Astrology App Development Company: Horoscope, Birth Chart and Astrologer Consultation Apps for Founders

Updated October 2026 · Written and maintained by the Progression Agency strategy team

An astrology app development company builds horoscope, birth chart, compatibility and astrologer consultation apps, along with the chart calculation, payments and content tools behind them. We build astrology apps for founders, media brands, and wellness and dating products adding astrology features: iOS and Android apps, the astrologer app and admin panel a marketplace needs, an astrology API layer for chart math, and an AI astrologer assistant with clear limits. We present astrology as entertainment. The apps we build make no predictive, health or financial claims, and they are built for adult users.

The short answerA chart or horoscope product has four layers: a calculation layer that turns birth details into a chart, content that explains it, payments, and in a marketplace the astrologer side. The calculation layer needs a licensing decision before launch, and the store rules for digital content, saturated categories and live sessions shape the business model. Every reading is framed as entertainment, AI-generated text is labeled, and the product is for adults. Builds are quoted after a written scope, in phases, with one loop live first.

Prices are labeled US market bands read on October 28, 2026, and Progression quotes after a written scope. Store, license and privacy details were read on official pages on that date and may change. Astrology is presented as entertainment. General information, not legal advice.

What does an astrology app development company build?

It builds the software around a chart or a horoscope: the user-facing app, the calculation service, the payment and subscription flows, and for marketplaces the astrologer app and admin panel. The common thread is turning a birth moment into something a person enjoys reading.

Four product models: daily content, birth chart, compatibility and consultation marketplaces

Products usually start from one of four models. A daily content product publishes sign-based or chart-based readings every day. A birth chart product calculates a personal chart and explains it. A compatibility product compares two charts in a light, shareable way. A consultation marketplace connects users with astrologers for chat, call or video. Related products such as tarot, kundli and numerology share the same plumbing, but each has its own content and rules.

Who builds these products: founders, media brands, wellness and dating products

Clients are businesses: founders launching a new product, media brands adding a service, and wellness or dating products that want a chart feature. The people using what we build are adults, and we do not design for children or teenagers.

The builds that come up most

Six kinds of builds cover most requests. Each card is a typical starting point, not a fixed package.

Daily: Daily horoscope apps. Sign-based or chart-based content with an editorial workflow and notifications the user chooses.
Charts: Birth chart apps. Birth details in, a calculated chart out, with plain explanations.
Match: Compatibility tools. Two charts compared in a light, shareable format.
Book: Consultation marketplaces. Astrologer profiles, booking, live sessions, wallet and payouts.
Assist: AI astrologer features. A labeled assistant that explains a chart and hands off to people.
Admin: Admin and content panels. Calendar, astrologer approvals, refunds and reports.

Entertainment framing from the first screen

Onboarding copy, reading screens and consultation rooms should all say that astrology is offered for entertainment. The product makes no claim about fate, health or money, and no screen should suggest otherwise. The section on disclaimers below covers wording and placement.

How do horoscope and chart apps work?

They take a person’s birth date, time and place, calculate where planets sat at that moment, and present the result as a chart with explanations. The math is standard astronomy, and the interpretation is editorial content.

Birth details in, chart out: date, time and place

The user types a birthplace, which the app converts to coordinates. The local birth time becomes UTC using the offset that applied at that place on that date. A calculation layer then returns planetary positions, houses and aspects. Show the user the inputs and let them correct a typo.

Flow chart of five steps from birth details to a reading: birthplace geocoded, local time converted to UTC, positions and houses calculated, chart stored and the reading shown with an entertainment label.Flow chart of five steps from birth details to a reading: birthplace geocoded, local time converted to UTC, positions and houses calculated, chart stored and the reading shown with an entertainment label.
The label comes with every reading. Readers should always see whether text was written by an editor or generated.

Historical time zones and daylight saving

Offsets change with politics. The IANA Time Zone Database holds code and data representing the history of local time for many locations and is updated when governments change boundaries, UTC offsets or daylight-saving rules, as read on October 28, 2026. A chart built with the wrong offset can place planets in the wrong houses, so use the database rather than a fixed offset table.

