Jewelry Website Design: Web Design for Jewelers Who Sell Online, by Appointment or Both

Updated October 2026 · Written and maintained by the Progression Agency strategy team

Web design for jewelers means planning, designing and building the online store of a jewelry retailer, designer, maker or custom jeweler: the catalog, product pages, appointment and custom design flows, repair intake, checkout and the technical work that lets the pieces be found. It is for independent showrooms, direct-to-consumer brands, handmade studios and estate dealers, and it produces orders, booked consultations and custom briefs the store can trace to the page that started them. Progression Agency, based in New York City, works with clients across the United States and worldwide.

The short answerA jewelry website works when every piece is described the way a careful jeweler would describe it across the counter: metal and karat, stone and whether it is natural or laboratory-grown, weight, size, lead time and terms, with photos and video at true scale. Stocked pieces should check out cleanly; bridal, custom and high-value work should lead to an appointment. The build has to follow the FTC’s jewelry guides on every claim, carry product data search engines and assistants can read, and load fast on a phone. On our fixed-scope table, one landing page is from $1,400 and an ecommerce store under 200 SKUs is from $34,000, built over 12 to 18 weeks.

Jewelry, lending, accessibility, postal, platform and UK hallmarking rules appear here as their publishers stated them in October 2026 and may change, and this page is not legal advice. Every price is from Progression’s own fixed-scope website table; a quote follows a written scope.

What does web design for jewelers include?

It covers the whole store online: catalog structure, product templates, collection and guide pages, appointment and custom design flows, repair intake, checkout, policies, structured data and the merchant feed. The design work is in making each of those feel like the showroom.

Our marketing plan for jewelers lists the template elements a jewelry build needs, from filters by metal and stone to ring-size guides, alongside photography, email and local search. This page picks up from that list: how to structure the site for your kind of business, model the catalog, word the claims and price the build.

Showroom: Independent jewelry store. Counter, repairs, bridal.
Designer: A brand selling direct. Collections and launches.
Handmade: Maker or small studio. Made to order, small batches.
Gold: Gold and chain jeweler. Sold by karat and weight.
Estate: Vintage and estate pieces. One of a kind, fast turnover.
Bespoke: Custom engagement rings. Consultation first.

Which kind of jewelry business is the site for?

Start from how you sell today. Jewelry store website design for a showroom, a designer brand, a maker, a gold specialist and an estate dealer differs in the home page, the catalog and the lead action.

Jewelry shop website design for a showroom with a counter

The site has to bring people through the door: store hours, parking, appointment booking, repair and appraisal services, and the bridal cases you carry. Online checkout matters for gifts and stocked pieces; the showroom does the rest.

Designer brands selling direct

Collections, the story behind them and launch pages lead. Product pages carry the most weight, and the site needs room for editorial photography, press and stockist pages without slowing down.

Handmade jewelry website design for makers and small studios

A maker’s site sells the hand behind the piece: process photos, materials, made-to-order lead times and commissions. It should also let the maker sell beyond a marketplace, where the customer list and the brand belong to the shop rather than the platform. Our artist website design page covers portfolio-led sites for makers who also exhibit.

Gold and chain jewelers

Buyers compare by karat, gram weight, length and link style. Filters for those, clear karat marking and a pricing method that keeps up with the metal market decide whether the catalog is usable.

Estate and vintage dealers

Every piece is one of a kind and sells once. The site needs fast listing, honest condition notes, era and maker details where known, and a hold or reserve option for serious buyers.

Jewelry web development: choosing the platform

Most jewelry stores fit Shopify or WooCommerce; very large catalogs, unusual configurators or tight ERP links can justify a custom or headless build. Pick the platform from the catalog model and the way you sell, not from a theme you like.

Platform options for a jewelry store, editorial comparison
OptionWhat it isSuits a jeweler whoWatch for
ShopifyHosted ecommerce platformWants a fast launch and a large app ecosystemUp to 2,048 variants and three options per product
WooCommerceEcommerce on WordPress, which you hostWants full control of code, data and contentHosting, updates and security are yours to run
Custom or headlessYour own front end on a commerce back endHas a complex configurator or ERP and POS linksHigher build and maintenance cost

Shopify for jewelry stores

Shopify’s variant rules allow up to 2,048 variants and up to three options per product, so metal, ring size and stone choice can live on one product. A fourth choice, such as center stone shape, needs a configurator or separate products. Our Shopify builds page covers themes, apps and migrations.

