A WordPress website design company decides how your site looks, reads and behaves before anyone writes theme code: the templates, the type and color system, what each page says, and what your team can safely change in the editor. We are a WordPress web design agency in New York, and we design and build custom block themes for businesses and nonprofits across the United States, tested against WCAG 2.2 AA and handed over with recorded training. Below: custom WordPress design, block themes against page builders, accessibility and speed, examples, WordPress website design pricing and how to compare WordPress web design companies.

The short answerA WordPress website design company earns its fee before any theme code is written: it counts the templates, sets the type and color system, plans what every page says and decides what editors may change. Design here means the design system and the templates; building, redesign, stores and care have their own pages. Our published website prices start at $1,400 for a landing page and $9,500 for a brochure site, with hosting and maintenance separate and optional.
Price bands are labeled as market figures. Progression’s website prices are the published fixed-scope table. WordPress, Google, W3C and Department of Justice pages were read in October 2026 and may change. General information, not legal advice.
What does a WordPress web design agency do?
A WordPress web design agency decides how a WordPress site is organized, how it looks and what the people who run it are allowed to change, then hands that design to whoever builds the theme, or builds it in house. A firm that buys a theme and swaps in your logo has done a configuration, not a design. The work below happens before theme code and shapes every line of it.
Templates, type and the editor: the design work on a WordPress site
Design on WordPress is done in templates, not in pages. A template is a layout that many pages share: a service page, an article, a team profile, a landing page. The designer fixes a type scale, a color system, spacing rules, component states such as hover, focus and error, and how each template behaves at four breakpoints. The editor view belongs to the design too. A layout that looks right in a mockup but breaks when someone adds a fourth bullet or a longer heading is unfinished. When quotes are compared, count named templates and not pages: fifteen pages on four templates is a smaller job than fifteen pages on nine.
What a WordPress web design agency adds to a theme install
A theme install gives you someone else’s layouts holding your content. An agency adds four things the install skips. It draws the architecture from what people search for, so each page answers one intent. It writes a content plan that says what every page must contain and who signs it off. It builds components that are accessible from the start instead of patched later. And it agrees a performance budget before the build and holds the build to it. Leave those out and the same theme on the same host gives a vaguer, slower site than its demo promised.
Design here; development, redesign, stores and care on their own pages
This page covers design. Writing the theme code, plugins and integrations sits with our WordPress development company page. Moving an existing site onto a new design while protecting its traffic belongs to our website redesign services. Shops are handled on our WooCommerce development company page, and updates, backups and monitoring after launch on our WordPress maintenance services page.
What is WordPress web design?
WordPress web design is the design of the theme layer of a WordPress site: the templates, template parts, patterns and global styles that decide how stored content appears on screen. WordPress keeps content apart from presentation, so a designer can change the look without rewriting a word, and an editor can change the words without disturbing the look. Good WordPress web design uses that separation on purpose.
WordPress web design in one paragraph
The WordPress theme handbook says a theme controls how content is presented, and that features a site cannot lose belong in a plugin so the design can change without taking them away. In a block theme, templates are HTML files built from blocks, and a file called theme.json holds the global settings and styles. A designer working in that system produces templates, patterns and a style guide a builder can translate directly, with nothing left to interpretation.
What is a WordPress designer?
A WordPress designer designs templates and patterns in the terms the block editor uses. That person knows what theme.json can and cannot control, designs for the content editors will really enter, and works with whoever builds the theme. On a small project one person may design and build. On a larger one, the WordPress designer hands over named templates, component states and a type and color system the developer can check the build against.
Is WordPress good for website design?
Yes, when the templates are designed as a system: a small set of layouts, reused with discipline, that editors can fill without breaking. It is weaker when every page is hand built in a visual builder, because then the design lives in each page and no longer in the theme, and a change means visiting every page. A useful test is to ask how many templates the site has and whether the answer is a number you can name. If you are weighing it against a hosted tool, our Webflow vs WordPress comparison goes through that choice in detail.
Are WordPress websites professional?
The platform is neutral. W3Techs reported WordPress on 39.5% of all websites on October 28, 2026, and on 58.3% of the sites whose content management system it can identify, so the platform is common at every level of quality. What makes a site look professional is the design system, the clarity of the content and the speed of the pages, all of which are decided by the people doing the design, not by the logo of the platform underneath.
