Fort Lauderdale SEO: Planning Search in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole and French

Updated November 2026 · Written and maintained by the Progression Agency strategy team

Fort Lauderdale SEO has to work in more than one language, because 45.8% of Broward County residents aged 5 and over speak something other than English at home, according to the Census Bureau’s 2024 American Community Survey. This page is for owners and marketing leads who want search work that matches who is looking for them. It gives one row per language (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole and French), then shows how to build and link the pages and what the work costs by scope. Progression is based in New York and works with Fort Lauderdale clients remotely, with on-site sessions on request.

The short answer A search plan for Fort Lauderdale starts with who speaks what at home, then picks which language gets pages first, based on who on your staff can answer. The table of five rows below does the planning, the build section covers addresses, tags and review, and the cost section prices each stage by scope. The figures come from Census Bureau estimates, which carry margins of error and do not isolate every language. Legal points are stated as read and dated, so ask counsel or the Bar.

Language figures are 2024 one-year American Community Survey estimates and ancestry figures are 2020 to 2024 five-year estimates, both read through Census Reporter’s open copy of the Bureau’s tables. Google’s two documents on language versions were read in full in November 2026, and the Florida Bar checklist is dated August 21, 2023. We print no sample wording in any language other than English, because each line would need a fluent reviewer.

One plumber, four other ways to ask

Take one service, plumbing, and one English search, for example “plumber near me in Fort Lauderdale.” A Spanish speaker, a Brazilian Portuguese speaker, a Haitian Creole speaker and a French speaker each ask for the same help in their own words and word order. We print none of those wordings here, because each would need a fluent reviewer, and we make no claim about how often any of them is searched.

EN: English. The base page, written for the way an English speaker asks for the service.
ES: Spanish. Its own page, written by a fluent writer who knows your trade.
PT: Brazilian Portuguese. A short set of pages for the services your staff can deliver in Portuguese.
HT: Haitian Creole. Plain service pages and a phone number that someone answers in Creole.
FR: French. Only where your own calls or clients show the need.
Rev: A fluent reviewer. Every language is reviewed by a fluent speaker before the page goes live.

An English page does not answer the other four, and a translated menu over English copy does not either. The plan below treats each language as its own page set, with its own reviewer and its own test.

Why not simply translate the English page?

Because a translation answers the words and not the searcher. The service, the proof and the phone number have to make sense to the person asking in that language, and a fluent reviewer is the one who can say whether they do.

Fort Lauderdale SEO starts with who speaks what at home

Fort Lauderdale SEO is a local job with a language question inside it. The 2024 American Community Survey one-year estimates for Broward County count 1,929,058 residents aged 5 and over, of whom 1,045,036 speak only English at home. That leaves 45.8% who speak another language, and the table gives the lines that matter here.

Language spoken at home, Broward County, residents aged 5 and over (2024 estimates)
Language line in the tableSpeakersMargin of errorShare of residents 5 and overOf whom speak English less than “very well”
Speak only English1,045,03616,52754.2%Not applicable
Spanish568,4149,61529.5%237,225 (41.7% of Spanish speakers)
French, Haitian, or Cajun148,45912,9207.7%56,277 (37.9% of this line)
Other Indo-European languages78,8157,4014.1%27,464

Read the table with two cautions. The Bureau joins French with Haitian and Cajun in one line and folds Portuguese into the wider Indo-European line, so the county has no separate figure for Haitian Creole or for Portuguese here. All of the figures are estimates, with the margins shown.

Ancestry is a second clue, and it is not language. The 2020 to 2024 five-year estimates count people reporting Haitian ancestry and Brazilian ancestry, and the language plan uses them only to decide where to look. The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance’s home page describes the area as positioned at the cusp of Latin America. That is the Alliance’s description, and we draw no market-size claim from it.

Hiring a Fort Lauderdale SEO company is a different decision for a business that serves one language than for one that serves four. The plan below keeps that difference visible.

How reliable are these Census figures?

They are survey estimates with published margins, and the margins for towns are wide. Use them to decide where to look, then check against your own calls and forms.

The language plan, one row per language

The table is the plan. Each row says what the Census shows for Broward County, where to look first, the first pages to build and who reviews them.

