Updated November 2026 · Written and maintained by the Progression Agency strategy team
Between Manhattan, Kansas, and Columbia, Missouri, sits what the Kansas Department of Commerce calls the largest concentration of animal health companies in the world, and that one stretch of highway shapes what a Kansas City marketing agency is asked to do. This page gives two account playbooks, step by step: one for animal health companies selling to veterinarians and pet owners, one for engineering and architecture firms pursuing public work. Fees sit between them. Marketing leads and principals can copy either list into a plan. Progression is based in New York and runs Kansas City accounts remotely, with on-site sessions on request.

The short answer Two specialties set the work in this region. Animal health companies promote prescription products to veterinarians and pet owners under rules the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine explains, and engineering and architecture firms win public work through qualifications-based selection. Each gets a numbered playbook below, with the rule and the deliverable for each step. Fees sit between the playbooks, labeled as published market figures. We state what the rules say and never that a promotion or a firm complies, so ask regulatory counsel and counsel.
The FDA material is the Center for Veterinary Medicine’s page on promotion and advertising of prescription animal drugs, content current as of July 2, 2024. The corridor figures are Kansas Commerce’s. This page covers the FDA’s rules for prescription animal drugs only, so confirm the regulator for anything else. We name no company, drug or design firm.
What a Kansas City marketing agency finds along the Animal Health Corridor
The Kansas Department of Commerce says the corridor, anchored by Manhattan, Kansas, and Columbia, Missouri, has the largest concentration of animal health companies in the world, and that Kansas employs more than 14,000 people in animal health and related industries, adding more than $2.2 billion to the state’s GDP.
Missouri Partnership has reported on the corridor’s animal health presence.
Marketing in Kansas City, MO and across the river comes to these companies’ readers: veterinarians and pet owners on one side, public selection panels on the other. A marketing company in KC that serves them meets expert readers on both sides. That is our reasoning, and it is not a measurement.
- Animal health: the reader is a veterinarian or pet owner, and a regulator reads the claim too.
- Engineering and architecture: the reader is a selection panel that scores qualifications against published criteria.
Why are these expert readers?
A veterinarian reads a label for a living, and a panel scores a statement of qualifications against criteria. Neither is moved by adjectives.
Does marketing in Kansas City, MO differ from marketing across the state line?
For these two specialties, the readers are the same on both sides. The state statutes differ, and the engineering playbook covers them.
Playbook one: animal health, from approved label to pet owner
This playbook follows the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine’s page on promotion and advertising of prescription animal drugs, content current as of July 2, 2024. It is the other side of the counter from veterinary marketing agency work for practices. Ask regulatory counsel.
Step 1: Confirm the regulator for each product
The FDA page covers prescription animal drugs. This page read nothing about pet food, vaccines or flea and tick products, which may sit under other rules or agencies, so confirm the regulator before you write. Deliverable: a product list marked with its regulator.
Step 2: Write from the approved label outward
The FDA calls the approved labeling the simplest starting point, because it includes the information needed to use the drug safely and effectively. Deliverable: a claim map with a source for each line.
Step 3: Strip the “Safe at 10X” habit
The FDA’s own example is a Target Animal Safety Study statement such as Safe at 10X, which it says can be misleading because the drug may not have been shown to be safe at that dose. A safety study is not an efficacy or dose claim. Deliverable: a list of every study-derived line, with the study named.
Step 4: Give risk the same weight as benefit
The FDA says risk information should have the same prominence and emphasis as benefit information, and lists omitted side effects, hedging language and tiny fonts as problems. Check video and social layouts at phone size. Deliverable: a layout check for each format.
Step 5: Separate the veterinarian’s page from the owner’s page
Direct-to-consumer ads aimed at pet owners must be truthful and not mislead consumers into thinking the drug is safer or more effective than demonstrated, and they can prompt owners to ask their veterinarian. Deliverable: two routes with two sets of copy.
Step 6: Decide when to ask CVM first
The FDA offers pre-dissemination reviews of promotional materials, by meeting or written summary, and may send an Untitled Letter or a more serious Warning Letter, which has 15 working days for a written response. Build the timeline around the review.
Step 7: Show up where the corridor meets
The corridor’s own site lists an Animal Health Summit with emerging company presentations. Confirm the summit dates with the organizer. Use trade press, email and LinkedIn, and name no publications. See veterinary SEO.
What a Kansas City marketing firm charges between the playbooks
A Kansas City marketing firm prices these accounts the way marketing is priced anywhere, so the bands below are published US figures. We claim no Kansas City premium.
| What is quoted | Published US band | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| Single channel retainer | $1,000 to $12,000 a month | A narrow animal health or pursuit task |
| Full service retainer | $5,000 to $50,000 a month | Both playbooks run as one program |
| Fixed scope project | $10,000 to $50,000 | A label-to-launch program or a pursuit kit |
| Google Ads management | $1,000 to $10,000 a month, or 10% to 20% of ad spend | Veterinarian search |
| Fractional CMO retainer | $5,000 to $25,000 a month | Outsourced marketing in Kansas City for a firm without a marketing lead |
Regulatory review time and an SF 330 have no band and are quoted after a written scope. See marketing agency pricing, outsourced marketing services and fractional CMO services. Progression publishes no price list for marketing.