Custom WordPress design: our WordPress web design services
Custom WordPress design means the templates, type, color and components are drawn for your business and your content and not picked from a catalog of demos. People looking for custom WordPress web design, or for custom WordPress web design services, are usually describing the rows below. Some firms sell the pair as a WordPress design and development agency; we do both, and we settle the design before the build begins.
| Service | What it changes | Published price it maps to |
|---|---|---|
| Custom block theme design | Templates, patterns, type and color drawn for your content | Brochure site from $9,500; business site from $18,000 |
| Restyle in place | New type, color, imagery and components on your existing structure | from $4,800 |
| Landing page or campaign template | One template with copy, a form and tracking | from $1,400 |
| Bilingual design | Two languages written natively, with correct hreflang | from $26,000 |
| Accessibility remediation | An existing site brought to WCAG 2.2 AA | from $4,000 |
Custom block theme design
We build custom block themes with patterns and content types, made for speed, search and easy editing. Designing one starts with the content: which kinds of page exist, what each must hold and which parts repeat. The designer then draws one template per kind, a handful of patterns for the sections editors reuse, and the rules in between. Because the theme is built for this site alone, there are fewer layouts and options to maintain, and fewer things for an editor to get wrong.
WordPress theme customization services for a site you already have
WordPress theme customization services make sense when the structure works and the look does not. A restyle in place gives your existing site new type, color, imagery and components while its pages, URLs and content stay where they are. It runs three to five weeks and starts from $4,800 on our table. If the real trouble is slow pages or an editor nobody trusts, a restyle is not the answer, and we say so before quoting.
Landing pages and campaign templates
A landing page is one template with its copy, a form and tracking, usually ready in one to two weeks from $1,400. Campaign templates are the same idea made reusable: a layout your team can duplicate for each offer without calling a designer. The design question is how much of the template to lock so every new page keeps the same message order, the same form position and the same weight for the call to action.
Redesigning a WordPress site the design-led way
A WordPress website redesign that is led by design starts from what the current pages earn and what the editors dislike about them, then redraws the templates around both. We keep this to a paragraph here because the move itself, with its redirects and the protection of existing rankings, has its own pages: our website redesign services and the redesigns and migrations section of our WordPress development company page. Come to this page for the design questions, and to those for the move.
WordPress website designers near me, or a remote WordPress web design agency?
Searches for WordPress website designers near me, or WordPress web design near me, often come from a buyer who wants to know who will answer the phone and whether the work can be seen and discussed. Distance matters less to design than it seems. We are based in New York and work nationwide and worldwide, and most projects run remotely with scheduled calls.
When meeting in person helps a design project
A face-to-face day earns its cost in two cases. One is a photography day, where an art director on site changes what gets shot. The other is a workshop with several stakeholders who disagree about what the site is for and need to settle it in one room. Everything else, including design reviews, content interviews and training, works on shared files and scheduled calls, and leaves a record that a meeting does not.
How remote design reviews run
A remote review works when one person speaks for your side. That person gathers the comments, resolves the conflicts and approves each stage in writing. Each stage carries a fixed count of revision rounds, stated in the contract, so feedback gets consolidated into a single round instead of arriving one email at a time. The outcome is a design that moves forward in steps you can point to.

Block themes, patterns and full site editing: designing for the Site Editor
WordPress full site editing lets editors change headers, footers and templates with blocks, and it works only on a block theme. The block theme documentation dates block themes to WordPress 5.9 and says classic themes do not work with the Site Editor. WordPress block theme design is therefore a different task from classic theme design: the designer decides which parts are fixed and which are free before the editor ever opens.
What theme.json controls in a design system
The theme.json file is where a block theme records its design system. The theme handbook describes a settings section, which can register a color palette, custom font sizes and families, spacing options and layout widths, and a styles section for global, element and per-block styling. A designer who writes the palette, the type scale and the spacing steps as tokens gives the developer one file to build from and gives editors only the choices the design allows.
Patterns and locked templates your editors can use
A pattern is a ready-made arrangement of blocks that editors insert and fill in, and a theme can ship its own. The Site Editor page notes that synced patterns are managed in one place. To keep a layout from drifting, the block template reference describes locking: a template can stop blocks from being inserted, moved or deleted, or limit editing to content only, and individual blocks can carry their own lock. We pair that with recorded training so editors know what they can touch.
