Gen Z Marketing Agency

Updated October 2026 · Written and maintained by the Progression Agency strategy team

A Gen Z marketing agency plans and runs marketing aimed at adults in Generation Z, the cohort Pew Research Center counts from birth year 1997 onward: audience research, short-form creative, creator partnerships, community management and paid media, judged on sales and repeat buyers rather than views. It is for consumer brands, direct-to-consumer companies, retailers, apps, entertainment and service businesses that need customers in their twenties. Progression Agency is based in New York City and works with clients across the United States and worldwide.

The short answerGen Z marketing reaches adults born from 1997 onward, who in 2026 are roughly 18 to 29, where they already spend time: YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and Reddit. The work is research, a steady flow of native short video, vetted and disclosed creators, a community that gets answers fast and paid support for the posts that prove themselves. It is measured in sales, second purchases and lift tests. Early creative learnings arrive within weeks; a program that sells reliably usually takes two to three months of testing. Our social media packages start at $850 a month.

Platform rules and survey figures are described as published in October 2026 and can change. Package prices are Progression’s own published figures; the management and creator ranges are published US price bands (market figures, not a Progression rate card). A quote follows a written scope.

What is Gen Z marketing?

Gen Z marketing is marketing designed for how adults born from 1997 onward discover, judge and buy: through video, creators, search inside social apps and the opinions of people like them. It is an audience discipline that runs across channels, not a single channel.

Who counts as Gen Z

Pew Research Center defines millennials as born from 1981 to 1996 and treats anyone born in 1997 or later as part of the next generation, without a fixed end year. Our work covers the adult part of that cohort only, roughly ages 18 to 29 in 2026.

Generation marketing for Gen Z and millennials

Generation marketing means planning by the habits a cohort shares, then checking those assumptions against your own buyers. Age is a starting point; the brief is built from what your customers actually watch, search and say.

Zoomer marketing and other labels

Zoomer marketing, youth marketing and marketing for Gen Z describe the same job. What matters is whether the provider can show how it researches the audience and how it measures sales.

What a Gen Z marketing agency does

It turns research into a stream of creative that fits each platform, finds creators whose audiences match yours, keeps a community answered and puts paid budget behind what already works. Then it reports sales, not reach.

Research: Audience research. Interviews, comments, search data.
Creative: Short-form video. Made for each platform.
Creators: Creator partnerships. Vetted, contracted, disclosed.
Community: Comments and channels. Answered by real people.
Paid: Paid social and search. Spark, partnership ads, YouTube.
Proof: Measurement. Sales, repeat buyers, lift tests.

Gen Z creative agency or Gen Z digital marketing agency?

A creative-only shop makes content; a digital marketing agency runs channels. Gen Z work needs both in one loop, because the creative that tests best is what the paid budget should follow.

Who hires a Gen Z marketing company

Consumer brands whose customers are aging, new brands built for people in their twenties, apps, fashion and beauty labels, entertainment and live events, and services such as banking or travel that want customers early.

Where adult Gen Z spends time: the platform picture

Video platforms come first. Pew Research Center’s 2026 social media fact sheet finds that 95 percent of US adults ages 18 to 29 use YouTube, 79 percent use Instagram, 65 percent use TikTok and 56 percent use Snapchat.

Facebook is not dead for this audience

The same Pew data shows 69 percent of adults ages 18 to 29 use Facebook. It is rarely where they discover brands, but it still carries events, marketplace listings and community pages, so we do not drop it by reflex.

Two platforms done well beat five done badly

We choose the two or three platforms where your buyers are and where the brand can publish often enough to learn. The rest wait until the first ones sell.

How to market to Gen Z: generation Z marketing strategies that hold up

Show the product working, let real people do the talking, publish often, reply fast and state the price. Those habits sit under every gen z marketing strategy we run, whatever the category.

Proof: Show it working. Demos beat claims.
People: Faces over logos. Staff, founders, creators.
Price: Value stated plainly. No hidden costs at checkout.
Speed: Reply in hours. Comments and messages.
Fit: Native to the feed. Vertical, captioned, fast.
Honesty: Disclose every deal. Ad labels on paid posts.