Content, notifications and the daily return visit

Calculation brings a user in once. Content brings them back. A daily reading, a short note on the current sky or a prompt to compare a friend’s chart gives a reason to return, and user-chosen notification times keep it welcome.

Astrology app development: the apps in the set

A full product is usually three apps and a service: a user app, an astrologer app for marketplaces, an admin and content panel, and the calculation layer behind them. A first release often ships only the first.

The user app

The user app holds the profile, saved charts, daily content, purchases and, for marketplaces, booking and sessions. It should work with a short sign-up, collect only the birth data it needs and let the user delete everything from inside the app.

The astrologer app for consultation marketplaces

An astrologer logs in to set availability, accept sessions, chat or talk, and see earnings. Astrology consultation app development also covers identity checks, profiles and payout setup. A weak astrologer app makes supply unreliable, and that damages the whole marketplace.

The admin and content panel

Staff need a content calendar, astrologer approvals, refund handling and reports. Build this panel early in the project, because without it every change becomes a developer task. Our UI and UX design team shapes both the panel and the app.

Horoscope app development for content-led products

Horoscope app development leans on an editorial workflow: writers draft sign-based or chart-based text, an editor reviews it, and a scheduler publishes it. Add a banned topics list and a reporting tool so readers can flag text that crosses a line.

Feature list by model: user app, astrologer app and admin panel

Features follow the model. A content product needs a calendar and notifications, a chart product needs a calculation layer, and a marketplace needs profiles, live sessions and a wallet. Everything else can wait.

Feature table for the user app, astrologer app and admin panel

The table lists plain feature names by app. It is a starting point for a scope conversation, not a promise of what every product needs.

What goes in a first release

Pick one core loop. For a chart product it is enter details, see a chart, read an explanation. For a marketplace it is browse, book, talk and review. Ship that loop well and measure whether adults return before you add anything else.

Features to leave for later

A store, a community feed, extra languages and extra chart types can all wait. Each adds content, support or moderation work, and none is needed to learn whether people want the core loop.

The astrology API: calculating charts

An astrology API is a service that returns planetary positions, houses and aspects for a birth moment and place. Using one saves calculation work, and building your own gives control over cost, speed and licensing.

What is an astrology API?

A request sends date, time and coordinates and receives positions and houses in JSON. Some services specialize in a birth chart API, a zodiac API or a horoscope API that returns ready-made text, and others expose only the numbers. Know which kind you are buying, because ready-made text carries someone else’s editorial voice.

Ephemeris libraries and their licenses

An ephemeris is the table of planetary positions that calculations depend on, and an ephemeris API wraps one. The Swiss Ephemeris, as described on astro.com and read on October 28, 2026, is dual licensed: a developer must choose the AGPL or the Swiss Ephemeris Professional License before distributing software that contains it or activating a public service. The AGPL requires placing the whole project under the AGPL or a compatible license. Your counsel reviews the license before you pick one.

Choosing an astrology API: accuracy, house systems, latency and cost per call

Check which house systems are offered, test results against charts you know are right, measure response time from your servers and add up cost at your expected volume. Cache charts so a returning user never triggers a new call. We name no vendors here because the right choice depends on your volume and terms.

Running your own calculation service

A service of your own makes sense when call volume would make per-call fees costly, when license terms favor it or when you need control over speed. It is a small backend service with tests against known charts. Our API development page covers how we build and document such interfaces.

AI astrologer app features

An AI astrologer explains a chart in conversation. It should never calculate the chart, never claim to know the future and always say that its text is generated. Humans stay available for anything the AI refuses.

Can AI read a birth chart?

It can explain one. The calculation layer computes positions and houses, and the language model turns those numbers into readable text. Letting a model compute positions itself invites errors. This design also matches how an astrology chatbot should behave: it quotes the chart it was given.

Guardrails: no health, financial or fate claims

Write refusal rules for questions about medical conditions, legal trouble, money decisions, pregnancy, death and harm in relationships. When a user asks, the assistant says it cannot help with that, points to appropriate professional help where fitting and offers entertainment content instead.

How do users know a reading is generated?

Label AI text in the chat and in saved readings, for example “Generated reading, for entertainment.” The label should be visible without scrolling and should stay on any copy the user shares. People deserve to know what wrote what they are reading.

