Updated September 2026 · Written and maintained by the Progression Agency strategy team
Progression Agency is a global marketing agency and international digital marketing agency in New York City for companies that sell in more than one country: search, paid media, content, email, PR and brand, planned as one strategy and run market by market in your own accounts. We are not a holding-company network with an office in every capital; we are one team with a written scope, and that is the point for a mid-sized company that needs its international marketing to be coherent rather than large.

The short answerA global marketing agency for a mid-sized company should give you one strategy, one measurement system and one accountable team across your markets, with local language and local law handled per market. The decisions that matter are which parts of the marketing to standardise across countries and which to adapt, which channels carry demand in each market (they differ more than most teams expect), and how to measure every market on the same basis so budget can move to where it works. That is the work described on this page; the terms are the same for every client, worldwide.
Channel and platform observations on this page are general and current at the time of writing; the channel map for a specific company is produced in discovery. Progression Agency has no affiliate relationship with any platform named.
What a global marketing agency should mean for a mid-sized company
The top global marketing agencies and international marketing agencies are networks. The large agency networks exist to serve companies with marketing teams in twenty countries. A company with one marketing team and customers in five countries needs something else: a single strategy that its team can run, campaigns that share assets and measurement across markets, local language and law handled properly, and one agency accountable for the whole. We run international marketing that way: one written scope, campaigns in your accounts, native writers and translators per market, and a monthly review that compares markets on the same metrics. Our digital marketing services are the building blocks; this page is about running them across borders.
Global, international and multinational marketing: the difference
International marketing means selling into other countries from a home base, usually with adapted campaigns per market. Multinational marketing means separate marketing in each country, often by local teams with local budgets. Global marketing means one strategy and one brand position applied everywhere, with local adaptation only where law, language or culture requires it. Most mid-sized companies are international by circumstance and want to become global by design, because global is cheaper to run and easier to measure. The framework below is how we decide what to standardise.
Global marketing strategy and international marketing strategy: the framework we use
A global marketing strategy and an international marketing strategy answer the same classic question: standardisation against adaptation. Our answer is a table, produced in discovery, that assigns each element of the marketing to one of three columns: standardised everywhere, adapted per market by rule, or built locally. The rule of thumb is that strategy, brand position, measurement and creative systems standardise; messaging, offers, pricing and channels adapt; and legal notices, local partnerships and reviews are local. The table shows a typical result.
| Element | Decision | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Brand position and visual identity | Standardise | One brand is cheaper to build and travels; exceptions are rare and usually legal (name conflicts) |
| Value proposition and proof | Adapt by market | Proof that persuades in Germany (certifications) differs from proof that persuades in the US (reviews) |
| Pricing and offers | Adapt by market | Currency, tax, competitors and willingness to pay differ; one global price is rarely right |
| Search and content | Localise | Keyword demand and language differ per market; see the international SEO page |
| Paid media | Adapt by market | Channel mix, auction prices and ad policy differ; creative system shared, campaigns local |
| Email and lifecycle | Standardise the system, localise the copy | One platform and one flow logic; consent rules and language per market |
| PR and communications | Localise | Media, journalists and news hooks are national |
| Measurement | Standardise | The same metrics in every market, or budget cannot move between them |
| Legal and consent | Localise | GDPR, UK GDPR, CASL, POPIA, PDPA, US state laws and sector rules differ |
International digital marketing: channels by market
The channel that carries demand differs by country more than any other variable. Google dominates search in most markets but not in South Korea (Naver), and Yahoo Japan still carries meaningful share in Japan. Messaging apps carry commerce and customer service in markets where email does not: WhatsApp across much of Europe, Latin America, India and Africa, LINE in Japan and Thailand, KakaoTalk in Korea. Marketplaces set the terms in some categories (Amazon in the US, UK and Germany). Paid social costs and formats vary by market and by platform policy. We map the channels per market in discovery and build the plan around where demand actually is rather than around the home market’s habits.