What the Site Editor lets editors change, and what to restrict
In the Site Editor, editors can change styles, templates, template parts, navigation and pages, and the documentation warns that edits to header and footer templates apply to every page using them. That power is the reason to decide roles before launch. Settle who may change global styles, who may edit templates and who only fills in pages, and write the answer into the handover.
| Area | Who usually decides | What goes in the handover |
|---|---|---|
| Global styles: palette, type and spacing | A named design owner | The tokens, and a rule that changes go through that person |
| Templates and template parts | The design owner with a developer | Which templates exist, and which are locked |
| Patterns | The design owner | Which patterns are provided, and when to add a new one |
| Navigation and footer | A site manager | Who may edit menus, and how changes are reviewed |
| Page content | Editors and authors | Training, and the pages each person may edit |
Page builders: Elementor and Divi against a custom block theme
Elementor describes itself as a visual website builder for WordPress, and Divi describes itself as a theme and visual page builder. Both let a person lay out pages on a canvas without code. Our own position is simple and published: we avoid page builders on new builds because of their performance and maintenance costs. This section explains what that means for a buyer weighing Elementor website design against a custom block theme.
What a page builder costs after launch
Our published position is that a builder trades editing convenience for performance and portability, and that builder bloat is the usual cause of slow WordPress sites. That is a reason to ask questions, not a measurement of your page, and we do not put a number on how heavy any builder is. Ask a vendor to show mobile loading figures for a finished site built the way yours would be, and weigh the Elementor and Divi claims against that measurement rather than against a feature list.
Already on Elementor or Divi? Restyle, rebuild or leave it
Not every builder site needs to move. If the pages convert and the owners can edit them, restyle in place and leave the structure alone. If the pain is speed or an editor that breaks things, a rebuild to a block theme is worth pricing. Either way, measure first: our website speed optimization page covers what to test before you decide.
What your editors touch in each approach
In a builder, editors work on a visual canvas and can move almost anything, which is both the appeal and the risk. In a block theme, they work with blocks and patterns inside locks the designer set. The second needs recorded training so people learn what is fixed and why. Pick the approach by asking who edits weekly and how much freedom they need.
| Question | Custom block theme | Premium theme | Page builder |
|---|---|---|---|
| Speed on a phone | Strong: carries only what the design uses | Depends: varies with what the theme bundles | Weak: builder weight is the usual cause of slow sites, so measure the finished page |
| Editing safety | Strong: locks and patterns set limits | Depends: options are many and loosely bounded | Depends: editors can move almost anything |
| Design consistency | Strong: one system, enforced by templates | Depends: the theme’s look is shared with other sites | Depends: each page can drift from the last |
| Update risk | Strong: few dependencies to update | Depends: the vendor sets the pace | Weak: the builder is one more piece of software to keep current |
| Portability | Strong: standard blocks move with the site | Depends: tied to the theme’s own features | Weak: builders trade away portability, so plan for the cost of leaving |
| Cost of later changes | Depends: needs a developer for new templates | Depends: cheap until the theme runs out of options | Weak: easy to start, costlier to untangle |
Custom WordPress website design, a premium theme or a fully custom site?
Custom WordPress website design, a premium theme with light changes and a fully hand-coded site are three different purchases that look alike in a list of quotes. The deciding factors are who will maintain the site, how many kinds of page it needs and how much performance matters to the business.
Custom website vs WordPress: which is better?
WordPress vs custom website is mainly a question about who maintains the site afterwards. If your team will edit weekly, choose a system they can use and keep the custom work to the theme. If the site is mostly static and its needs are unusual, hand-coded work can cost less to run than it appears. Our page on custom website development covers the second route.
When a premium theme is enough
A premium theme with light customization can serve a site with few templates, standard content and a small budget. Buy it under your own account so the license and update key stay with you, and plan the design as a restyle of what the theme provides. If you later need layouts the theme cannot give, the cost of changing course is the price of the shortcut.
When headless or hand-coded beats a WordPress theme
For performance-critical sites, complex content models or a business with a technical owner, a different front end can pay off. Headless means WordPress keeps the content while a separate front end, in our work built with Next.js or Astro, draws the pages. It is the fastest and most flexible route and it needs somebody technical on hand, so we recommend it when it is right and say so when it is not. Read our headless WordPress page and the headless CMS vs traditional CMS comparison before committing.
Is WordPress the right platform for your design?
WordPress suits many designs and not all of them. The questions that decide it are who will edit the site, what it must connect to and how long you want to own it.
Why use WordPress to build a website?
It is portable, extensible and runs on any host that meets its needs. The license page says WordPress is released under GPLv2 or later, so the software is free to use, change and move. Its reach helps as well: with WordPress on roughly four in ten websites by W3Techs’ count, editors, developers and hosts who know it are easy to find. Together those facts mean you are not locked to one vendor, and if an agency relationship ends, another can pick the site up.
