The short answerEsports marketing is audience building plus sponsorship: an organization grows a community that brands want to reach, then packages that reach into sponsor assets with proof. We build sponsorship decks and tiers, run content, social and creator programs, promote tournaments and handle PR, and we report reach, on-screen time, engagement, owned-channel growth and tracked conversions per asset. Campaigns target adults 18 and older (21 and older for alcohol), and carry clear disclosure. Our own social packages start at $850 a month and PR retainers at $2,500 a month; a first sponsorship program typically takes 8 to 12 weeks to build and pitch.
Rules, ratings and platform terms are described as published in October 2026 and can change; nothing on this page is legal advice. Prices marked as Progression’s own come from our published packages and retainers; other cost figures are published US price bands (market figures, not a Progression rate card); a quote follows a written scope.
What is esports marketing?
Esports marketing is the work of growing and engaging the audience around competitive gaming, and turning that audience into value for teams, leagues, events and sponsors. It mixes community management, content, streaming, events, PR and sponsorship.
Two buyers commission it. Organizations on the property side (teams, leagues, tournament organizers, venues) need fans and sponsors. Brands on the sponsor side need access to that audience and proof that it paid off. Game studios and publishers launching titles are a third buyer, covered by our video game marketing agency page.
How esports differs from traditional sports marketing
The audience watches on streaming platforms, talks in community servers and follows players as creators. Rights holders often include the game publisher, so what a team can sell depends on league and publisher rules. Our sports marketing agency page covers ticketed traditional sport.
How does esports help with marketing?
For a brand, esports offers a concentrated, digitally native adult audience that is hard to reach through television, plus content that fans choose to watch. For a team, marketing turns that attention into sponsor revenue and loyal fans.
An esports agency for both sides of the sponsorship
We work with the properties that sell sponsorships and the brands that buy them, never both sides of the same deal. Each side gets a plan built around what it needs to prove.
| Work | For teams, leagues and events | For sponsoring brands |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy | Audience positioning and sponsor categories to target | Which esports properties fit the brand’s buyers |
| Sponsorship | Inventory, tiers, deck and proposals | Rights evaluation, brief and negotiation support |
| Content | Clips, features, behind-the-scenes series | Branded content and integrations |
| Creators | Player and streamer content plans | Creator selection and briefs with disclosure |
| Events | Tournament promotion and registration | On-site and on-stream activation |
| PR | Announcements, signings, results | Launch of the partnership and story pitching |
| Measurement | Sponsor reports per asset | Return on the sponsorship against objectives |
Esports marketing for teams and organizations
Teams need a clear identity, steady content, an engaged community and sponsor reporting that makes renewals easy. We build all four and keep the calendar tied to the competitive season.
Esports marketing for brands
Brands need the right property, assets that fit their product and a way to prove results. We evaluate options, brief activations and measure them against the brand’s own funnel.
Leagues, circuits and college programs
Leagues need a season story and a partner program that works across teams. College esports programs bring campus partners and adult student players; we keep campaigns to adult audiences and campus rules.
How do esports sponsorships work?
An esports sponsorship is a contract in which a brand pays cash, products or both in return for defined rights: logo placement, content, creator appearances, event presence and data. The property delivers those assets and reports on them.
Esports sponsorships: what is actually sold
Rights are bundled into tiers: a title or naming partner at the top, official category partners below, and smaller supplier deals for equipment or services. Each tier lists deliverables, exclusivity and the reporting the sponsor receives.
Cash, product and revenue share
Smaller teams often start with product deals for peripherals, chairs or energy and food brands, then add cash as reporting improves. Some deals add affiliate codes so both sides share in tracked sales.
Publisher and league rules
Read the rulebook of every league and publisher circuit the team plays in for sponsor categories and broadcast placement before a package is pitched. We review those rules for each competition and adjust the inventory to match.
| Tier | Typical rights | Reporting the sponsor expects |
|---|---|---|
| Title or naming partner | Name in the team or event title, top logo position, exclusive category | Full monthly report and quarterly review |
| Official category partner | Apparel logo, stream and social mentions, content series | Monthly report per asset |
| Event partner | Stage, booth, signage and on-stream placement at one event | Post-event report within two weeks |
| Creator partner | Integrations on player or streamer channels | Per-video or per-stream metrics |
| Supplier or product partner | Product use and mentions in exchange for goods | Quarterly summary |
| Community partner | Server events, giveaways within platform rules, workshops | Participation and engagement figures |
Esports team sponsorship: how teams get sponsors
Esports teams get sponsors by proving an audience a brand wants, packaging it into clear assets and pitching brands whose buyers match it. Results and reporting win renewals; a strong first pitch wins the meeting.