A language plan for Fort Lauderdale, one row per language
LanguageWhat the Census shows for BrowardWhere to look firstThe first pages to buildWho reviews it
English54.2% speak only EnglishEverywhere you serveService pages, town pages where you truly work, plain answers to common questionsYour own subject expert
Spanish29.5% speak Spanish at home, and 41.7% of those speak English less than “very well”CountywideYour highest-margin services first, then contact and pricing pages; see our Hispanic marketing agency page for Spanish search workA fluent writer in your trade
PortugueseNo separate figure; it sits inside the 4.1% for other Indo-European languages. Ancestry points to about 7,900 people of Brazilian ancestry in Deerfield Beach and about 3,700 in Pompano Beach, with wide marginsThose towns, as a place to startA short set for services your staff can deliver in PortugueseA fluent Brazilian Portuguese reviewer
Haitian CreoleNo separate figure; it sits inside the 7.7% for French, Haitian, or Cajun. Ancestry shows about 133,800 people of Haitian ancestry countywide, including about 12,000 in Pompano Beach, 11,000 in the city of Fort Lauderdale and 9,800 in LauderhillThose places, as a place to startPlain service pages and a phone number that someone answers in CreoleA fluent reviewer
FrenchSame joined line as Haitian; no ancestry figure was read, so no town is namedYour own calls and clientsBuild only when your own calls or clients show the needA fluent reviewer

Ancestry is not language, and these are survey estimates with wide margins for towns, so the plan says “about” and ranks no town.

Why two of these rows have no figure of their own

The Census table lumps French with Haitian and puts Portuguese inside a wider line. The way to fill the gap is your own data: call logs, form fields that record the language and the languages your staff speak. We invent no percent.

Town notes, used with care

The ancestry figures are a place to start, not a map of who will buy. Build a town page only where you truly serve, and give it real content for that place.

SEO Fort Lauderdale, FL: which language gets pages first

Four questions decide it: who answers the phone in that language, what your calls already show, what a job is worth and whether you can keep the pages current. The language that passes all four goes first.

  • Who answers the phone in that language today?
  • What do your calls and forms already show?
  • What is a job in that language worth to you?
  • Can you keep those pages current?

Who decides which language goes first?

You do, with your front desk. The four questions need answers from the people who take the calls, not from the website.

Start where someone can answer

A page in a language nobody on staff speaks produces leads that go cold. Say which languages your staff speak on the contact page, and make the phone number real.

Prove demand on a small set before translating everything

Write three to five pages, add a form field that records the language and read the results. That is a test, not a forecast, and we give no timeline for it.

How the pages get built once the plan is set

Google’s two documents on language versions, tell Google about localized versions and managing multi-regional and multilingual sites, set the build rules as we read them. Our hreflang guide and multilingual website design pages cover the same ground in general.

Self: List itself. Each language version must list itself as well as all the other versions.
Both: Point both ways. If two pages do not both point to each other, the tags will be ignored.
Codes: Standard codes. A two letter language code, with a region code added only when the content differs by region.
Default: A default page. The x-default value was designed for a language selector page or an automatic redirect page.

A separate URL for each language

Google recommends different URLs for each language version rather than cookies or browser settings that change the language on one page, and it lists subdirectories, subdomains and country domains, while URL parameters are not recommended. A subdirectory such as a folder for Spanish suits a business with one location, which is our reasoning.

The hreflang set for these five rows

The codes are en, es, pt, ht and fr; the ISO 639 list gives ht for Haitian Creole. Google says a language code comes first and a region code is optional, a region code alone is not valid, and the tags are ignored if two pages do not point to each other. Use a region code only when the content differs by region. Every version lists itself and the others, and x-default suits a language selector page.

A translated menu over English copy is not a page

Google says translating only the boilerplate while the bulk of the content stays in one language can create a bad experience. It also says it uses the visible content of a page, not the lang attribute, to decide the language.

Let the visitor switch

Google advises against automatically redirecting people by a guess about their language, and suggests plain links to the other versions. A family member may search for someone else, which is our reasoning for keeping the choice in the visitor’s hands.

  • One folder for each language, each with its own URLs.
  • Every version lists itself and the others, in tags that point both ways.
  • No automatic redirect by a guessed language.
  • Visible content in one language on each page, not side by side.
  • A fluent reviewer’s sign-off recorded with the final wording.

