Affordable AEO services are answer engine optimization engagements scoped to a small budget: a short list of one-off fixes and a light measurement routine that help ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Google AI Overviews find, read and cite a business. This page is for owners and marketing leads with hundreds or a few thousand dollars to spend, not a department. It sets out what that money can and cannot buy, which work is paid for once and which recurs, the order to do it in, and how to tell a low-priced offer that is sound from one that is worthless. Progression Agency is based in New York City and works with clients across the United States and worldwide.

The short answerAffordable AEO is a sequencing decision more than a discount. On a small budget, buy the one-off work first: a crawler and indexing check, corrections to the facts assistants repeat about you, and clear answers on the handful of pages that sell. Measure with the free first-party reports in Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics before paying for a tracker. Planning ranges start at $1,000 to $4,000 for a one-off audit and $1,500 to $5,000 a month for a small-business retainer. No provider at any price can guarantee a citation, and an offer built on llms.txt files, bulk AI pages or purchased mentions is cheap and worthless.
Prices on this page are planning ranges; a quote follows a written scope. Platform settings and reports are described as they stood in October 2026. Nothing here describes a named client or a measured result for one.
What are affordable AEO services?
Affordable AEO services are answer engine optimization work scoped to fit a small budget. The scope shrinks; the standard of the work does not. A sound low-cost engagement does fewer things, on fewer pages, for fewer assistants, and it finishes what it starts.
Answer engine optimization is the practice of making a business easy for AI assistants to find, read, trust and cite. Our definition of AEO covers the term, and the AEO services page lists everything a full engagement delivers. This page deals with one question only: what to buy when the money is limited.
A useful starting point for any buyer on a budget is Google’s own position. Its guide to optimizing for generative AI features says that, from Google Search’s point of view, optimizing for AI search is still SEO, and that several tactics sold as AEO or GEO shortcuts can be ignored. Two things follow. The foundation is work you may already be paying for, and some popular add-ons are not worth any price.
Who does a small-budget engagement fit?
- A business with one main website and one primary market.
- A site of modest size, where a handful of pages bring in most inquiries.
- An owner or marketer who can give an hour or two a month to reading reports.
- A team that can borrow a developer for an afternoon, even if none is on staff.
- A company with basic SEO already in place, or one buying it alongside.
Who should spend more, or nothing yet?
- A site whose main content appears only after JavaScript runs in a browser. Google’s JavaScript guidance notes that not all bots can run JavaScript, and changing how a site renders is an engineering project.
- An organization with several brands, countries or languages. Enterprise AEO covers that scale.
- A business found almost entirely through maps and reviews. Local AEO explains why the order of work differs.
- A site that Google has not indexed. Fix that first; this guide to a site missing from Google starts there.
What can a small budget buy in answer engine optimization?
A small budget buys a diagnosis, a short list of one-off fixes and a light measurement routine. In planning ranges that means a one-off AEO audit at $1,000 to $4,000, strategy development at $1,500 to $6,000, or a small-business retainer at $1,500 to $5,000 a month.
Those figures are the planning ranges published on our AEO pricing page, which carries the full list, including mid-market and enterprise retainers and project implementation. They are planning ranges, not quotes; a quote follows a written scope.
| Budget shape | Planning range | What it realistically covers | What it leaves out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your own time and the free reports | $0 | Access checks, reading Search Console, Bing and Analytics, improving your own pages | Interpretation and engineering fixes |
| Entry tracking tool | $20 to $49 a month | Automated runs of a set of questions (Rankscale.ai lists at $20, Hall at $49) | Fixing anything it finds |
| One-off AEO audit | $1,000 to $4,000 | 10 to 20 hours of technical review and a prioritized fix list | Implementation, unless it is written into the scope |
| Strategy development | $1,500 to $6,000 | 15 to 30 hours: priorities, an order of work and a measurement plan | Doing the work |
| Small-business retainer | $1,500 to $5,000 a month | An audit, schema work, 5 to 15 pages and basic monitoring | Tracking at scale or a full-site restructure |
Below the audit range: your own time and the free reports
Much of the first layer costs nothing but attention. Allowing the right crawlers is a text edit. The reports that show AI visibility in Google and Microsoft surfaces are free. Improving a page you already own is your time. AEO for small business sets out a do-it-yourself routine; paid help starts where interpretation or engineering is needed.