Handing off to a human astrologer

Offer a handoff when a user asks for a person or when the AI reaches a topic it must refuse. The handoff leads to a booking flow, not an open chat with anyone. Our AI app development and AI chatbot development pages cover the general approach.

Astrology consultation apps: chat, call and video

A consultation marketplace connects users and astrologers for live sessions, so it needs onboarding, availability, real-time communication, billing and moderation. It is the most complex model.

Astrologer onboarding and profiles

Collect identity details, a bio, specialties and payout information, and review each astrologer before they appear. Profiles should show only what the astrologer chooses to share, and the review step protects users and the brand.

Availability, booking and live sessions

Astrologers set schedules or go online for an on-demand queue. Users book a slot or start a session, and chat, audio and video run through a real-time communications provider. See our chat app development page for the messaging side.

Per-minute billing, wallets and refunds

Many marketplaces use a wallet that users top up and that drains by the minute during a session. Timers must be accurate, receipts clear and refund rules written in plain words. Our on-demand app development page covers the marketplace pattern behind this.

Reviews, reports and moderation

Reviews help users choose, and reporting tools help staff act on problems. Moderation covers chat logs, flagged sessions and astrologer conduct, with a clear path from a report to a decision.

How do horoscope and consultation apps make money?

Four models cover most products: subscriptions, pay per consultation, one-off reports and advertising. Many combine two. We give no revenue figures, because none can be promised for a new product.

Astrology app subscription tiers

A subscription usually offers free daily content and charges for depth, such as full chart reports, extra readings or an ad-free experience. Keep the free tier genuinely useful, and show exactly what the paid tier adds before asking for payment.

Pay per consultation

Marketplaces charge per minute or per session and pay the astrologer a share. Decide up front how fees, refunds and payouts work, and show the price before a session starts.

Reports and in-app purchases

One-off reports, such as a compatibility write-up or a year-ahead outlook for fun, can sit beside a subscription. Frame them as entertainment and avoid language that suggests the report will reveal what will happen.

Ads and sponsorships

Ads can fit a free tier with heavy daily use, and they hurt a subscription product when they interrupt paying users. Sponsorships work when the sponsor suits the audience. Keep birth data out of any ad network.

App Store and Google Play rules for horoscope and chart apps

Store rules decide whether a product is accepted and how it can take payment. This section summarizes what Apple’s and Google’s pages said on October 28, 2026, and the rules change, so your team re-reads them before submission.

Apple’s saturated categories rule and fortune telling apps

Guideline 4.3(b) in Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines lists fortune telling among kinds of apps that are well established, and says Apple will not accept new submissions in those categories unless they offer a meaningfully different or improved experience. A horoscope or chart product therefore needs a clear difference, such as a distinct method, richer tools or a marketplace Apple has not seen many times.

In-app purchase for digital content and subscriptions

Guideline 3.1.1 says that if you unlock features or functionality in an app, such as subscriptions or access to premium content, you must use in-app purchase. Daily-content paywalls and report stores therefore go through Apple’s system on iOS.

Live one-to-one consultations and payment methods

Guideline 3.1.3(d) says real-time person-to-person services between two individuals may use purchase methods other than in-app purchase, while one-to-few and one-to-many real-time services must use in-app purchase. A private session between a user and an astrologer is one thing, and a live class with many attendees is another.

Google Play payments policy

Google’s Payments policy says apps that require or accept payment for in-app features or digital content must use Google Play’s billing system unless one of its listed exceptions applies, and it lists subscription services among examples. Read the exceptions with your counsel before deciding how consultations are paid.

Birth date, time and place are personal data, and users share them expecting care. Collect only what the chart needs, protect it and let people delete it.

Birth date, time and place are personal data

Treat the combination as sensitive. Store the place as coordinates where possible, keep only the precision a chart needs and avoid putting birth details in logs, analytics or support tickets.

State privacy laws such as the CCPA

California’s CCPA overview, updated August 28, 2026 on the Attorney General’s site, lists consumer rights to know what personal information a business collects, to delete it, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and to non-discrimination for using those rights. Whether and how a law applies to your business is a question for your counsel.

Letting users delete their account and birth data

Apple’s guideline 5.1.1(v), as read on October 28, 2026, requires apps that support account creation to offer account deletion within the app. Build deletion to remove the profile, saved charts and stored birth data together.