A fluent reviewer signs off every language

A fluent speaker in your trade reviews every page before it goes live. The Google pages we read do not mention machine translation, so we state no Google rule on it. Spanish vocabulary and Brazilian versus other Portuguese are review questions, not settled ones.

What the language plan costs, by scope

Price comes after the plan and the build because the plan decides the scope. Each added language is quoted after a written scope, with no number and no Fort Lauderdale premium.

1: Fix the English base. The audit and the technical fixes that every other language will inherit.
2: Add the first language. The row where someone can answer the phone and a job is worth the work.
3: Add the next only when the first answers. Read the first language's calls and forms before the next page is written.
4: Report by language folder. Each row is judged alone, so a weak row does not hide behind a strong one.
  • The pages for that language and the folder they sit in.
  • The reviewer and how sign-off is recorded.
  • The tags that connect the versions.
  • How that language is reported on its own.

Local SEO in Fort Lauderdale when one address serves several languages

One location keeps one name and one address everywhere, in every language. Put a language line on the location page, such as which languages the front desk speaks, and answer a review in the language it was written in. We state no Google Business Profile rule here, since none was read for this page. Our local SEO services page covers the location work.

  • Name, address and phone, the same as everywhere else.
  • Which languages the front desk speaks, and when.
  • Links to the matching language pages.
  • A review reply in the language the review was written in.

What should a location page say about language?

Which languages someone on site can speak, and when. Leave out a language nobody can answer.

Sectors where a Broward language plan gets tested

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance lists target sectors that include aviation and aerospace, financial services, global logistics, headquarters, life sciences, manufacturing, marine industries and technology. We use three of them as tests. Boats, marinas and vacation rentals have their own page on web design in Fort Lauderdale.

Law firms and the Florida Bar’s same-language checks

The Florida Bar’s quick reference checklist for websites, social media pages and video sharing channels, revised August 21, 2023, asks whether an advertisement in a language other than English fails to carry a required disclosure in that language, citing Rule 4-7.12(c). It asks the same question about several other disclosures and testimonials. We read the checklist and not the rule text, and we did not check for changes after the revision date. Ask counsel or the Bar. See law firm SEO for the rest.

Clinics and practices with a front desk

The phone test from the language plan applies: a Spanish or Creole page needs someone to answer in that language. Our healthcare SEO agency page covers the rest. We make no health claims and give no patient figures.

Trade and logistics firms selling south

The Alliance names Port Everglades and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport as two economic engines. A page for a Spanish speaker in Broward differs from a page for a buyer in another country, which may need a region code. See international SEO agency and logistics marketing agency.

Fort Lauderdale SEO agencies, read through the language plan

Judge a firm by how it handles each row of the plan, not by how it describes itself. If you searched for the best SEO company in Fort Lauderdale, ask who writes and reviews each language, because no list can tell you that.

Questions to put to a firm, row by row
Row of the planWhat to ask to seeA weak answer
EnglishThe audit and the fixes for the base siteA list of keywords and no fixes
SpanishA page in Spanish and the name of the person who reviewed itA translated menu over English copy
PortugueseHow the firm decides whether to build itWe cover every language
Haitian CreoleWho the fluent reviewer is and how they sign offMachine output with no reviewer
FrenchThe test that shows it is neededNo test

How do you test a firm on Portuguese?

Ask how it decides whether to build it, since the Census table has no separate figure. A firm that answers with your calls and your staff is reading the plan; one that answers with a language count is not.

A Ft Lauderdale SEO company can pass this test, and so can a solo adviser. A Fort Lauderdale SEO consultant still needs fluent reviewers for each language, and so does any firm.

Fort Lauderdale SEO agencies that cannot show a page, a reviewer and a result definition for one language are not ready for five.

SEO companies in Fort Lauderdale vary in size, and size is not the test. A firm of three people with fluent reviewers beats one of thirty without them, which is reasoning, not a finding.

A Fort Lauderdale marketing agency or a Fort Lauderdale digital marketing agency may run search as one channel among several, and our guide to a marketing agency near you covers that wider purchase.