Proof over polish

A phone video of the product doing its job, a side-by-side test or a creator using it in their real routine usually outperforms a studio spot. Polish is not banned; it just has to earn its place in testing.

Volume and testing

One campaign a quarter cannot keep up with feeds that refresh constantly. We plan several new videos a month, each testing one variable such as the hook, the person on screen or the offer.

Search inside social apps

Younger adults look things up on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram as well as Google. Captions, on-screen text and spoken words that name the product and the problem help those posts surface for searches; our Instagram SEO guide covers the detail.

A voice that sounds like people

Write the way your best customers talk, not the way a press release reads. Borrowed slang that the brand cannot sustain lands worse than plain, warm language.

Best way to market to Gen Z on a small budget

Pick one platform, post short videos several times a week, work with a few small creators whose audiences match yours, answer every comment and boost only the posts that already perform. Our social media marketing page covers the organic method in depth.

A Gen Z marketing strategy checklist

Before any campaign goes live we check the plan against this list. A missing item usually explains a campaign that gets views and no sales.

  • Research notes in the buyer’s own words, not assumptions about a generation
  • Two or three platforms chosen, with a reason for each
  • Several new videos planned each month, each testing one variable
  • Creators vetted for audience age, location and real engagement
  • Disclosure written into every creator brief and contract
  • Someone named to reply to comments and messages within hours
  • Prices, shipping and returns stated before checkout
  • Every claim backed by something the brand can show
  • Tracking that ties spend to sales and second purchases
  • A lift test planned before the budget grows

Gen Z advertising: does Gen Z hate ads?

No. Younger adults skip ads that look like ads and interrupt, and they watch ads that look like the content around them. Gen Z advertising works when the ad is worth watching on its own.

What kind of marketing does Gen Z like?

Marketing that is useful, entertaining or honest, and ideally all three: tutorials, real reviews, behind-the-scenes clips, creators they already follow and brands that answer questions in the comments.

Ad formats built from organic posts

TikTok’s Spark Ads boost organic posts from the brand’s own account or from creators who authorize them, with engagement counted on the original post. Instagram’s partnership ads let a brand run ads from content made with a creator, with the creator’s permission. Both keep the post looking native.

How to advertise to Gen Z without wearing them out

Rotate creative before it tires, cap frequency on smaller audiences and retire ads whose hook rate drops. A steady supply of new videos is the real budget line in paid social.

How to market to Gen Z on social media without repeating the channel playbooks

Set the audience strategy here and run each channel by its own rules. Our channel teams handle the mechanics; this page decides what the brand says, to whom and how it is judged.

Organic and paid in one loop

Organic posts are the test kitchen. The ones that earn watch time, saves and clicks move into paid, and paid results tell the creative team what to make next. Our social media advertising page covers the paid side.

Gen Z social media marketing for direct-to-consumer brands

For brands selling online, the loop ends at the product page and the second order. Our DTC marketing agency joins acquisition, retention and email so younger buyers come back.

Video at the center

Most of this audience’s attention goes to video. Our video marketing agency and YouTube team plan formats that work as organic posts and as ads.

Gen Z influencer marketing: creators, UGC and the disclosure rules

Creators are the most trusted voice in most Gen Z categories, and the riskiest one if a deal is hidden or an audience is fake. We vet audiences, write clear contracts and make disclosure part of the brief.

Audience fit before follower count

We check where a creator’s audience lives, how old it is, whether engagement is real and whether past posts clash with the brand. Small creators with the right audience often sell more than large ones with the wrong one.

Disclosure, every time

The FTC’s guidance for influencers says to disclose any financial, employment, personal or family relationship with a brand, place the disclosure where it is hard to miss, put it in the video itself rather than only the description, and repeat it during live streams. It also warns not to rely on a platform’s tool alone. YouTube adds a paid promotion label when creators tick the branded content box.

No bought followers or reviews

The FTC’s rule on consumer reviews bars buying fake indicators of social media influence to misrepresent influence for a commercial purpose, and bars incentives tied to a review’s sentiment. Our creator contracts pay for content and usage, never for praise.

These are published US price bands (market figures, not a Progression rate card). Creator sourcing at scale runs through our influencer marketing agency, and the influencer marketing guide explains contracts and usage rights.