Inside the audit range: a diagnosis you keep
The audit range covers roughly 10 to 20 hours of technical review. On a small site that is enough to check access, indexing, the facts assistants repeat and the pages that matter, and to hand back a prioritized list. The AEO audit checklist shows what the review covers. You own the document and can act on it with your own people.
Inside the strategy range: a plan with an order
Strategy development covers 15 to 30 hours. It suits a business that can do the work in house but needs someone to decide the order, define how results will be measured and say what to leave alone.
Inside the retainer range: a small monthly program
The small-business retainer covers an audit, schema work, 5 to 15 pages and basic monitoring. At this level the provider makes the fixes as well as finding them. It does not stretch to tracking hundreds of questions across every assistant, or to rebuilding how the site renders.
What can a small budget not buy?
A small budget cannot buy a guaranteed citation, coverage of every assistant in every market, a rebuilt website or a large content program. Knowing the limits is what keeps a low-cost engagement honest.
- A promised mention in ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity or Claude.
- Tracking of hundreds of questions across many assistants, countries and languages.
- A change in how the site renders, such as moving a JavaScript application to server-rendered pages.
- A steady flow of new articles. Volume is not what the platforms reward.
- Digital PR at scale. Earned coverage takes sustained outreach.
- Work across several brands, regions or languages.
- Repair of a damaged reputation, which is a separate program.
- Speed. One-off fixes land quickly; recognition by assistants follows on the platforms’ schedules.
Why can nobody sell a guaranteed citation?
Because no provider controls the systems that write the answer. Google states that a page meeting every requirement may still not be crawled, indexed or served, and that outside tools have no access to its internal ranking data and cannot guarantee performance. A guarantee is also an advertising claim. Under Federal Trade Commission advertising rules, a business needs a reasonable basis, meaning objective evidence, before it makes one. A provider selling certainty about a system it cannot see has no such basis.
Which AEO work is one-off and which is recurring?
Most of the work that decides whether an assistant can use your site is done once. The recurring part is small: reading reports, keeping facts current and adding an answer when buyers start asking something new.
This split is the center of an affordable plan. One-off work can be bought as a fixed-price project and finished. Recurring work should be sized to the hours it really takes, which for a small site is a few each month.
| Work | One-off or recurring | What triggers a repeat | Who usually does it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reviewing robots.txt and CDN bot settings | One-off | A new host, CDN, firewall or security plugin | Developer or provider |
| Checking the Search generative AI control | One-off | A new Search Console property or a new site owner | Site owner |
| Fixing pages that return errors or are set to noindex | One-off | A redesign or platform move | Developer |
| Making business facts consistent on the site and listings | One-off, then on change | A new address, hours, prices or services | Owner or provider |
| Rewriting the pages that sell so each answers its question | One-off per page | A new service or a changed offer | Writer or provider |
| Cleaning up structured data to match the visible page | One-off | A template change | Developer or provider |
| Recording a dated baseline | One-off | Nothing; later readings are compared with it | Provider |
| Reading the first-party reports | Recurring, monthly or quarterly | The calendar | Owner or provider |
| Re-asking a fixed list of buyer questions | Recurring, monthly | The calendar | Owner or provider |
| Earning reviews and third-party coverage | Recurring | Ongoing | Owner, with help |
| Paying for a tracking tool | Recurring, optional | Outgrowing the manual log | Owner |
One-off work: pay once and keep the result
Seven of the eleven rows above are one-off. They share a property that makes them good value: once done, they stay done until something on the site changes. Buy them as a project with a written list of what will be different at the end.