SEO services Fort Lauderdale firms can buy one language at a time

Fort Lauderdale SEO services are easiest to buy in stages. The cards under the cost section give the order: fix the English base, add the first language, add the next only when the first is answering, and split reporting by language folder so each row is judged alone.

What does buying one language first look like?

A written scope for the first language, a review step and a report that stands alone. The next language waits until that one is answering.

  • A scope for the English base and the first language only.
  • A named reviewer for the first language.
  • A report for that language alone.
  • A decision point before the second language.

Any SEO agency in Fort Lauderdale can sell these stages one at a time. A small business can buy SEO for a small business in Fort Lauderdale in one language first. A website SEO audit for Fort Lauderdale sites checks the English base before anything else. We promise no timeline and no result.

Frequently asked questions

What should Fort Lauderdale SEO include if my customers speak several languages?
A language plan with one row per language, a fluent reviewer for each, separate URLs for each language version and a way to measure each one alone. Start with the languages someone on your staff can answer.
Does a Fort Lauderdale SEO company need to speak every language on my plan?
No. It needs fluent reviewers for each, and you need someone who answers the phone in that language. A firm that cannot name its reviewers has not planned the work.
How much of Broward County speaks Spanish at home?
29.5% of residents aged 5 and over, a 2024 American Community Survey estimate of 568,414 speakers with a margin of error of 9,615. Of those, 41.7% speak English less than “very well.”
Is there a Census figure for Haitian Creole speakers in Broward?
Not in the table we read. Haitian Creole is joined with French and Cajun in one line at 7.7% of residents. Ancestry figures give a rough clue, and ancestry is not language.
Is there a Census figure for Portuguese speakers in Broward?
Not in the table we read. Portuguese sits inside the line for other Indo-European languages, at 4.1%. Ancestry gives a rough clue for Brazilian residents in some towns.
Should each language version of my site have its own address?
Google recommends different URLs for each language version rather than cookies or browser settings that change the language on one page. Use hreflang tags to connect the versions.
Can a language switcher replace translated pages?
No. A switcher needs real pages to link to. Google also says translating only the boilerplate while the bulk of a page stays in one language can create a bad experience.
How does local SEO in Fort Lauderdale change when my staff speak Spanish or Creole?
Say so on the location page, keep the name and address the same everywhere and answer each review in the language it was written in.
Does the Florida Bar require disclosures in the language of an ad?
The Bar’s checklist, revised August 21, 2023, asks whether a required disclosure fails to appear in the language of an advertisement, citing Rule 4-7.12(c). We read the checklist, not the rule. Ask counsel or the Bar.
How should I compare Fort Lauderdale SEO agencies on language work?
Ask each firm who writes each language, who reviews it and what it will show you. The table of questions in this page ties each one to a row of the plan.
Is there a best SEO firm in Fort Lauderdale for Spanish?
No list can answer that. Ask for work in Spanish and for the name of the fluent reviewer. We name no firms.
What do SEO services in Fort Lauderdale cost per language?
Each added language is quoted after a written scope, and no per-language band is published. Published US bands run from $500 to $3,000 a month for local SEO at one location. Our packages are $1,500, $3,400 and from $7,200 a month.
Are you based in Fort Lauderdale?
Progression is based in New York and works with Fort Lauderdale clients remotely, with on-site sessions on request. We claim no Fort Lauderdale office or staff.
What does hreflang need for Haitian Creole?
The language code ht, per the ISO 639 list, with return links between the versions. Add a region code only if the content differs by region.
Should a clinic build pages in French?
Only if its own calls or clients show the need, and only if someone at the front desk can answer in French. We read no figure that isolates French speakers in the county.
What is the margin of error on these figures?
Each table row shows its own margin. Census estimates are survey results, and the margins for towns are wide, so the plan says about and ranks no town.
Can one location page serve several languages?
It can carry a language line, but each language that needs search traffic needs its own page set at its own address.
What does a trade firm selling to buyers abroad need?
Possibly region codes and a different page from the one written for a Spanish speaker in Broward. See our international SEO agency page for that case.
Who signs off the Spanish pages?
A fluent writer in your trade reviews each page before it goes live, and you keep the approval with the final wording.
Which languages and pages do we list when we ask for a free proposal?
The languages your customers use, who on your staff answers in each and the pages you already have. You get a free proposal for Fort Lauderdale SEO with a written scope.