WooCommerce on WordPress

WooCommerce runs on WordPress, so the store owns its site, code and data and can publish guides in the same system. It needs good hosting and regular updates. Compare the two in Shopify vs WooCommerce.

When a custom build pays

A loose-diamond search across thousands of stones, a ring builder with live pricing, or inventory shared with a point-of-sale system and several stores can outgrow off-the-shelf themes. Our ecommerce web development page covers custom and headless options, for the point where jewelry website development turns into custom code.

Jewelry website template or custom design?

A jewelry website template from a theme store gets a small catalog online quickly, which suits a new maker. The limits show as the catalog grows: few templates leave room for full specifications, a ring builder or appointment flows. Good website design for jewelry adapts a theme to the catalog model first and the look second, and designs custom templates only where the theme cannot cope.

Is a jewelry website builder enough?

For a maker with a few dozen pieces, a hosted builder can be. The best website builder for a jewelry business is the one that handles its variants, holds specifications as text, books appointments and lets you export products and customers if you leave. Check those four before comparing monthly plans.

How should a jewelry catalog be modeled?

Decide what is a product, what is a variant and what is a configurable choice before any design. Getting that wrong is the most expensive mistake in jewelry web development, because it shapes filters, URLs, the feed and every template.

Products, variants and configurators

Metal color and ring size are usually variants of one product. A setting that takes many center stones is usually a configurator: setting first, then stone, then size, with the price updating at each step. Our ecommerce product configurator page explains how those builders work.

Ring sizes and resizing

List the sizes each piece is made in, say which sizes are made to order, and state whether and how the piece can be resized. If a design cannot be resized, the page should say so before the cart.

Loose stones and center stones

Stones from a supplier’s inventory need their own data: shape, carat weight, color, clarity, cut where graded, certificate and whether the stone is natural or laboratory-grown. Each field should be filterable and shown as text.

Made-to-order and lead times

Show the lead time on the product page, not in an email after the order. A clear number of weeks prevents the most common complaint in custom work.

Product pages that answer the questions buyers ask a jeweler

Show the piece at true scale from several angles, state every specification as text, and put terms and the next step beside the price. A buyer spending a month’s pay wants the answers a good salesperson would give.

Photos, video and 3D

Shopify’s product media can include images, 3D models and videos, shown through a theme that supports them. On-hand photos for scale, a short video for sparkle and a 3D view for settings do more than a larger hero image. See augmented reality development for try-on features.

Specification as text

Google’s merchant listing structured data requires a product name, image and an offer with price and currency, and recommends properties such as material, color, size, GTIN and brand. Put the same facts in visible text so shoppers, search engines and assistants all read the same thing.

Google’s image SEO guidance calls alt text the most important attribute for image metadata, asks for short descriptive file names and for images placed near relevant text. A catalog is mostly pictures, so this matters on every page.

Disclosure rules every jewelry website has to follow

The FTC’s Guides for the Jewelry, Precious Metals, and Pewter Industries cover claims in labeling, advertising, promotional materials and all other forms of marketing, at every level of the trade including retailers. Every product page we write follows them, though this page is not legal advice.

Laboratory-grown stones

Under 16 CFR 23.12, a diamond is a mineral consisting essentially of pure carbon crystallized in the isometric system. Laboratory-created diamonds must be qualified clearly and conspicuously with words such as laboratory-grown, laboratory-created or a manufacturer name followed by created, and the word cultured needs that same qualification.

Gold karat and solid gold

Under 16 CFR 23.3, a piece described as gold should carry its karat fineness immediately before the word, with equal conspicuousness, as in 14 Karat Gold. A piece with a hollow center should not be described as solid. The stamping tolerance noted there is three parts per thousand for gold without solder and seven parts per thousand where solder is included.

Vermeil and plated pieces

Under 16 CFR 23.4, vermeil means a sterling silver base coated on all significant surfaces with gold or gold alloy of at least 10 karat, at least 2.5 microns thick. A gold-plated base metal layer under the gold has to be disclosed.