Community: where brand loyalty is actually built

A brand that answers questions in the comments, in messages and in the places its buyers gather earns repeat customers. A brand that only broadcasts gets scrolled past.

Comments and messages as a service channel

Replies within hours, in a human voice, with real answers. Questions that come up often become the next video, which closes the loop between community and creative.

Owned spaces

Broadcast channels, a Discord server or a members list suit brands with a fan base that wants to talk to each other. They need a person to run them; an empty server does more harm than none.

Experiences people can attend

Pop-ups, campus-adjacent events for adult students and creator meetups turn followers into customers. Our experiential marketing agency plans the live side.

Values, claims and trust

Gen Z brand marketing rests on proof: younger adults check claims quickly and share what they find. Say only what the brand can prove, show how it does it and keep the tone consistent with how the company actually behaves.

Environmental claims

The FTC’s Green Guides say marketers should not make unqualified general environmental benefit claims such as calling a product green or eco-friendly without qualification. We write specific, provable claims instead, and leave legal review to your counsel.

Causes and social positions

A cause the company supports in practice can be part of the story. A cause adopted for a campaign is usually spotted, so we advise against it.

Price and value

State the price, the shipping and the return policy early. Surprises at checkout lose buyers who compare everything on their phones.

Gen Z marketing examples: campaign patterns that keep working

The best Gen Z marketing campaigns share a few patterns more than any single idea. These are the patterns we build from; the specific idea always comes from your own research.

Gen Z advertising examples that travel across platforms

A demo video can run as a TikTok Spark Ad, an Instagram partnership ad and a YouTube Short with only the captions and length changed. Patterns that need a single platform’s feature, such as an AR lens, stay where they work.

How Gen Z is changing marketing

Brands now plan for creators as a channel, treat social apps as search engines and judge creative by how many seconds it holds people. Those shifts reach every audience, but they started with this one.

Marketing to Gen Z vs millennials

Millennials, born 1981 to 1996 under Pew’s definition, grew up as social media arrived; Gen Z adults grew up with it already everywhere. The difference shows less in values than in format, discovery and patience with anything that wastes time.

Check grid of seven tactics showing where we lead for Gen Z and for millennials: short video, creators and social search lead for Gen Z; email, loyalty and feed ads lead for millennials; comparison content and clear prices matter for both.Check grid of seven tactics showing where we lead for Gen Z and for millennials: short video, creators and social search lead for Gen Z; email, loyalty and feed ads lead for millennials; comparison content and clear prices matter for both.

Marketing to millennials alongside Gen Z

Many brands sell to both. We run one audience strategy with separate creative and offers, because a 24-year-old renting a first apartment and a 40-year-old with children buy the same product for different reasons.

When a millennial marketing agency is the better fit

If most of your revenue comes from customers over 30, start there and add Gen Z as a test. Chasing a younger audience at the expense of the one that pays the bills is a common and avoidable mistake.

AI answers: how Gen Z buyers ask assistants for brands

Younger adults increasingly ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google’s AI Overviews what to buy, which brand is worth it and what people say about a product. Pew’s news platform fact sheet found 17 percent of US adults ages 18 to 29 get news from AI chatbots at least sometimes in 2026, alongside 75 percent from social media.

Bar chart of the share of US adults ages 18 to 29 who get news from each source often or sometimes in 2026: social media 75 percent, search 72, news websites or apps 59, television 46, podcasts 37, email newsletters 32, radio 28, AI chatbots 17 and print 14.Bar chart of the share of US adults ages 18 to 29 who get news from each source often or sometimes in 2026: social media 75 percent, search 72, news websites or apps 59, television 46, podcasts 37, email newsletters 32, radio 28, AI chatbots 17 and print 14.

What the prompts look like

Prompts such as “best budget skincare brand for oily skin”, “is this sneaker brand worth it” or “what do people on Reddit say about this app” ask for comparisons and real opinions, not slogans.

What assistants tend to cite

Product pages with clear specifications and prices, comparison and review articles, Reddit and forum threads, YouTube reviews, retailer listings and the brand’s own help pages. Brands with honest, detailed pages and plenty of independent discussion are easier to name.