How to get sponsors for an esports team
Start with data: who watches, where they live, their age range and what they engage with. Pick three sponsor categories that fit, build a short deck with real numbers, and approach local and endemic brands before national ones.
- Channel analytics for the last 90 days on every platform you stream or post on
- Audience age and location splits, with the share of viewers 18 and older
- Community size and activity in your server or forums
- Competitive results and the events you will play this season
- Three content examples a sponsor could put its name on
- A list of every asset you can sell, with format and frequency
- Current and past partners, with what you delivered for them
- League or publisher rules on sponsor categories and logo placement
- One named person who will service sponsors every week
Esports sponsors for small teams
Small teams win first sponsors with local businesses, gaming centers, peripheral and apparel makers, and services their fans use. A modest, well-reported deal is worth more than a big promise you cannot prove.
Sponsorship for esports teams that are growing
Mid-size organizations should separate inventory by tier, protect category exclusivity, add creator and content assets and hire or assign someone to sponsor service, because renewals depend on it.
Esports sponsorship application forms
Many brands run sponsorship application or request forms. Treat them like a proposal: fill every field with specific numbers, attach a one-page summary and follow up with a named contact.
Esports sponsorship proposal, deck and packages
A sponsorship deck introduces the property and its audience; a proposal tailors assets and price to one brand; packages are the standard tiers behind both. We build all three from the same audience data.
What goes in an esports sponsorship deck
Who you are in one slide, audience data by platform, age and location, competitive results, content examples, the inventory, tiers with deliverables, reporting samples and a single clear next step.
Esports sponsorship packages that sell
Packages work when every asset is concrete: number of posts, stream mentions, logo positions, creator videos, event days and the report schedule. Vague exposure promises lose to specific deliverables.
Writing an esports sponsorship proposal
A proposal should name the brand’s objective, show which of your fans match its buyers, recommend the tier that serves that objective and explain how success will be measured. Contracts are agreed between the parties and their counsel.
| Section | Question it answers | Evidence to include |
|---|---|---|
| Introduction | Who are you and why do fans care? | Short story, competitive record, community size |
| Audience | Who will the sponsor reach? | Platform analytics by age, location and device |
| Content | What will the audience see? | Example clips, series and creator content |
| Inventory | What can the sponsor buy? | Asset list with formats and frequency |
| Tiers | What does each level include? | Deliverables, exclusivity, term |
| Measurement | How will results be proven? | Sample report with metrics per asset |
| Next step | What happens now? | One contact and a proposed call date |
Esports sponsorship deals and renewals
Most esports sponsorship deals are won or lost at renewal. Send reports on time, flag under-delivery early and propose the next season’s plan before the sponsor starts budgeting.
Who sponsors esports, and which brands fit?
Esports sponsors fall into two broad types: endemic brands whose products are part of gaming, and non-endemic brands that want the audience. Both work when the activation fits how fans watch and play.
| Category | Endemic or non-endemic | Common activation |
|---|---|---|
| Peripherals and PC hardware | Endemic | Player use, product reviews, setup content |
| Gaming chairs and desks | Endemic | Studio and stream presence |
| Internet and telecom providers | Non-endemic | Performance messaging, event connectivity |
| Energy drinks and snacks | Non-endemic | Apparel, event sampling, creator content |
| Apparel and footwear | Non-endemic | Jersey collaborations, merchandise drops |
| Automotive | Non-endemic | Content series, event displays |
| Financial services and apps | Non-endemic | Adult-audience content, student offers within rules |
| Alcohol brands | Non-endemic | Only where audiences are 21 and older |
What brands sponsor esports most often
Hardware, peripherals, energy drinks, telecom, apparel and automotive brands are the familiar faces. Software and app companies follow, especially those selling to young adult professionals and students.