Treatments and quality marks

16 CFR 23.24 treats failing to disclose a gem treatment as deceptive when the treatment may not be permanent, creates special care needs or significantly affects value. Federal law at 15 U.S.C. 297 requires a maker or dealer who stamps a quality mark on an article to apply its registered or applied-for trademark, or its name, close to that mark.

Made in USA claims for handmade pieces

The FTC’s Made in USA labeling rule allows the label only when final assembly or processing and all significant processing happen in the United States and all or virtually all components are made and sourced there. A maker using imported stones or findings should describe the work precisely instead, such as handmade in a named city.

Financing banners on product pages fall under the federal Truth in Lending advertising rule: stating a payment amount, number of payments, down payment or finance charge triggers disclosure of the down payment, repayment terms and annual percentage rate.

Jewellery website design for UK, Indian and Australian buyers

Shoppers in those markets read British spelling, and jewellery shop website design aimed at them should match it, along with their currency, sizes and shipping terms. Hallmarking rules differ by country, so product pages need local wording as well as local prices.

Jewellery website development for several markets

Separate language and currency versions with correct hreflang, ring sizes shown in each market’s system, duties and taxes stated before checkout, and returns that work from abroad. Our multilingual website design page covers the setup, and our bilingual site tier starts at $26,000.

Gold jewellery website design for buyers who shop by weight and purity

Gold buyers abroad expect gram weight, karat or fineness and the hallmark shown on the page. India runs a mandatory hallmarking order for gold jewelry through the Bureau of Indian Standards, so a store selling there should show the hallmark details buyers will look for.

UK hallmarking

Under Schedule 1 of the UK Hallmarking Act 1973, articles are exempt from hallmarking only below set weights: less than 1 gram of gold, 7.78 grams of silver, 0.5 gram of platinum and 1 gram of palladium. UK trading standards guidance adds that dealers must display the approved dealer’s notice on their premises. A US store selling into the UK should check how these rules apply to its pieces before listing them there.

Appointments, custom work and repairs online

Give each of the three its own page and its own form. Custom work needs a structured brief, appointments need real slots, and repairs need prices, turnaround and a safe way to send the piece in.

Showroom and video appointments

Offer slots from the same calendar staff use, ask what the visit is for, and send a confirmation with parking or the video link. Bridal appointments convert better when the store knows the budget band and the date in advance.

The custom design brief

On a custom jewelry website, the brief form does the work of a first consultation. Ask for style references, metal, stone type and shape, budget band, ring size and the date the piece is needed. A brief in that shape lets the designer reply with a sketch plan instead of five questions.

Repair intake and mail-in service

List the common repairs with price ranges and turnaround, explain how a piece is inspected on arrival, and offer a mail-in option with tracking. Our jewelry marketing page explains why repair pages bring in new customers.

Insured shipping

State how pieces travel both ways. USPS insurance and extra services say Registered Mail items can be insured for up to $50,000 at a Post Office, and Priority Mail Express includes up to $100 of insurance in the price. For higher values, compare private carrier and specialist insurance options before choosing a method.

Jewelry landing page design for launches, bridal and ads

A collection launch, a bridal event, a holiday gift guide or a paid campaign should each send traffic to a page built for it. A jewelry landing page shows the pieces, the offer and one clear action.

What the page carries

The collection or offer in the headline, six to twelve pieces with prices, the dates if it is an event, proof such as reviews or press, and either add-to-cart buttons or an appointment form. Nothing else competes for the click.

Ad destination rules

Under its destination requirements, Google Ads turns away broken pages, pages its crawler cannot reach, pages blocked where the ad runs and pages thin on original content. A launch page with real product detail clears that bar and sells.

On our price table, one landing page (a template, copy, a form and tracking) is from $1,400 over one to two weeks. See landing page design for how launch pages are tested once traffic arrives.

Search, merchant listings and structured data for jewelers

Mark up products with complete offer data, send the same data to Google Merchant Center, mark up the store as a JewelryStore, and write collection and guide pages that answer real questions. That combination covers search, shopping and local results.