| Region | Search | Social and messaging | Notes for campaigns |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States and Canada | Google; Bing meaningful for B2B | Meta, LinkedIn (B2B), TikTok, YouTube; SMS governed by TCPA/CASL | Reviews and comparison sites weigh heavily; prices expected on site |
| United Kingdom and Ireland | Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok; WhatsApp for service | Cookie consent stricter than the US; PECR on email | |
| European Union | Meta, LinkedIn; WhatsApp widely used; local networks in some markets | Consent mode and GDPR shape every measurement plan; language per country | |
| Gulf states | Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok strong; WhatsApp for service | Arabic and English; Ramadan timing; data residency for some sectors | |
| Australia and New Zealand | Meta, LinkedIn; TikTok growing | Time-zone planning for campaigns run from New York | |
| Japan and South Korea | Google plus Yahoo Japan; Naver in Korea | LINE (Japan), KakaoTalk (Korea), Instagram, YouTube | Language and platform expertise decide results; local partners for PR |
| South Africa | WhatsApp, Meta, TikTok | POPIA consent; mobile-first audiences; data costs shape formats |
International PR: how a global PR agency programme actually runs
As a global PR agency, international PR agency and international communications agency for mid-sized companies, we run press programmes market by market. Press coverage is national: a journalist in London does not care that a story ran in New York. International PR is therefore a series of national programmes with one narrative, one spokesperson brief and one set of proof points, adapted to each market’s media and news calendar. We write and pitch in English and work with native-language partners for other markets, follow the FTC rules on endorsements and reviews for US campaigns, and we never promise coverage, which no honest PR firm can. Our public relations work describes the method in one sector; the international version adds the per-market media map.
International advertising agency work: paid search and paid social across countries
As an international advertising agency (an international ad agency, a global PPC agency and an international PPC agency are the same service described by different searchers), we run paid media across countries. Paid media across countries needs one creative system and separate campaigns per market: separate currencies, separate bids, separate ad-policy compliance (health, finance and alcohol rules differ by country), separate conversion tracking and, in the EU and UK, consent mode measurement. Auction prices vary widely for the same term, so budgets are set per market from that market’s data. We run paid social and search campaigns in your accounts so spend, data and history stay yours, and report cost per lead by market on the same basis so budget can move to the market that is working.
Cross-border marketing agency work for ecommerce
A cross border marketing agency earns its fee on the things marketing cannot hide. Cross-border ecommerce succeeds or fails on the things marketing cannot hide: landed cost including duties and VAT, delivery times, returns and payment methods buyers trust in each market. Marketing’s job is to state those clearly, price in local currency, localise the catalogue for search (see ecommerce SEO), and use the marketplaces where the category demands it. We build the market plan with the operational constraints written in, because a campaign that brings buyers to a checkout that surprises them with duties is a campaign that generates refunds.
Global B2B marketing agency work
A global B2B marketing agency has an easier standardisation problem than a consumer one. B2B buyers research in English in most markets, which makes global B2B marketing more standardisable than consumer marketing: one content programme, one LinkedIn creative system with regional targeting, one account-based list per region. What still adapts is proof (certifications, local references, compliance statements), pricing and the sales process. For US companies selling abroad and foreign companies entering the US, the market entry plan on our worldwide page is the starting sequence.
International branding agency and global branding agency work: what travels and what does not
Whether the brief calls us a global branding agency or an international branding agency, the question is the same. A brand’s position, name, identity and tone usually travel; its examples, humour, colours in some markets and specific claims often do not. Before a launch we check the name in each market’s trademark register and language, test the tagline with native speakers, and review claims against each market’s advertising rules. Our branding work covers identity; international branding adds the per-market checks.
Global social media agency work and measurement across markets
As a global social media agency we run one creative system with per-market accounts, languages and posting calendars, and measure every market on the same basis. Every market is measured on the same metrics: impressions, sessions, leads or orders, cost per lead, revenue where it is tracked, by channel and by country. GA4 is configured per country with consent mode where the law requires it, Search Console per site version, ad platforms per market. The monthly review is one document that compares markets, says which is working, and moves budget. Without this, international marketing becomes a set of national opinions.

How a global marketing engagement runs
| Step | What happens | Output |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Discovery (paid, fixed price) | Markets, demand, channels, legal constraints, current marketing | Written strategy: standardise, adapt, localise table; channel map; budget by market |
| 2. Foundations | Measurement, consent, brand system, localized site versions with international SEO | Comparable data per market; sites that convert locally |
| 3. Launch | Campaigns per market in your accounts; content and PR programmes | Live demand in each market |
| 4. Review and reallocate | Monthly written review across markets | Budget moved to what works; markets added or paused |
International marketing services and consulting
International marketing services from Progression are delivered as a retainer or as projects; an international marketing consultant leads discovery and the monthly review, and a global marketing agency team (search, paid, content, PR, brand) executes. A worldwide marketing agency, a marketing agency worldwide, a global digital marketing agency, a global advertising agency: the labels differ, the scope test is the same, one accountable team running your markets in your accounts.
What it costs
Global marketing is priced as a retainer sized by the number of markets and channels, with fixed-price projects for discovery, measurement and site work. The planning ranges on our pricing page apply; a quotation follows discovery. Ranges are US figures and apply worldwide.