Endemic versus non-endemic sponsors
Endemic sponsors already understand the audience and want product credibility; non-endemic sponsors want reach into a new audience and need more help to activate credibly. Decks should speak to each differently.
Categories we keep out
Our esports programs exclude tobacco and nicotine sponsors and anything aimed at children, and betting as explained below. TikTok’s branded content policy also prohibits branded content for tobacco and nicotine products, weapons and weight loss products, and restricts alcohol.

Esports sponsorship opportunities for brands
A brand should buy the esports property whose adult audience matches its customers, then spend real budget activating it. The rights fee alone rarely delivers results.
Choosing a property
Compare teams, leagues and events on audience age and location, platform mix, content quality, reporting history and category rules. A smaller property with the right buyers beats a famous one with the wrong ones.
Activation: where results come from
Activation is what the brand does with its rights: content series, creator integrations, product use on stream, event experiences and offers. We plan it before the contract is signed so the rights include what the activation needs.
Esports sponsorship marketing beyond the logo
The best programs give fans something: tips from players, behind-the-scenes access, useful products, community events. Logo-only deals are easy to buy and hard to justify at renewal.
Esports tournament sponsorship and event promotion
Tournaments need players, viewers and sponsors at the same time. We promote registration and viewing, deliver sponsor assets on stream and on site, and report results within two weeks of the event.
How to market an esports tournament
Fix the format and dates early, open a clear landing page, recruit teams through communities and partners, confirm casters and creators, run paid social to adult audiences in the weeks before, and post daily during the event.
Esports tournament sponsorship packages
Event sponsors buy naming, stage and booth presence, overlays and segment sponsorships within the streaming platform’s rules, and social coverage. We price slots by visibility and deliver a proof pack afterward.
Online, LAN and hybrid events
Online events live on streams and community servers; LAN and arena events add tickets, venues and on-site sponsors. Our event marketing agency team supports the in-person side.
Creator and streamer programs with clear disclosure
Creators and streamers carry much of the esports audience. We recruit adult-audience creators, write briefs, approve content and make sure every paid or gifted mention is disclosed the way the FTC and each platform require.
What the FTC expects from creators
The FTC’s Disclosures 101 guide says creators must disclose any financial, employment, personal or family relationship with a brand, including free or discounted products. In a video the disclosure belongs in the video itself, and in a live stream it should be repeated periodically.
Brands are responsible too
Under the Endorsement Guides, advertisers can be liable for misleading endorsements even when the creator is not, and section 255.5 requires unexpected material connections to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. The FTC’s 2023 update covers virtual influencers and social media tags.
Platform disclosure settings
YouTube’s paid promotion setting adds a disclosure label at the start of a video, and TikTok requires its commercial content disclosure toggle on branded content. The FTC warns not to rely on platform tools alone, so briefs ask for both.
Choosing creators for adult audiences
We review each creator’s audience age data before a brief goes out, avoid channels whose viewers skew under 18, and keep alcohol integrations to creators whose audiences are verified 21 and older.
For broader creator programs outside esports, see our influencer marketing agency page.
Content, community and owned channels
Owned channels are what a team or league controls: its community server, social accounts, video channel, site and email list. They outlast any single season, sponsor or platform algorithm.
Community servers
Community servers are where fans talk between matches. Discord’s terms require users to be at least 13, so sponsor activations in community spaces are designed for adults and kept within the platform’s rules.
Clips, series and VODs
Short clips travel on social; series give sponsors a home; full VODs serve the core fans. Our YouTube marketing and TikTok ads teams handle each platform.
Esports SEO and the team website
Esports SEO helps fans, players and sponsors find the team, roster, schedule and partnership pages. A fast site with a clear sponsorship page turns search visits into sponsor inquiries.
An esports marketing strategy across a season
An esports marketing strategy plans content around the competitive calendar: pre-season signings, weekly match content, playoff pushes and off-season stories, with sponsor deliverables placed where attention peaks.
Gaming PR agency work for esports organizations
A gaming PR agency for esports handles announcements, signings, partnerships, results and issues, pitching gaming, business and local media. Earned coverage gives sponsors third-party proof that the property matters.