What the brand should publish

Plain product facts, prices, comparison pages that are fair to competitors, an FAQ that answers what the comments ask, and creator and customer content that lives on public pages. Our answer engine optimization agency builds this layer, and AEO for Instagram covers the social side.

How do we measure Gen Z engagement and sales?

We measure whether the program creates customers: sales by channel, second purchases, new versus returning buyers and lift tests. Engagement metrics are diagnostic, used to improve creative, never the headline.

Sales: Revenue by channel. Not views or likes.
Repeat: Second purchase rate. Retention beats reach.
Lift: Incrementality tests. Holdouts by region or audience.
Survey: How did you hear about us?. Post-purchase, one question.
Search: Branded search growth. Interest that outlasts the ad.
Creative: Hook and hold rates. Which openings keep viewers.

Why views are not the goal

A video can reach millions and sell nothing. We keep views in the report as context and judge creative by what it does to sales and to the second order.

Measurement setup across channels runs through our marketing analytics agency; testing on the store itself runs through conversion rate optimization.

Audience boundaries we keep

Our Gen Z work targets adults only, 18 and over. Where a product or a platform setting could reach younger people, we narrow the audience and the creative to adults, and we do not take on categories built around underage audiences.

Products sold only to older adults

Age-restricted products are kept out of Gen Z campaigns, because the youngest adults in the cohort can be below the legal age for them. We say so at the proposal stage rather than after the brief.

Data and privacy

We use platform audiences, first-party customer data with consent and contextual targeting. Personal data is handled under the brand’s privacy policy, and accounts and pixels stay in the brand’s name.

Gen Z ad agency, consultant or in-house?

A Gen Z consulting engagement suits a brand with a content team that needs direction. A Gen Z advertising agency, or a full-service team like ours, suits a brand that needs research, creative, creators and paid media run together. In-house works once the playbook is proven and the volume justifies a team.

Red flags

Promises of virality, reports built on views, creator rosters nobody has vetted, no plan for disclosure and a pitch that uses slang instead of research.

What drives the cost

Creative volume more than anything: how many new videos, creators and variations the program needs each month. The number of platforms and the paid budget come next.

Ad spend and creator fees

Media is paid to the platforms and creator fees to the creators, both on top of the management fee. Our social media marketing pricing page and the marketing agency pricing guide explain each line.

How a Gen Z marketing program runs in the first 90 days

Research and setup take the first two to three weeks, creative and creator tests run through the second month, and the third month moves budget behind what sold. Learnings start arriving in week four.