Recurring work: keep it small and on a calendar
The recurring rows are light. A monthly sitting with three reports and a short list of questions is an hour or two for a small site. Put it in the calendar, give it to one named person, and resist turning it into a retainer until the numbers call for one.
Which work is sold monthly but should not be?
Three things are often billed every month that a small site needs once: the access review, the structured data cleanup and the audit itself. A monthly fee for auditing a site that has not changed pays for a repeated report. Ask what would be different in month four from month one. If the answer is nothing, buy it once.
Want to know what your budget buys?Send the site and the amount. You get the one-off work we would do first, what we would leave out at that price, and a fixed quote.
How should affordable AEO be sequenced?
Start with whether assistants can reach and use the site, then make the facts consistent, then improve the pages that sell, then measure. Each step is cheaper than the next, and each can show that the next is unnecessary.
- Confirm access. Read robots.txt and any CDN or firewall bot settings against the crawler names each platform uses.
- Confirm eligibility in Google. Check that key pages are indexed and that the Search generative AI control includes the site.
- Fix the facts. Make name, address, phone, hours, prices and service descriptions agree on the site, the Business Profile and major listings.
- Improve the pages that sell. Put a direct answer, real detail and a current price or range on the few pages buyers land on.
- Record a baseline. Save today’s first-party reports and the answers to a fixed list of buyer questions.
- Review at three and six months. Decide whether to stop, hold at maintenance or expand.
First: can assistants reach and use the site?
Each platform names its crawlers, and the search crawlers are separate from any used for model training. ChatGPT search relies on a crawler called OAI-SearchBot; GPTBot is a different crawler that gathers training data, and the two are set independently in robots.txt. Perplexity uses PerplexityBot to surface and link sites in its results. Anthropic runs three: ClaudeBot for training, Claude-User for requests a person starts and Claude-SearchBot for search. Checking these names against your robots.txt is free, and our AI crawler access checker reads the file for you.
What does robots.txt not tell you?
Whether the request actually gets through. The standard behind robots.txt, RFC 9309, says its rules are not a form of access authorization, and a CDN or firewall can refuse a crawler that robots.txt allows. Cloudflare, for one, offers settings that block AI crawlers by category at the network edge, and a dashboard called AI Crawl Control that shows which AI services request a site. Perplexity advises sites behind a web application firewall to allow its published IP ranges. A sound provider checks the logs or the CDN dashboard, not just the file.
Second: is the site eligible in Google’s AI features?
Google’s requirement is short. To appear as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode, a page must be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet; there are no extra technical requirements. Inclusion is governed by the Search generative AI control under Settings in Search Console, which includes a site by default. A separate robots.txt token, Google-Extended, covers model training and grounding in the Gemini app and does not affect inclusion or ranking in Google Search. Confusing the two is an easy mistake to make, and an expensive one.
Third: do the facts about the business agree?
Assistants describe a business from what its site, its listings and third parties say. Where those disagree, the answer can hedge or repeat the wrong version. A claimed and verified Google Business Profile feeds Search and Maps, and Google’s guidelines for representing a business set the rules for names, addresses and categories. Bringing the facts into line is a one-off job, and for a single-location company it is a short one. Our Business Profile and NAP audit tool compares name, address and phone across listings.
Fourth: do the pages that sell answer the question?
On a small budget this means improving the five or so pages that bring in inquiries, not commissioning new ones. Say plainly what you do, for whom, where, at what price or range, and what happens next. Google’s advice is to publish content with first-hand detail that a generic summary could not supply, organized under headings that help a reader. It also says there is no need to break content into tiny pieces or rewrite it in a special style for AI. Our extractable content checker shows which headings on a page have no answer beneath them.