Esports PR agency services
Partnership launches, roster news, tournament announcements, founder and player interviews, award entries and a press page with current assets. Our public relations agency team runs the retainers.
Issues and reputation
Esports communities move fast and issues spread in hours. We prepare holding statements, approval paths and a plan for player conduct issues, supported by our crisis communications team.
Esports branding agency work
New teams and rebrands need a name, logo, jersey system and stream graphics that read on small screens. We cover that identity work with our branding agency team.
Esports consulting and esports consultancy
Esports consulting is advisory work: deciding whether and how to enter esports, which properties fit, how to structure a sponsorship program and how to measure it. An esports consultancy engagement ends with a plan your team can run or hand to us.
Esports consulting for brands
We size the opportunity against your adult customer base, shortlist properties, model activation budgets, draft the brief and set the measurement plan before money is committed.
Esports consulting for teams and leagues
We review audience data, inventory, pricing logic, sponsor service and the marketing calendar, then deliver an esports marketing plan with owners and dates.
Gaming consulting beyond esports
Gaming consulting for studios, publishers and launches sits with our studio and publisher team; this page stays with competitive gaming and its sponsors.
Adult audiences, age ratings and the rules we work inside
Esports audiences include teenagers, so we build every paid, creator and sponsor campaign for adults 18 and older, and for 21 and older where alcohol is involved. We do not direct marketing at children.
| Rule or standard | What it says | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| COPPA | Protects personal information of children under 13 | No campaigns or data collection directed at children |
| FTC Endorsement Guides | Material connections disclosed clearly and conspicuously | Disclosure written into every creator brief |
| Endorsement Guides, section 255.6 | Child-directed endorsements are of special concern | Creator channels screened for adult audiences |
| ESRB ratings | Teen 13 and up, Mature 17 and up, Adults Only 18 and up | Sponsor content matched to the game’s rating and audience |
| Spirits industry code | Ads where at least 73.8 percent of the audience is 21 or older | Alcohol work only on verified 21-plus audiences |
| Platform branded content rules | Disclosure settings and restricted categories | Settings on for every paid post; restricted categories cleared |
Children and COPPA
The FTC’s COPPA rule applies to services directed to children under 13 and to operators who knowingly collect their data. Section 255.6 of the Endorsement Guides adds that endorsements aimed at children may be of special concern. We stay out of child-directed work entirely.
Game ratings
The ESRB ratings guide rates games Teen for ages 13 and up, Mature for 17 and up and Adults Only for 18 and up. A sponsor’s message has to suit both the title’s rating and the adult audience we target.
Alcohol sponsors
The spirits industry’s advertising code has asked since May 2023 that ads run only where at least 73.8 percent of the audience is reasonably expected to be 21 or older. We apply that line to esports placements and creator choices.
No betting promotion
Our esports work does not include betting, sportsbook or real-money gaming promotion, and we do not place gambling offers in team, event or creator content. Nothing on this page is legal advice.
How to measure an esports sponsorship
Measure each asset against the objective the sponsor set: reach for awareness, engagement for consideration, tracked codes and sign-ups for sales. A single blended total hides what worked.
| Metric | How it is captured | What it proves |
|---|---|---|
| Stream and video views | Platform analytics for each broadcast and clip | Reach of the sponsored content |
| On-screen logo time | Review of broadcasts and VODs | Visibility of apparel and overlay assets |
| Social engagement | Platform analytics per sponsored post | Whether fans responded |
| Creator performance | Views, clicks and comments per integration | Which creators deliver |
| Owned-channel growth | Follower and community counts over the term | Whether the property is growing |
| Tracked conversions | Codes, links and landing pages | Sales or sign-ups the sponsor can count |
| Brand lift | Surveys of exposed and unexposed adult fans | Change in awareness or preference |
How do esports sponsors make money?
Sponsors earn their return through sales from codes and links, new customers who first met the brand in esports, product feedback from players, content they can reuse and stronger standing with a hard-to-reach adult audience.
Reports that win renewals
Monthly reports show each asset delivered, the numbers behind it, screenshots and what changes next month. Quarterly reviews connect results to the sponsor’s own sales data.