Free product listings

Google’s free listings page says products may show on Search, Images, Lens, YouTube and Gemini, that new Merchant Center accounts are opted in by default, and that return and shipping settings are needed; shipping setup is mandatory in some countries, including the US. Listing status does not guarantee products will be shown.

The store itself

Schema.org lists JewelryStore as a type of Store under LocalBusiness, and Google’s local business guide asks for the most specific sub-type possible, with name and address required.

Guides and collection pages

Collections for engagement rings, wedding bands or gold chains, and guides on metals, stone choices, sizing and care, each linked to the pieces they discuss. Our ecommerce SEO and Shopify SEO pages cover the search work, and local SEO covers the showroom.

FAQ markup in 2026

Since May 7, 2026, Google no longer shows FAQ rich results in Search, as its Search Central changelog notes. Questions and answers on product and guide pages still help buyers and give assistants text to quote.

How do AI assistants recommend jewelers and pieces?

Shoppers put the question to Google’s AI Overviews, Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude or Microsoft Copilot: a jeweler near them, for a lab diamond ring under a budget, or for who can resize a ring this week. The answers lean on clear product data, store pages, reviews and guides.

How buyers ask

Questions arrive as full sentences: which local jeweler does custom engagement rings, whether a 14 karat ring can be resized, what the difference is between vermeil and gold plated. Each one maps to a product, service or guide page you can publish.

What the assistants tend to cite

Product pages with complete specifications, merchant listings, the store’s Business Profile and reviews, jeweler directories and trade bodies where the store is listed, and guides that answer one question well. Pages that hide prices or specifications give them nothing to quote.

What to publish so the store gets named

Specifications as text, honest stone and metal wording, service pages for repairs and custom work, and consistent store details everywhere. According to Google’s AI features guide, a page needs nothing special for AI Overviews or AI Mode: it must be indexed and able to show a snippet, and markup should agree with what the page shows.

Speed, accessibility and trust at checkout

Jewelry pages are heavy with images and video, so they need a speed budget from the first template. Checkout has to show every term before payment and work for every shopper.

Speed targets

For a good rating in Google’s Core Web Vitals, three out of four page loads need the largest image or text block painted in 2.5 seconds or less, responses to taps in 200 milliseconds or less, and layout shift no higher than 0.1. Our contracts carry those mobile field targets, which on a jewelry store means compressed images and video that waits for a tap.

Accessible stores

A store open to the public owes its online shoppers access too, according to the Justice Department’s web accessibility guidance. At level AA, WCAG 2.2 sets a 4.5:1 contrast floor for body text and a minimum pointer target of 24 CSS pixels square, which thumbnail galleries and size pickers often miss. See ADA compliant website design.

Terms before payment

Returns, resizing, engraving, financing and shipping insurance should be visible on the product page and in the cart. A buyer who finds them only after paying is a buyer who asks for a refund.

How much does a jewelry website cost?

An online store with fewer than 200 SKUs is from $34,000 on our fixed-scope table; a showroom site without checkout is from $9,500 and a launch page from $1,400. A quote follows a written scope.

What the ecommerce tiers cover

The ecommerce tier includes the catalog, checkout, product schema and analytics; the integrations tier adds ERP, PIM or fulfillment integration and data migration. Hosting and maintenance are optional extras, quoted on their own; our maintenance page explains what that work involves.

Cost drivers for a jewelry store

SKU count, a configurator or loose-stone search, the number of integrations, photography, copywriting and any extra language version. For market context, read what website development costs.

How long does jewelry web development take?

Plan on twelve to eighteen weeks for an online store under 200 SKUs, six to eight for a showroom site and one to two for a launch page. In jewelry store website development, product data and photography usually decide the date.

What the jeweler needs to supply

A product list with metal, stone and weight data, photos or a plan for a shoot, policies for returns, resizing and repairs, and access to the domain, analytics and any point-of-sale system. We art-direct product shoots and can arrange the photographer.

Launch around the calendar

Holiday gifting and engagement season are the worst weeks to launch a new store. Aim to go live with time to fix problems before the busy months, and test checkout with real orders first.

Redesigning or replatforming a jewelry store without losing search traffic

Map every product, collection and image URL to its new home, keep product names stable, and move reviews and the merchant feed with the store. Most lost traffic after a replatform comes from missing redirects.