Analytics without oversharing

Send events such as “chart viewed” to analytics, and keep birth data out of them. Review every third-party kit for what it collects, since an ad or analytics tool should never see a user’s birth details.

Adult users only: age gates and COPPA

Products we build are for adults. That means an age gate at sign-up, no marketing aimed at minors and a plan for what happens when a young person tries to join.

Why do horoscope products need an age gate at sign-up?

Ask for a birth date at sign-up, which a chart product needs anyway, and block sign-up below the age your counsel and you set. Do not tell a blocked user to try a different date.

COPPA and users under 13

The FTC’s COPPA rule at 16 CFR Part 312 defines a child as an individual under 13, and section 312.3 makes it unlawful for an operator of a service directed to children, or with actual knowledge it is collecting personal information from a child, to collect it in violation of the rule. The app is built for adults and does not knowingly collect children’s data.

Store age ratings

Apple’s upcoming requirements page says ratings for all apps were automatically updated to its new age rating system as of January 31, 2026, and that developers answer the updated age rating questions in App Store Connect. Answer them honestly, because the rating shapes who sees the product.

Disclaimers, content review and local rules

Disclaimers set expectations, content review keeps text within them, and local rules are a question for counsel. All three belong in the build, not only in the terms of service.

Entertainment disclaimers on readings

Place a short entertainment statement in onboarding, on each reading and in consultation screens. Your counsel approves the wording. A long legal block at the bottom of a page is less effective than a short, visible line.

Reviewing horoscopes and astrologer replies

Editors review published horoscopes, and a reporting tool lets users flag text. For marketplaces, review astrologer profiles and sample sessions, and keep a list of banned topics such as health, money and predictions about death.

Local business rules: ask counsel

Some places regulate businesses that offer readings. We make no claim about any city or state, and your counsel tells you what applies where you operate.

Notifications, retention and analytics

Notifications bring people back, and analytics show whether the core loop works. Both should respect the user.

Daily horoscope notifications people keep on

Let the user choose the time and the topics, and make turning them off one tap. A notification they chose is one they keep.

Retention without dark patterns

Avoid fear-based or urgent messages about fate, such as warnings about a bad day ahead. Remind people of content they enjoyed, and never make them feel something bad will follow if they do not open the product.

Measuring what matters

Track activation (a user reaching a chart), return visits and paid conversion. Read trends over weeks. We give no benchmark numbers here because every audience differs.

Which platforms should a horoscope or chart app launch on?

Start with the platform where your audience is, and choose a build approach that does not trap you. Native, cross-platform and web are all reasonable.

Native or one codebase

Native builds suit heavy video or special device features. One codebase suits most content and chart products. See our cross-platform app development, React Native app development and Flutter app development pages for the trade-offs. We also build iOS and Android apps.

A web app for charts, search and sharing

A web version lets people calculate a chart from a search result and share a link. Our web app development and progressive web app pages cover the options.

How to build a horoscope or chart app: a phased plan

Pick one audience, one model and one loop, build it, test it with adults and then grow. The steps below show the order we recommend.

Discovery: one audience, one model, one core loop

Discovery produces a short written scope: who it is for, which model, which chart engine, which store rules and which first loop. Skipping it is the most common cause of a bloated first release.

Timeline of a phased launch in five stages: discovery, first release of one loop, pilot, astrologer onboarding and scale.Timeline of a phased launch in five stages: discovery, first release of one loop, pilot, astrologer onboarding and scale.
Astrologer onboarding comes after the pilot because a marketplace needs a proven user loop before it recruits people to serve it.

First release, pilot, then scale

Release one loop, pilot with a small adult audience, and fix what the pilot shows before building the next piece. Our MVP development page describes the approach.

What we need from you

Bring your content sources or plan, your astrologer roster if you have one, brand material and disclaimer wording approved by your counsel. A short description of the audience helps most.

Cost of building a horoscope or chart app: published bands and running costs

Progression quotes builds after a written scope. For context, published US price bands run from low five figures for a simple app to several hundred thousand dollars for a marketplace platform.