Can WordPress be used for a business website?
Yes, and it is the platform we use most often for business sites, because it is portable and can grow with the business. What it asks in return is upkeep: core and plugin updates, security monitoring, backups with a restore that has been tested and uptime checks. That is why we quote maintenance separately instead of folding it into the build price. For a small site it runs $50 to $250 a month, it is optional with us, and you may do it yourself or use anybody.
Will WordPress become obsolete?
No one can predict that. What can be read is the current state: the releases page lists WordPress 7.1.3 dated October 6, 2026, and the requirements page recommends PHP 8.3 or greater, MariaDB 10.11 or greater or MySQL 8.0 or greater, and HTTPS. Keeping a site on supported versions is the maintenance job, and a design built on current block features avoids old ones.
When Webflow, Squarespace or Wix fits better
Some projects belong on another platform, and the honest question is who will run the site after launch. We have written a comparison for each: Webflow vs WordPress, Squarespace vs WordPress and Wix vs WordPress. They set out the trade each time, so this page does not repeat their conclusions. Our list of WordPress alternatives widens the field if none of the three fits.

Accessible WordPress design to WCAG 2.2 AA
Accessibility is decided in the design file: the color system, the focus styles, the type sizes and the component states are drawn before any code exists. We test our builds against WCAG 2.2 AA, which the W3C publishes with the statement that content conforming to 2.2 also conforms to 2.0 and 2.1.
Contrast, focus states and type in the design system
Written as design tokens, the standard looks like this: body text at 4.5:1 contrast or better, large text at 3:1, everything operable by keyboard, a visible focus style on every control, real labels on form fields and layouts that survive 200% zoom. The W3C’s contrast guidance gives the two ratios. Each becomes a rule in the palette and a state in the component.
Accessibility-ready themes and accessible patterns
WordPress’s theme team reviews themes for an accessibility-ready tag, and its review handbook states that the tag does not mean the theme meets WCAG AA. That is the reason we test the finished templates and not the starting theme. Accessible patterns are patterns whose heading order, labels and focus behavior were tested once and then reused.
ADA Title II dates for government and public university sites
For state and local governments, the Department of Justice’s web rule page gives compliance dates of April 26, 2027 for entities serving 50,000 people or more, and April 26, 2028 for smaller entities and special district governments, after an extension issued in April 2026. The rule names WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Our ADA compliant website design page goes through it.
Designing a WordPress site for speed: images, fonts and Core Web Vitals
Speed is a design decision before it is a hosting one. The sizes of images, the number of fonts and the scripts a template loads are all chosen in the design stage, and they set the ceiling that no later tuning can raise.
Image sizes and formats set in the templates
We specify images as WebP or AVIF at the size they are displayed, with explicit width and height so nothing shifts as the page loads, and we never lazy-load the image that is the largest element on screen. These are template rules, not editor habits, so every new page inherits them. The design file should name each image slot: the width a template shows, its proportions, and whether the picture carries meaning or is decoration, so an editor knows what to upload and why.
Fonts, icons and third-party scripts
Fewer font families and weights mean fewer files to fetch, and the first design question is whether body copy needs a custom font at all. An icon set earns its weight only if most of it is used. Each third-party script, from chat to analytics to maps, is audited before launch and kept only if it earns its place, because every one of them borrows speed from the page and none gives it back.
Core Web Vitals targets written into the scope
Our contract carries numeric targets for LCP, CLS and INP, measured on real mobile data. The web.dev reference lists the good thresholds as 2.5 seconds or less for LCP, 200 milliseconds or less for INP and 0.1 or less for CLS, at the 75th percentile of page loads.
WordPress website design examples by business type
WordPress website design examples are most useful when they show a pattern you can copy and not a screenshot you cannot. These descriptions are of patterns, in our own words, and cite no client work. WordPress business website examples tend to follow the type of business more than the platform.
Law, accounting and B2B service firms
These sites need one page per service, proof placed near the call to action and a profile for each person that a stranger can check. The templates are few and strict: a service page, a profile, an article and a contact page, with the same order of content each time. The design effort goes into hierarchy and trust, not into effects. See our B2B website design and law firm website design pages for the sector detail.
Local service businesses and healthcare practices
Here the phone comes first: service areas, booking, hours and one-tap calling sit at the top of every template, because visitors are often on a phone and in a hurry. A service-area template and a service template cover most of the structure. Healthcare practices add constraints around patient information and what a form may collect, and our healthcare website design page covers them.