Products that have sold

Sold estate pieces and discontinued lines still collect links and searches. Keep the page with a sold note and links to similar pieces, or redirect it to the closest collection, rather than deleting it.

Images carry traffic too

Shoppers find jewelry through image search as well as text, so image URLs and alt text should move with care. Keep file names descriptive and redirect old image URLs where the platform allows it.

After launch

For the first month after a store goes live we check the Search Console Pages report every day, since a climb in 404 errors shows a redirect problem before sales do. See ecommerce website redesign services, website redesign services and what to do when traffic drops after a redesign.

How to choose a jewelry website design company

Good website design for jewelers starts with the catalog, so choose a partner that models it before designing, knows the FTC jewelry guides, leaves you owning the store and its data, and measures orders and appointments, not just visits.

What to ask a jewelry website designer, and how to verify the answer

Red flags

Watch for these in any proposal for web design for jewelry stores: a theme with jewelry photos dropped in, product pages with no space for specifications, a store registered in the agency’s name, and a quote given before anyone has seen the catalog.

Questions to ask

How will ring sizes be handled? Where does the lead time show? How are custom briefs and appointments delivered to staff? What happens to the store and its data if we part ways?

Mistakes that cost jewelry stores orders

Each of these appears on jewelry sites of every size, and each one is fixable before the next busy season.

  • Lab-grown stones described only as diamonds in the product name
  • Gold pieces listed without karat, or hollow pieces called solid
  • One photo on white with no sense of scale
  • Specifications only inside images, where search engines cannot read them
  • Ring sizes that sell out with no made-to-order option
  • Lead times revealed only after the order
  • Custom inquiries landing in an inbox nobody watches
  • No pages for repairs, resizing or appraisals
  • Sold estate pieces deleted instead of redirected
  • A store and domain registered to the agency