Published US price bands for app builds and AI assistants

The table lists market figures for comparable builds, not our rates. Our app development cost page explains what drives price in general.

Published US price bands for app builds and AI assistants (market figures, not a Progression rate card)
WorkTypical published US price bandWider published values
Simple app or MVP (content or chart app)$15,000 to $40,000$10,000 to $80,000
Mid-complexity app (payments, admin panel, two platforms)$60,000 to $120,000$40,000 to $150,000
Complex app or marketplace platform (consultation marketplace with live sessions)$150,000 to $250,000$100,000 to $500,000
AI assistant or LLM chatbot build (bands vary widely)$30,000 to $60,000$15,000 to $150,000
US agency developer bill rates$100 to $150 an hour$50 to $200 an hour

These are published US price bands (market figures, not a Progression rate card) reported in 2026 by GoodFirms (via Zoho), Purrweb, Blackthorn Vision, RaftLabs and Space-O Technologies. Progression builds are quoted after a written scope.

What moves a budget

Four choices move the price most: a consultation marketplace, live video, an AI astrologer and the number of languages. A content or chart product with one language and no live sessions sits at the low end.

Running costs after launch: API calls, video minutes, AI usage and store fees

After launch you pay for chart calls or hosting, video and chat minutes, AI model usage and the store’s commission on digital sales. Our app development cost page lists the current store lines.

Choosing an astrology app development company

Choose a team that can say in writing which chart engine and license it proposes, how AI is limited and who owns the code. Firm answers matter more than a long portfolio.

Questions to ask in writing

Ask for written answers to the six questions on the cards, and keep them with the contract.

Engine: Which chart engine. What calculates positions and houses, and how it was tested against known charts.
License: Which license. How the ephemeris license is chosen before launch, and who reviews it.
Limits: How AI is limited. Topics it refuses, how readings are labeled and when a human takes over.
Billing: How sessions are billed. Wallet top-ups, per-minute timers, refunds and store payment rules.
Ages: How ages are gated. What happens at sign-up when a user is under the age you set.
Code: Who owns the code. Repository, store accounts and data in your name from day one.

License chosen before launchAsk which license is proposed and who reviews it
AI limits written downAsk for the refusal list and a sample of a refused question

Why a clone script is a weak start

A ready-made astrology app clone looks cheap, yet Apple’s saturated categories rule makes a copy of an existing product hard to get accepted, and the code and license behind a clone script are usually unknown. Start with your own core loop instead.

Repository and store accounts in your name

You own the code, the data and the developer and cloud accounts from day one. Put it in the contract. Related builds worth reading: social media app development for community features and dating app development for compatibility features.

How AI assistants answer “how do I build a horoscope app?”

Founders ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google AI Overviews how to build, price and launch these products. Assistants answer from pages they can read, so clear, dated pages shape the answer, and nobody can promise a mention.

The founder questions assistants get

Typical questions: what it costs, which API to use, how store rules apply and how to avoid harmful AI answers. Pages that answer each one directly, with a table, give an assistant something to quote.

