs to the current program.
When Wix is the wrong platform for your SEO goals
Wix serves non-developers well, and its search tools now cover the needs of most small and mid-sized sites. Trouble starts when the plan depends on a level of control Wix does not give.
- More than 5,000 redirects to maintain after a large migration.
- Several languages on separate subdomains with a domain that must stay pointed rather than on Wix’s name servers.
- Very large catalogs that need fine control over filtered and faceted pages.
- Development teams that need a full staging environment with separate data; Wix Studio offers test sites, Preview mode and GitHub integration, which may or may not fit their release process.
- A site built in Wix Harmony that later needs Wix Multilingual or the CMS before they arrive there.
If one of those applies, our Webflow and WordPress comparison and our WordPress SEO services page describe the usual alternative. Switching platforms means a full redirect plan of its own, so do it to remove a real constraint, not on instinct.

What to have ready before you hire help
A few logins and some history let month one start with real work. Gathering them rarely takes more than an hour.
- Collaborator access to the Wix site at a role that covers the agreed work.
- Access to Google Search Console and analytics, held in accounts the business owns.
- Any record of pages, products or posts that were renamed or removed, plus the addresses of an older site.
- The editor the site was built in, the plan it is on and the apps it uses.
- Your highest-earning services or products, and the towns or regions you cover.
- Competitors your customers bring up by name.