Frequently asked questions

What is the job of a Gen Z marketing agency?
A Gen Z marketing agency researches how adults born from 1997 onward discover and judge your category, then runs short-form creative, creator partnerships, community management and paid social built for them. A good one reports in sales, second purchases and lift tests, and keeps every account, pixel and creator contract in the brand’s name.
What does Gen Z marketing mean for a consumer brand?
Gen Z marketing is marketing planned around the habits of adults born from 1997 onward: video first, creators as trusted voices, search inside social apps and quick judgment of anything that feels like a pitch. It runs across platforms and is judged on whether it creates customers who come back.
How do you market to Gen Z?
Research what your buyers watch and say, choose two or three platforms where they already are, publish native short video often, work with creators whose audiences match yours, answer every comment quickly and put paid budget behind posts that already perform. Then judge it on sales and repeat purchases, not views.
How do you advertise to Gen Z?
Make ads that look like the content around them: vertical, captioned, fast to the point and often fronted by a person rather than a logo. Boost proven organic and creator posts with formats such as TikTok Spark Ads or Instagram partnership ads, rotate creative before it tires and cap frequency on small audiences.
Does Gen Z hate ads?
Not ads as such. Younger adults skip ads that interrupt and feel like a pitch, and they watch ads that entertain, teach or show a product honestly. Creator-led and demo-style ads tend to hold attention, and clear disclosure of paid deals keeps trust intact.
What kind of marketing does Gen Z like?
Useful, entertaining and honest marketing: tutorials, real reviews, behind-the-scenes clips, creators they already follow and brands that answer questions in the comments. Clear prices and claims a buyer can check matter as much as the creative itself.
What works when marketing to Gen Z on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube?
Treat each platform on its own terms: short video on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, search-friendly captions, creators for proof and fast replies in comments and messages. Use organic posts to test ideas and paid support to scale the winners, and keep the brand voice plain and consistent.
Why is marketing to Gen Z important?
Adult Gen Z is building its brand habits now, across first jobs, first apartments and first big purchases. Brands that earn their trust early can keep them for years, while brands that ignore them age with their current customers and pay more to win younger buyers later.
How is marketing to Gen Z different from marketing to millennials?
Both value honesty and convenience. Gen Z adults lean harder on short video, creators and social search for discovery, while millennials respond more to email, loyalty programs and feed ads. Many brands sell to both with one strategy and separate creative and offers for each.
Which platforms work best for reaching Gen Z adults?
Usually YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, followed by Snapchat and Reddit. Pew Research Center’s 2026 data shows most US adults ages 18 to 29 use YouTube and Instagram and about two thirds use TikTok. The right two or three depend on your category and on what the brand can publish often.
How do we measure Gen Z marketing results?
Measure sales by channel, second purchase rate, incremental lift from holdout tests and a one-question post-purchase survey. Use hook rates, watch time and comments to improve creative, but do not treat views or likes as the result the program is judged on.
What budget does a brand need to hire a Gen Z marketing agency?
Our published social media packages are $850, $1,850 and $3,400 a month, with ad spend, creator fees and extra production on top. Across the US market, short-form video management commonly runs $1,500 to $5,000 a month. A quote follows a written scope of platforms, creative volume and creators.
Is TikTok enough to reach Gen Z?
Rarely on its own. TikTok is strong for discovery, but YouTube and Instagram reach even more adults ages 18 to 29, and many buyers check reviews on YouTube or Reddit before purchasing. Most programs pair TikTok with one or two other platforms and a search presence.
Does Gen Z still use Facebook?
Many do. Pew Research Center’s 2026 fact sheet shows 69 percent of US adults ages 18 to 29 use Facebook, though it is seldom where they discover new brands. It still matters for events, marketplace listings and community pages, so we keep it in view.
Do Gen Z buyers trust influencers?
They trust creators whose recommendations feel earned: people who use the product, disclose the deal and are honest about flaws. Trust drops fast when a creator promotes everything or hides payment. Audience fit and honesty matter more than follower count.
How do creator disclosures work in a Gen Z campaign?
Every paid or gifted post carries a clear label such as ad or sponsored, placed where viewers will see it and inside the video itself, not only in the caption, in line with FTC guidance. We also use platform labels such as YouTube’s paid promotion setting and build disclosure into every creator contract.
Should our brand use memes and Gen Z slang?
Only if it fits how the brand already talks and someone on the team understands the references. Borrowed slang ages quickly and reads as forced. Plain, warm, specific language and a sense of humor that matches the product usually work better than chasing trends.
Can B2B companies market to Gen Z?
Yes, especially for recruiting and for software that young professionals choose themselves. LinkedIn, YouTube and short-form video showing real people at work tend to carry this. Our B2B social media team plans the professional side and this audience work shapes the tone.
How long does a Gen Z marketing campaign take to show results?
Creative learnings usually appear within the first month of testing, as hook rates and early clicks separate winners from losers. Dependable sales, with paid budget behind proven posts and creators, typically take two to three months. Repeat purchase data takes longer because it needs a second order.
Do you produce the creative and source creators?
Yes. We write and edit short-form video, brief and manage creators, and handle contracts, usage rights and disclosure. Larger shoots and bigger creator deals are scoped separately, and every asset and contract stays with the brand.
Can you help a brand that wants to reach Gen Z and millennials at once?
Yes. We build one audience strategy with shared research and measurement, then separate creative, offers and channel weight for each cohort. The split usually shows within a few weeks of testing and decides where the budget goes next.
Will you run a Gen Z program for a brand based outside New York?
Yes. Progression Agency is based in New York City and works with brands across the United States and worldwide. Creative reviews, creator management and reporting run online, so the brand’s location does not change how the program is delivered.