Fifth: measure before buying more
Record the baseline before changing anything further, then let a full reporting period pass. If the reports show assistants already citing your pages, the next dollar belongs elsewhere. If they show nothing after the fixes, the gap is probably corroboration or competition, and that is the moment to price recurring work.
What do the AI platforms require, and what does it cost?
The requirements the platforms set are free to meet: allow the right crawlers, be indexed, publish useful pages and keep business details accurate. Paid work is for doing those things well and quickly, not for unlocking a hidden channel.
This is the part of the market a small buyer can verify without trusting anyone. Each platform below publishes how it finds and uses web pages. Set against those requirements, many paid packages turn out to charge for things that are free, or for things the platform ignores.
| Platform | Control or report | What it does | Cost to you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google AI Overviews and AI Mode | Search generative AI control; generative AI performance report | Sets whether the site can appear in Search’s AI features, and shows impressions when it does | Free |
| ChatGPT search | OAI-SearchBot rule in robots.txt | Sites that opt out are not shown in ChatGPT search answers | Free |
| Perplexity | PerplexityBot rule in robots.txt; published IP ranges | Lets Perplexity surface and link the site in its results | Free |
| Claude | Claude-SearchBot and Claude-User rules in robots.txt | Blocking either can reduce visibility in Claude’s search and retrieval | Free |
| Microsoft Copilot and Bing | AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools | Shows where the site is cited in AI answers across Copilot, Bing and partner experiences | Free |
| Gemini app | Google-Extended rule in robots.txt | Controls use of crawled content for Gemini model training and grounding | Free |
| Apple Siri, Spotlight and Safari | Applebot and Applebot-Extended rules in robots.txt | Applebot powers search features; Applebot-Extended is the training opt-out | Free |
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode
Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet, and that the best practices for SEO remain relevant. Its guide lists what a site can ignore for Google Search: llms.txt files, chunking content, rewriting for AI, chasing inauthentic mentions and over-focusing on structured data. In June 2026 it added a note that llms.txt files neither help nor harm visibility in Google Search.
ChatGPT search
OpenAI recommends allowing OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt and allowing requests from its published IP ranges. Allowing GPTBot is a separate decision about training data. A provider who reports that it has unblocked GPTBot has not necessarily touched the setting that governs ChatGPT search, and a low-cost audit that stops at GPTBot has checked the wrong line.
Perplexity and Claude
Both publish their crawler names, and both distinguish a search crawler from requests made on behalf of a user. Perplexity states that PerplexityBot is not used to gather content for training foundation models. Anthropic’s bots honor robots.txt and support the Crawl-delay directive, which slows a crawler without shutting it out.
Microsoft Copilot and Bing
Microsoft’s AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools shows where a site’s content is cited in AI-generated answers across Microsoft Copilot, Bing and partner experiences. In 2026 it gained preview views for intents, topics, citation share and period comparison. The tool is free, so a small business gets this measurement without a subscription.
How do you tell a cheap-but-sound AEO offer from a worthless one?
A sound low-cost offer names a small scope, shows evidence for each finding and leaves you owning the result. A worthless one sells a promise, a file or a volume of pages. The price can be identical; the contents are not.
| What to look at | Cheap but sound | Cheap and worthless | How to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| The promise | Specific work on named pages | Guaranteed placement in ChatGPT or Google | Ask what the guarantee is based on |
| The first deliverable | Access, indexing and fact findings, with proof | An llms.txt file or a submission to AI engines | Ask which platform requires that step |
| Content | Improves the pages you already have | Hundreds of generated pages | Read three of them; ask who checked the facts |
| Schema | Markup that matches the visible page | FAQ rich results, or schema as the whole service | Ask what changes for a reader |
| Mentions and reviews | Earned from customers and real publications | Bought in bulk | Ask where each one comes from |
| Reporting | First-party reports plus a dated question log | A proprietary score with no method | Ask how the number is calculated |
| Access | Read-only for the audit; accounts in your name | Full control requested on day one | Check who owns each login |
| Contract | A fixed scope and a term explained by the work | A long lock-in at a low monthly price | Read the termination clause |
Five signs of a sound low-cost offer
- It states the hours or the fixed list of deliverables, so you can see what the fee buys.