Frequently asked questions

What is web design for jewelers?
It is the work of planning, designing and building a jewelry business’s website, whether a store, designer, maker or custom jeweler: catalog structure, product templates, appointment and custom design flows, repair intake, checkout, policies, structured data and the merchant feed, built so pieces are found and sold online or booked for a visit.
Should a jewelry store sell online or only take appointments?
Usually both. Stocked pieces and gifts can check out online, while bridal, custom and high-value pieces convert better through a showroom or video appointment linked from the product page. Measure orders and booked appointments as separate conversions.
Is Shopify good for a jewelry website?
For most stores, yes. Shopify allows up to 2,048 variants and three options per product, which covers metal, size and stone choice on one listing, and supports images, video and 3D models. A store needing a fourth choice or live stone search may need a configurator or custom build.
What wording do lab-grown diamond product pages need?
With a clear and conspicuous qualifier such as laboratory-grown, laboratory-created or a manufacturer name followed by created, as the FTC’s jewelry guides require. Put the qualifier in the product name and the specification, not only in a footnote, and use the same wording in the feed.
Can I call a piece solid gold on my website?
Only if it has no hollow center, and the karat should come immediately before the word gold, as in 14 Karat Gold. The FTC’s guides say a hollow piece should not be described as solid even when the karat is correct.
What does vermeil mean on a product page?
Under the FTC’s guides, vermeil is sterling silver coated on all significant surfaces with gold or gold alloy of at least 10 karat, at least 2.5 microns thick. If a base metal layer such as nickel sits between the silver and the gold, that has to be disclosed.
Do gemstone treatments have to be disclosed online?
When a treatment may not be permanent, creates special care needs or significantly affects value, the FTC’s guides treat failing to disclose it as deceptive. Show the treatment in the specification and the care guide for that piece.
What is handmade jewelry website design?
It is a site built for a maker or studio: process and materials photos, made-to-order lead times, commissions and a shop the maker controls outside any marketplace. It sells the person behind the piece as much as the piece.
Can a handmade jewelry brand say Made in USA?
Only if final assembly and all significant processing happen in the US and all or virtually all components are made and sourced there, under the FTC’s labeling rule. A maker using imported stones or findings can say handmade in a named city instead.
What goes on a landing page for a jewelry launch or bridal event?
The collection or offer in the headline, six to twelve pieces with prices, event dates if any, proof such as reviews, and one clear action: add to cart or book an appointment. Our single landing page is from $1,400 and takes one to two weeks.
How much does a jewelry ecommerce website cost with Progression?
Our fixed-scope price for ecommerce under 200 SKUs is from $34,000 over 12 to 18 weeks, and ecommerce with ERP, PIM or fulfillment integration is from $78,000. A brochure site with appointment booking starts at $9,500. A quote follows a written scope.
What is a realistic timeline for a jeweler’s new online store?
A brochure site takes six to eight weeks and an ecommerce store under 200 SKUs twelve to eighteen on our price table. Product data and photography usually set the pace, so start gathering specifications and images early.
How should ring sizes be handled on a jewelry website?
List the sizes each piece is made in as variants, mark which sizes are made to order, and state the resizing terms on the product page. Say plainly when a design cannot be resized, so the buyer knows before ordering.
What product data does Google need for jewelry listings?
Merchant listing markup requires a product name, image and an offer with price and currency; Google recommends material, color, size, GTIN and brand. Free listings in Merchant Center also need return and shipping settings, and shipping setup is mandatory in the US.
Which schema type should a jewelry store use?
JewelryStore, which schema.org lists as a type of Store under LocalBusiness. Google’s local business guide asks for the most specific sub-type possible, with name and address required and phone, URL and opening hours recommended for the showroom.
How do I get my jewelry store recommended by ChatGPT or Gemini?
Publish specifications as text, honest stone and metal wording, service pages for repairs and custom work, and consistent store details everywhere. Products in Google’s free listings may show in Gemini, and Google says AI Overviews need nothing beyond being indexed and snippet-eligible.
How should I ship jewelry sold on my website?
Insured, tracked and signed for, with the method stated on the site. USPS says Registered Mail items can be insured for up to $50,000 at a Post Office, while Priority Mail Express includes up to $100. Compare private insurance options for higher values.
What is gold jewellery website design for international buyers?
It is a store set up for buyers who shop gold by karat or fineness and gram weight, often in India or the UK, with local spelling, currency and the hallmark details those buyers expect. India runs a mandatory hallmarking order for gold jewelry.
Do UK hallmarking rules matter to a US jewelry website?
They can if you sell into the UK. Under the Hallmarking Act 1973, articles are exempt only below 1 gram of gold, 7.78 grams of silver, 0.5 gram of platinum and 1 gram of palladium. Check how the rules apply to your pieces before listing them there.
Should jewelry websites show prices on engagement rings?
Show a price or a starting price for each setting and the price of the stone chosen, so the total updates as the buyer builds the ring. Buyers compare across stores, and a page with no figure gives them a reason to leave and gives assistants nothing to quote.
Do you build websites for small independent jewelry stores?
Yes. Many independent stores need a showroom site with appointment booking, repair pages and a small online catalog rather than a large store. Our 5 to 8 page brochure site starts at $9,500 and a restyle of an existing store at $4,800, while ecommerce under 200 SKUs starts at $34,000. Each quote follows a written scope.
Can a jewelry website connect to our point-of-sale system?
Often, if the point-of-sale system offers an integration or an API. Shared inventory stops one piece selling twice, once at the counter and once online. On our price table that work sits in the ecommerce with integrations tier, from $78,000, which covers links to ERP, PIM, POS or fulfillment systems and data migration.
Should a jeweler start with a website template or a custom design?
Start from the catalog. A template suits a maker with a small, simple range and a tight budget. Once you need full specifications, a ring builder, appointment flows or several sales channels, adapt it or replace it. Paying for custom design before the catalog model is settled is where most of the waste happens.
What does a jewelry website need after launch?
Platform and app updates, product uploads as stock changes, redirects or sold notes for pieces that have gone, a regular look at the merchant feed for disapproved items, and speed checks as new photos and video arrive. Hosting and maintenance are separate, optional services on our price table.
Will moving my jewelry store to a new platform hurt my traffic?
Not if every product, collection and image URL is mapped and redirected, product names stay stable and the merchant feed moves with the store. Keep pages for sold pieces or redirect them to the closest collection rather than deleting them.