Playbook two: engineering and architecture pursuits
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports for May 2024 that architecture and engineering occupations were 1.9 percent of employment in the Kansas City, MO-KS metro against 1.7 percent nationally, with a mean hourly wage of $45.57 against $49.99. We compute no location quotient.
OneKC, a regional development council, says on its site that nearly half of global sports architecture and 20% of the world’s power systems are designed in Kansas City. That is its promotional claim, and we pair it with BLS. For method, see engineering firm marketing and architecture firm marketing.
| Text | What it says | What it does not say |
|---|---|---|
| 40 U.S.C. 1101 and 1103 | Federal policy is to announce all requirements for architectural and engineering services and negotiate on demonstrated competence and qualification at fair and reasonable prices; the agency head discusses with at least three firms and ranks at least three in order of preference on published criteria | Anything about a state or local agency |
| RSMo 8.291 | A public agency lists three highly qualified firms, selects the best qualified and negotiates, moving down the list if talks fail; it does not apply to a political subdivision that adopts a qualification-based procedure consistent with state policy | What a given subdivision has adopted |
| K.S.A. 75-5801 | State policy to announce requirements for engineering services and negotiate on competence and qualifications at fair and reasonable fees | Architectural services |
Step 1: Sort the pipeline by the statute on the announcement
A federal announcement, a Missouri public agency and a Kansas state engineering procurement each sit under a different text. Kansas’s section addresses engineering and not architecture. Deliverable: a pipeline sorted by the governing text, reviewed with counsel.
Step 2: Keep Part II current and Part I ready
Federal Acquisition Regulation 36.702 says to use the SF 330 Part I for contract-specific qualifications when the contract is expected to exceed the simplified acquisition threshold, and Part II for general qualifications. Our read of the section is dated November 2, 2026. 40 U.S.C. 1103 says the agency head encourages annual statements of qualifications. Deliverable: a current Part II.
Step 3: Write project sheets a selection panel can score
Use the criteria language in the announcement, with named roles. Invent no metrics. Deliverable: a project sheet per pursuit, scored against the criteria by someone who did not write it.
Step 4: Build the top three case early
Both 40 U.S.C. 1103 and RSMo 8.291 describe a short list of at least three. The marketing job is to be known before the list is made. Deliverable: a plan for how the panel already knows the firm.
Step 5: Put the principal’s expertise where panels look
People pages, articles and talks. A P.E. or licensed architect credential appears only as true. See engineering website design and architect website design.
Step 6: Rehearse the interview and debrief the loss
Rehearse the interview with the people who will attend. After a loss, send a written debrief request and keep a shared lessons file.

Where the two playbooks overlap: proof, people and patience
Both readers want evidence they can check, named people and a firm that has been around long enough to be known. Neither is won by a campaign.
| Animal health | Engineering and architecture | |
|---|---|---|
| The reader | A veterinarian or pet owner, and the regulator | A selection panel |
| The rule | The FDA’s promotion page | Federal, Missouri and Kansas selection texts |
| The core deliverable | A claim map tied to the label | A project sheet tied to the criteria |
| Ask counsel about | What a line claims | Which statute applies |
Which regulator reviews this?
For prescription animal drugs, the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine, per its page. For anything else, confirm before you write.
Running both playbooks from one Kansas City marketing company
A shop serving both needs reviewers who can read a label and an SF 330. We make no process claim beyond what our live pages describe.
A top marketing agency in Kansas City for a consumer brand may have never read a Part I, so ask for a sample of the work your reader would score. Lists of top marketing agencies in KC tell you who is known, and a sample tells you who has done the work. We name no firms.
What to bring to a first meeting
A first meeting goes faster with the right documents on the table. The list differs by playbook.
| Item | Animal health | Engineering and architecture |
|---|---|---|
| The governing text | The approved label for each product | The announcement for each pursuit |
| The claims or the criteria | A list of the claims you want to make | The selection criteria, copied from the announcement |
| The proof | The studies behind each claim, by name | Project sheets and a current Part II |
| The calendar | Your next label review date | Your next pursuit date |
Who should attend the first meeting?
Someone who can answer for the claims or the pursuit, and someone from counsel’s side if you have one. A marketing lead alone cannot settle either.
Digital marketing agency work inside a long sales cycle
A Kansas City digital marketing agency works inside a long sales cycle for both readers. Search matches how a veterinarian or an owner’s rep looks things up.
A digital marketing agency in Kansas City can build people pages, project pages and a LinkedIn program, and it promises no shortlist. See B2B marketing agency, LinkedIn ads agency and engineering firm SEO.
Kansas City internet marketing and internet marketing in Kansas City are older names for the same work. Digital marketing in Kansas City also includes social media marketing agency work and email marketing in Kansas City, as supporting channels only.
What belongs in a long cycle program?
A steady flow of proof: one case, one article, one talk at a time, tied to the step it supports.
What this page leaves out
This page covers two specialties and one regulator. It reads no rule on pet food, vaccines, flea and tick products, or any product the FDA’s prescription animal drug page does not cover.
Does this page replace regulatory advice?
No. It says what the texts say, as of November 2, 2026. Ask regulatory counsel and counsel before you rely on any of it.