- It checks access and indexing before it proposes any content.
- It can say which platform requirement each recommendation serves, or it labels the recommendation as opinion.
- It tells you what it will not do at this price.
- It leaves every account, document and baseline in your name.
Which low-priced AEO offers are worthless?
- Guaranteed citations. No outside party controls what an assistant writes, and Google says third-party services cannot guarantee performance.
- An llms.txt file sold as the service. The file is a proposal that some tools read; Google Search does not use it. If you want one anyway, our llms.txt generator makes it free.
- FAQ rich results. Google stopped showing the FAQ rich result in Search on May 7, 2026, so a package priced around it sells a display feature that no longer exists.
- Bulk AI-written pages. Google’s spam policies define scaled content abuse as generating many pages mainly to manipulate rankings, and Google has confirmed the policies cover generative AI responses.
- Purchased reviews or mentions. The FTC’s rule on consumer reviews and testimonials, 16 CFR Part 465, prohibits fake reviews and buying positive or negative ones.
- Schema-only packages. Google requires markup to describe content that is visible on the page, and says structured data is not required for its AI features. The Schema Markup Validator checks syntax for free.
- Tools or services described as approved by Google. Google does not evaluate or endorse third-party SEO services.
The claims test: what is that promise based on?
A provider’s marketing is advertising, and advertising claims need support. In September 2024 the Federal Trade Commission announced Operation AI Comply, a set of enforcement actions against companies using AI hype or AI tools deceptively, including one promoting a tool for generating fake reviews. The agency’s position was that there is no AI exemption from existing law. A buyer does not need to quote the FTC on a sales call. Asking what a claim is based on does the same job.
Google’s advice on hiring an SEO makes a matching point: check whether a provider’s AEO or GEO recommendations line up with Google’s published guidance, and treat unsolicited offers about search engines with skepticism. Our list of agency red flags covers the general warning signs.

How are results measured on a small budget?
Measure with the free first-party reports first, add a short manual question log, and pay for a tracker only when the manual method stops scaling. Report inquiries and sales alongside, because visibility that produces no business is not a result.
| Measure | Where it lives | What it tells you | What it cannot tell you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Impressions in Google’s AI features | Generative AI performance report in Search Console | How often links to your pages were shown in AI Overviews and AI Mode, by page, country, device and date | Whether the reader clicked for the reason you hoped |
| Citations in Microsoft surfaces | AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools | Where your content is cited across Copilot, Bing and partner experiences | Anything about ChatGPT or Gemini |
| Visits from assistants | AI Assistant channel in Google Analytics | Sessions arriving from sources such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot | Visits from AI Overviews and AI Mode, which the channel excludes |
| Named mentions | Your own question log | Whether you are named, and what is said, for a fixed list of questions | A stable position; answers vary between runs |
| Inquiries and sales | Your CRM or form records | Whether any of it produces business | Which assistant deserves the credit |
Which free reports show AI visibility?
Three. Google Search Console has a generative AI performance report that counts impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode. Bing Webmaster Tools has the AI Performance report for Copilot and Bing. Google Analytics groups visits from assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot into a default channel called AI Assistant. None needs a paid tool, and together they cover the Google and Microsoft side of the market from first-party data.
How do you keep a question log?
Write down ten to twenty questions a buyer would ask, in their words. Ask each one in the assistants your customers use, with identical wording each time, and save the full answers with the date. Our prompt builder drafts the list and gives you a sheet to record answers in, and the AI visibility checker reports whether you were named and who was named instead.
When does a paid tracker earn its fee?