Nonprofits, schools and member organizations
These sites need donation and event templates and often many editors with different skills, so locks and roles matter more than clever layout. A good design gives volunteers a small set of patterns they can fill in and keeps the global parts out of reach. Compare our nonprofit website design and membership website design pages for how those needs differ.
How a WordPress website design project runs
A project runs in nine stages, and the chart shows the order. The design stages come first because everything after them consumes their output.
Discovery, architecture and the content plan before any mockup
Before anyone opens a design tool we need revenue by service line, close rate on inquiries, capacity and seasonality, because those decide what the site should push. The sitemap then comes from what people search for, one page per intent, mapped before anything is drawn. The content plan names who writes and who approves each page, with dates, because late content is the largest single cause of late launches.
From the design system to a custom block theme
We design a system and its templates, then build a custom block theme from them. The designer and the developer share the same token names, so a change to the palette is one edit and not a hunt through templates. Content production follows the build, so pages are written to the templates they will sit in and not squeezed into them afterwards.
How long does it take to design a WordPress website?
Six to ten weeks for a brochure site when content is ready, twelve to twenty when the content must be written. Almost all overruns come from content and approvals, not from design or code, which is why the plan sets dates for both. The timeline chart below shows the typical spans for four fixed-scope projects from our table.
Sign-off, launch checks and the 30 days after launch
A written definition of done, agreed before work starts, ends the argument about the final invoice. Quality assurance runs against WCAG 2.2 AA, with every form submitted from a real phone. After launch, 30 days of support are included because launch week is when the surprises appear, and recorded training means the person who attended does not take the knowledge with them when they leave.
WordPress website design pricing and packages
WordPress website design pricing here follows the published fixed-scope table. The table lists build types and typical timelines, and the sections below explain what moves a project up or down it. Affordable WordPress website design services usually mean choosing the smallest scope that does the job, which is often a restyle or a single landing page.
| Build type | Price from | Typical timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Restyle in place | from $4,800 | 3 to 5 weeks |
| Single landing page | from $1,400 | 1 to 2 weeks |
| Brochure site, 5 to 8 pages | from $9,500 | 6 to 8 weeks |
| Business site, 10 to 16 pages | from $18,000 | 8 to 13 weeks |
| Bilingual site, 12 to 20 pages | from $26,000 | 12 to 18 weeks |
| Site plus content program | from $36,000 | 14 to 20 weeks |
| Ecommerce, under 200 SKUs | from $34,000 | 12 to 18 weeks |
| Accessibility remediation | from $4,000 | 3 to 6 weeks |
| Maintenance, small site (optional) | $50 to $250 a month | Ongoing |
How much does it cost to build a WordPress website?
How much does it cost to build a WordPress website depends on the route. On our table a restyle starts at $4,800, a brochure site at $9,500 and a business site at $18,000. The next table shows published US price bands (market figures, not a Progression rate card) for the two routes buyers most often compare: a premium theme with light customization, and a custom WordPress business site.
| Route | Typical band | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Premium theme with light customization | $3,000 to $10,000 | Few templates, standard content |
| Custom WordPress business site | $15,000 to $60,000 | Built around your content and templates |
What moves the cost of WordPress website design
The cost of WordPress website design moves with the number of templates, the amount of content to be written, integrations, languages and any accessibility repair the old site needs. Count templates, not pages: a five page WordPress website cost depends on whether the five share one layout or use five, and the same logic sets any WordPress custom website cost. How much to design a WordPress website is therefore a question about templates first. WordPress website design packages that quote a flat price per page hide that difference, and it is usually where a cheap quote turns into a change order.
Hosting, premium plugins and licenses on top
WordPress website design and hosting are priced separately, and so are premium plugins and fonts, which should be bought in your name. The price for WordPress website design on our table does not fold hosting or maintenance in; both are optional. Maintenance for a small site is $50 to $250 a month, and our WordPress hosting guide covers choosing a host.

How to compare WordPress web design companies and agencies
WordPress web design companies sell different things under similar names, so compare scope before price. WordPress design companies and WordPress design agency firms differ mainly in what the quote names and what it leaves out, and the same is true of a custom WordPress web design company, a WordPress design studio and a freelancer offering WordPress website designer services. The best WordPress website designers can show named templates and a written scope before they quote.
Questions to ask WordPress web design agencies before you sign
Ask WordPress web design agencies how many templates the quote includes, who writes the content, how many revision rounds each stage allows, which accessibility standard applies and who will own the accounts at the end. Ask for the answers in writing. Their replies show how the project will run, and an agency that can answer all five quickly has probably done it before.