What the site of a chart product should say about itself

Frequently asked questions

What do you get from an astrology app development company?
A user app for iOS, Android or the web, an astrologer app and admin panel if you run a marketplace, a chart calculation layer, payment and subscription flows, and where wanted an AI assistant with clear limits. Scope is written first and quoted afterward.
Which astrology product model should a new founder start with?
Start with the one whose core loop you can test fastest: daily content, a birth chart, a compatibility tool or a consultation marketplace. Marketplaces are the most complex and depend on supply, so many founders prove a content or chart loop first.
How are birth charts calculated inside an app?
The app geocodes the birthplace to coordinates, converts local birth time to UTC using the historical offset for that place and date, and passes the result to a calculation layer that returns planetary positions and houses. Historical time zone data keeps the chart correct.
What happens when a user does not know their birth time?
Offer a chart without houses, since houses depend on the exact time, and say so plainly on the screen. Some products ask for an approximate time and label the result as approximate. Never fill in a time silently, because users would not know the chart rests on a guess.
What belongs in the first release of a horoscope or chart product?
One core loop. For a chart product, enter details, see a chart and read an explanation. For content, a daily reading and a notification the user chooses. Stores, community and extra languages wait for later phases.
Do you build the astrologer side of a consultation marketplace?
Yes. That includes astrologer onboarding and profiles, availability, session handling, an earnings view and payout setup, along with the admin tools that approve and review astrologers, handle refunds, show reports to your team and keep a record of every decision.
Can users talk to astrologers by chat, audio or video in the app?
Yes, through a real-time communications provider, with booking, timers, receipts and moderation around it. Private one-to-one sessions and live classes with many attendees are treated differently by Apple’s payment rules, so the payment design separates them.
Should we use an astrology API or run our own calculation service?
Use a hosted API to launch quickly and a service of your own when volume, license terms, latency or accuracy control favor it. Whichever you pick, test results against charts known to be correct and cache what you can.
What does the Swiss Ephemeris license mean for a commercial app?
As described on astro.com on October 28, 2026, a developer must choose either the AGPL or the Swiss Ephemeris Professional License before distributing software containing it or activating a public service. The AGPL requires placing the whole project under the AGPL or a compatible license. Your counsel reviews the choice.
How does an AI astrologer app avoid harmful answers?
With refusal rules for medical, legal, money, pregnancy, death and relationship-harm questions, a visible label on every generated reading, and a handoff to a human astrologer when the AI must decline. The assistant explains a chart and never predicts events.
Can AI calculate a chart on its own?
It should not. The calculation layer computes positions and houses, and the AI explains the numbers in plain text. Letting a language model do the math invites errors that are hard to spot, so the assistant is handed a finished chart and quotes from it.
Which revenue models suit a horoscope or consultation product?
Subscriptions, pay per consultation, one-off reports and advertising, often combined. We give no revenue figures, since none can be promised for a new product, and the right mix depends on whether your audience wants content, charts or live sessions.
How should we price an astrology app subscription?
Offer useful free daily content and charge for depth, such as full chart reports or extra readings. Test two or three tiers with real users before settling, and make the paid benefits clear before checkout.
Does Apple accept new horoscope and fortune telling apps?
Apple’s guideline 4.3(b), as read on October 28, 2026, names fortune telling among well-established categories and says Apple will not accept new submissions unless they offer a meaningfully different or improved experience. Define the difference early.
Must consultation payments go through Apple’s in-app purchase?
Under guideline 3.1.3(d), as read on October 28, 2026, real-time person-to-person services between two individuals may use other purchase methods, while one-to-few and one-to-many real-time services must use in-app purchase. Digital content and subscriptions use in-app purchase under 3.1.1.
Is birth data treated as personal data?
Treat it as personal data and handle it with care: collect only what the chart needs, protect it, keep it out of analytics and let users delete it. California’s CCPA lists rights to know, delete and opt out. Counsel decides what applies to you.
Can teenagers use the apps you build?
No. The products are built for adults, with an age gate at sign-up. The COPPA rule at 16 CFR Part 312 covers children under 13, and your counsel sets the minimum age for your product.
What disclaimers should a horoscope product show?
A short entertainment statement in onboarding, on each reading and in consultation screens, with wording approved by your counsel. It should say that astrology is offered for entertainment and does not predict events or give health, legal or financial guidance.
What decides the build time for an astrology product?
The model, the number of platforms, the live features and the integrations. A content or chart loop is quicker than a marketplace with video. We give no promised timeline and quote after a written scope, with phases.
What price bands apply to building a horoscope or chart product?
Published US price bands put a simple app at $15,000 to $40,000, a mid-complexity app at $60,000 to $120,000 and a complex marketplace platform at $150,000 to $250,000. These are market figures, not a Progression rate card, and our work is quoted after a written scope.
Is a white-label or clone script a good shortcut?
Rarely. Apple’s saturated categories rule makes copies hard to get accepted, and the code quality and license of a clone script are usually unknown. A custom core loop that Apple can see is different gives you something to defend, and you control the code from the start.
After launch, who holds the repository and store accounts?
Yes. You own the code, the data and the developer and cloud accounts from day one. We recommend writing that into the contract, with a list of every repository and store account opened in your name, so you can change teams later without losing anything.

Which product model are you launching?Tell us whether it is daily content, birth charts, compatibility or a consultation marketplace, and who it is for. You get a free proposal with a written scope before any code, including the store rules that apply.