When the list of questions, assistants or markets grows past what one person can re-run in an hour. Entry plans list from $20 a month (Rankscale.ai) and $49 a month (Hall). The AEO tools guide explains the classes of tool and the AI visibility tools comparison compares vendors. A tracker measures and does not fix, so it comes after the one-off work, never before it.
How much do affordable AEO services cost?
As planning ranges: $1,000 to $4,000 for a one-off AEO audit, $1,500 to $6,000 for strategy development and $1,500 to $5,000 a month for a small-business retainer. Entry tracking tools list from $20 to $49 a month. A quote follows a written scope.
The complete price list, with mid-market and enterprise retainers and project implementation, is on the AEO pricing page, and this page does not repeat it. What matters on a small budget is which line to buy and what pulls a quote toward the low end of its range.
What moves a quote toward the low end?
- A site whose main content is in the page’s HTML, with nothing to rebuild.
- Few page templates: a home page, a service page type, a location page type and a blog.
- One market and one language.
- A short list of buyer questions to track.
- Your own developer or web host making the technical changes.
- An existing SEO engagement that already covers crawling, indexing and site structure.
What pushes a quote up?
- Content that only appears after scripts run.
- Many templates, or several sites and subdomains.
- More than one country or language, each needing its own questions.
- Listings and profiles that contradict each other in many places.
- A provider doing every change because nobody on your side can.
Is it cheaper to add AEO to an SEO engagement?
Usually, because the foundation is shared. Google describes its AI features as rooted in its core Search ranking and quality systems, so crawling, indexing and page quality serve both. If you already buy SEO, ask that provider to price the AEO additions: the AI crawler review, the first-party AI reports and the question log. SEO packages and pricing lists the SEO tiers.
How long does a small-budget AEO project take?
The one-off work takes weeks, not months. What follows is slower and outside anyone’s control: assistants refresh what they retrieve and cite on their own schedules. Plan to review at three months and decide at six.
| Stage | When | What should exist at the end | Where to look |
|---|---|---|---|
| Access and eligibility | Week 1 | A written list of what was blocked or missing, and what was changed | Server or CDN logs, Search Console |
| Facts and listings | Weeks 2 to 3 | One agreed description of the business, applied to the site and main listings | The listings themselves |
| Pages that sell | Weeks 2 to 6 | Revised versions of the priority pages, live | The pages |
| Baseline | Week 4 | Saved reports and a dated question log | The saved files |
| First review | Month 3 | A comparison with the baseline and a short list of next fixes | First-party reports |
| Decision | Month 6 | A written recommendation to stop, maintain or expand | Reports, question log, inquiries |
Google puts two timings in writing. A change to the Search generative AI control generally takes a few days to take effect, and recrawling a changed page can take anywhere from several days to several months. The other platforms publish little about timing, which is why the plan above fixes review dates and does not promise outcome dates. How long AEO takes goes through the timeline in detail.
Low-cost AEO for local, ecommerce, B2B and regulated businesses
The sequence is the same for every business; the page types and the facts that matter differ. Local firms lean on listings, stores on product data, B2B firms on service and pricing pages, and regulated firms on claims they can substantiate.
Local service businesses
For a local firm the cheapest effective work is usually the Business Profile and reviews. Google says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show in local results, and that Business Profiles can help a business appear in AI responses as well as in the rest of Search. Local SEO services covers the listing work itself.
Online stores
Google points to Merchant Center feeds as a way for products to be visible in AI responses and elsewhere in Search. For a small store the affordable work is accurate product data, real detail on product pages and consistent shipping and return information.
B2B and professional services
Buyers ask assistants who provides a service, what it costs and how providers differ. The affordable work is one clear page for each thing you sell, a page with prices or planning ranges, and proof that a third party can confirm.
Health, finance and other regulated fields
Low-cost content shortcuts carry more risk where claims are regulated. The FTC’s Health Products Compliance Guidance says advertisers need adequate substantiation for objective claims before making them, and that health benefit claims generally call for competent and reliable scientific evidence. Google’s guidance on generative AI content says AI-drafted text must be fact-checked before it is published. We build pages inside those rules and leave legal review to your counsel. Nothing on this page is legal, medical or financial advice.