How esports organizations make money
Esports organizations make money from sponsorships, content and streaming, merchandise, prize winnings, events and, in some leagues, shared league revenue. For most teams, sponsorship is the largest and most controllable stream.
| Revenue stream | How it works | Marketing that grows it |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsorship | Brands pay for rights and assets | Audience data, decks, activation, reporting |
| Content and streaming | Platform revenue, subscriptions and content deals | Clips, series and creator schedules |
| Merchandise | Jerseys, apparel and collaborations | Drops timed to the season and to sponsor launches |
| Prize winnings | Tournament results | Results content and PR |
| Events and tickets | Watch parties, LANs and hosted events | Event promotion and local partners |
| League revenue | Shares of league income where a league offers them | Team brand within the league story |
Why sponsorship leads
Prize money depends on results and platform revenue on algorithms. Sponsorship can be planned, sold and renewed, which is why marketing spend on a team usually aims at sponsors first.
AI answers: how sponsors and teams ask assistants about esports
Brands ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Google AI Overviews how esports sponsorship works, which teams fit their audience and which agencies can help. Teams ask how to find sponsors. Assistants answer from pages they can read.
What people ask
Typical prompts: how much does it cost to sponsor an esports team, who sponsors esports teams, how to write an esports sponsorship proposal, and which agencies help brands enter esports.
What the assistants tend to cite
Clear explainer pages, team partnership pages with audience facts, league and publisher pages, press coverage of partnerships and consistent profiles. A team with no public partnership page is hard for an assistant to recommend.
What a team or event should publish
A partnership page with audience data, current partners and inventory; a press page; roster and schedule pages; and a short FAQ. Google’s AI features guidance says normal indexing is all AI Overviews require, so plain, crawlable pages win.
How much does esports marketing cost?
Progression’s own social packages run $850, $1,850 and $3,400 a month, and our PR retainers $2,500 to $12,000 a month. Paid media management sits at $2,000 to $10,000 a month on published US price bands (market figures, not a Progression rate card).
| Service | Price | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Community program, one platform | $850 a month | Progression’s own social package |
| Community program, two platforms | $1,850 a month | Progression’s own social package |
| Community with video and paid | $3,400 a month | Progression’s own social package |
| PR retainer | $2,500, $4,500, $7,500 or $12,000 a month | Progression’s own PR retainers |
| PR project, such as a partnership launch | From $4,000 | Progression’s own PR project work |
| Paid media management | $2,000 to $10,000 a month | Published US price band, market figure |
| Micro creator post | $150 to $1,200 each | Published US price band, market figure |
| Mid-tier creator post | $1,500 to $8,000 each | Published US price band, market figure |
| Team or event landing page | From $1,400 | Progression’s own fixed-scope website price |
How much does it cost to sponsor an esports team?
There is no public price list. Deals range from product-only supplier agreements for small teams to multi-year title partnerships for major organizations. Price follows audience size and fit, the assets included, exclusivity and the term.
How much do esports sponsors pay?
Sponsors pay a rights fee plus activation costs, which are budgeted separately. Plan for content, creators, event presence and measurement on top of the fee, because rights without activation rarely show results.
What moves our quote
The number of channels and platforms, the volume of content, creator fees, event days, languages and reporting depth. Ad spend and creator fees are billed separately, and the quote follows a written scope.
How to choose an esports marketing company
Choose an esports marketing company that shows audience data before it talks price, targets adults by design, writes disclosure into every brief and reports per asset. Ask for sample reports and decks.
| Requirement | How to check it |
|---|---|
| Audience data first | Ask how they would audit your audience before pricing anything |
| Adult-audience targeting | Ask how they verify creator and ad audiences are 18 and older |
| Disclosure discipline | Ask for a sample creator brief |
| Per-asset reporting | Ask for a sample sponsor report |
| Knowledge of league rules | Ask how they check category and broadcast restrictions |
| Season planning | Ask for a calendar built around competition dates |
| Ownership | Confirm decks, data, accounts and assets are yours |
| Category screening | Ask which sponsor categories they decline and why |
Red flags
Guaranteed sponsor numbers, follower counts with no audience breakdown, no disclosure plan, willingness to target teenagers for adult products and reporting that only shows one total.