Hire a WordPress designer, a freelancer or an agency?
To hire WordPress designer help for a restyle is often the right call: one person, one scope. A WordPress web designer for hire is less suited to a project where architecture, content and build all meet, and an agency fits there. Ask any freelancer who owns the accounts and what happens if they are unavailable mid-project. Our WordPress outsourcing page explains the trade-offs in more depth.
Warning signs in a WordPress design quote
Watch for pages priced instead of templates, a builder license held in the agency’s name, no redirect map, and no accessibility standard. A quote that never names the number of revision rounds, or that leaves content to be settled later, is also a warning. Each of these moves risk onto you, and each is cheap to fix before signing and expensive to fix after.
What you own from a WordPress website design company
A WordPress website design company should hand over everything the site depends on. Our contract puts the domain, hosting and DNS in your name, builds on an open-source content management system you can host anywhere, transfers source files on final payment and records the training.
GPL themes and plugins: what the license allows
The license page says WordPress is released under GPLv2 or later and states the project’s view that themes and plugins inherit the GPL. For a buyer that generally means freedom to modify and move what you have bought, but read each vendor’s terms, because support and update access are usually sold separately from the code. This is general information, not legal advice.
Premium theme, plugin and font licenses in your name
Licenses are valuable when they are yours. A license held in an agency’s account can lapse or vanish when the relationship ends, and then updates and support stop. Insist that every premium theme, plugin and web font is bought under your own email, record each one with its renewal date, and put the list in the handover documents.
Design files, accounts and the handover
Ownership also covers design files, accounts and documents. Your domain, hosting and DNS stay in your name from the start, and the source files transfer on final payment. The handover includes recorded training and written documentation of where everything lives, and a written offboarding process agreed at the start. A WordPress web design company that cannot name these at the outset is unlikely to deliver them at the end.
Hosting, care and search after a WordPress design launches
A launched site still needs a host, a care plan and a search plan. None of them is a design task, but a design that ignores them will struggle.
Hosting choices
Pick a host you can log into, in your name, that serves pages quickly; server response time sets a floor under every other speed measure. Hosting is separate and optional with us, and we will recommend one and set it up if you want. Our WordPress hosting guide compares the options, and for a store see WooCommerce hosting.
Care plans
Updates, backups with a tested restore, security monitoring, uptime checks and a small allowance for edits are what a care plan covers. Our WordPress maintenance services page lists them. For a small site the cost is $50 to $250 a month, and it is optional: you can do it yourself or use anybody, and we will document what needs doing either way.
Search from the first template
Semantic headings and structured data are set per template, so every page starts correct and no one has to retrofit them. A WordPress site designed this way gives search engines the same clean structure on page one hundred as on page one. Monthly SEO work is separate: our SEO services retainers are from $1,500 a month, and our WordPress SEO services page covers the platform-specific side.
How AI assistants answer “who designs WordPress websites?”
When someone asks an assistant who designs WordPress websites, the answer draws on what the assistant can read about firms. Google’s AI features documentation says a page needs to be indexed and eligible for a snippet, with no extra requirements. Nothing here is a promise of placement.
What assistants draw on when asked for a WordPress designer
Plain-text service pages, published prices, directory entries and reviews give an assistant something to quote. A page that hides its scope in images or behind scripts gives it nothing. This is description and not a promise: Google states that appearing in these features cannot be guaranteed. The practical step is to publish clear facts about what you design, for whom and from what price.
Design choices that keep answers readable by machines
Use real text in place of text in images, keep content out from behind scripts, and make any structured data match what is visible on the page. These are design-stage choices, because a template that renders its headline as a picture cannot be fixed by an editor. Our AEO for WordPress page goes further into what a WordPress site has to publish.
Choosing a WordPress website design company
Choosing a WordPress website design company comes down to scope, standards and ownership, and the checklist below gets you through a first call.
A short checklist for the first call
Bring six questions to the first call with any WordPress website design company, ours included. The grid after the list compares the three routes on speed, editing safety, design consistency, update risk, portability and the cost of later changes. It is our judgment, with no third-party numbers, and the build decides the middle column.
- How many templates does the quote include, and can I see them named?
- Who writes the content, who approves it, and by what date?
- How many revision rounds does each stage allow?
- Which accessibility standard is the site tested against?
- Which numeric speed targets are in the contract?
- Who will own the domain, hosting, licenses and design files at the end?