How does affordable AEO fit with affordable SEO?
They share a foundation, so buy them together or in sequence, not as rivals. SEO makes pages findable and trustworthy in search; AEO checks that assistants can use the same pages and measures whether they do.
Affordable SEO services sets out what each monthly SEO budget buys in hours and where that money should go, and this page leaves that subject to it. The overlap is real: AEO vs SEO lists what transfers. If the site has no SEO foundation yet, start there. Small business SEO and choosing an SEO company for a small business cover that purchase.
| Task | Covered by SEO | Added for AEO |
|---|---|---|
| Crawling and indexing | Googlebot and Bingbot access, sitemaps, errors | The AI crawlers by name, CDN bot rules, the Search generative AI control |
| Page content | Titles, headings, relevance, internal links | A direct answer on each page that sells, with prices or ranges |
| Structured data | Valid markup for eligible rich results | A check that markup and visible copy say the same thing |
| Business listings | Business Profile and citations for local ranking | One consistent description wherever assistants read about you |
| Reporting | Rankings, clicks and organic inquiries | AI impressions, AI citations, assistant visits and the question log |
Prefer to start with the free checks?Run the crawler access checker and the AI visibility checker on this site, then send us what they show.
How do you choose an affordable AEO provider?
Choose on scope, evidence and exit terms, in that order. At a low price the risk is not that the work is slow. It is that nothing real is done.
| Requirement | How to check it |
|---|---|
| A written scope with hours or fixed deliverables | Read the proposal and ask what is excluded at this price |
| Access and indexing checked before content is proposed | Ask what they would look at in the first week |
| Recommendations tied to a platform requirement | Ask which requirement two of their recommendations serve |
| Read-only access for the audit | Google’s hiring advice is to grant read access to Search Console at this stage, not write access |
| Measurement you can reproduce | Ask for the list of questions and where the saved answers will live |
| Accounts, documents and baselines in your name | Check the owner on Search Console, Analytics and any tool |
| A term explained by the work, and a plain exit | Read the notice period and the list of what transfers |
| No guarantee of citations or rankings | Read the sales page and the contract for promises |
| References you can call | Ask for two clients of a similar size |
What should you ask before signing?
- What exactly will be different on my site and listings at the end?
- How many hours, or which fixed deliverables, does the fee cover?
- Which crawler and CDN settings will you check, and how will you show me the result?
- Which of my pages will you change, and who writes the changes?
- Which reports will you use, and can I open them myself?
- What will you record before you change anything?
- What will you not do at this price?
- Who owns the accounts, documents and saved answers?
- What is the notice period, and what do I receive when it ends?
- Under what findings would you tell me to stop spending?
For the wider selection process, how to choose an AEO agency covers vetting firms and AEO experts covers the skills to test. What a marketing contract should say and retainer or project help with the paperwork.
What does Progression Agency include in an affordable AEO engagement?
A fixed list: an access and indexing review, a facts cleanup, revisions to the pages that sell, a dated baseline and a review schedule. The scope is written before the price, and every account stays in your name.
Progression Agency is a New York City marketing agency working with clients across the United States and worldwide. A small-budget AEO engagement with us starts with the one-off work and adds recurring work only when the reports justify it. Where we already handle a client’s SEO, the AEO checks are folded into that work so nothing is done twice.
What is in the scope?
- A review of robots.txt, CDN and firewall bot settings against the AI crawlers by name.
- A check of indexing, snippet eligibility and the Search generative AI control.
- A comparison of how the business is described on the site, the Business Profile and main listings, with corrections.
- Revisions to an agreed number of pages that sell.
- A structured data check against the visible copy.
- A dated baseline: saved first-party reports and a question log.
